This post is going to be a mix-match pile of stuff methinks.

First off, my boyfriend is really awesome. I,m glad I have him around. He'll be doing all the coloring and shading for "Namesake" until i'm done with "Jabberwocky". This helps a lot. It's a good 6 hours of work I don't have to do every week. Yay! Plus i'm not very good at it so...

I found an amusing drawing on the internet showing how to create an icecream cake. I want to make this so bad. As soon as I have more free time, you bet this is happening! (Original art by the French Toast Girl). I love ice cream cakes. This one is like... custom. I should use soft sunday ice cream though. And maybe mix the cookie crumbs directly in it.... YUM.

For a lactose intolerant girl, I sure like eating them forbidden things.

Oh, and awesomeness - The studio behind the Gorgeous film "Secret of Kells" is working on a new movie called "The song of the sea". This movie seems inspired by fairy tales such as the "Mermaid Wife" or "The Seal woman". It's fairy tales similar to the "Feather dress" in the sense that it is about a fantastic being that sues a piece of cloth to change fro her magical form to a human form and that she is bound to a man who hides the cloth. Sometimes, the wife is truly in love. Other times, she is a prisoner. This type of tales are amazing, and i'm sure this animated film will be as well. I can't wait.

Click here to watch the teaser trailer. Yes. You want to.

On this side, Jabberwocky is going well. Only 10 or so pages left, if I include all the extra drawings. Heck yeah.

As soon as Jabberwocky is done, I have a few commissions to work on (mostly, wedding invites for a few people). Then some storyboard work and some more comic work... I'm really busy but I love it. Though, as soon as Jabberwocky is over, i'll be able to put a bit more of my free time on the social side. The other projects aren't quite as insane.

Drawing is awesome.

I'm a bit of a grump, so I spend most of the weekend off the computer being surly. But I think i'm back to normal now.

Not much to say today...

I'm trying to decide how to work with Psychopopmes. Should I make thumbnails of all the pages so I know how many I need to draw? Or should I just work on a page-per-page basis and see what it gives at the end? I think I may pick the first since I need to get these done for May. I'm sure that's least 60 pages of work waiting... Hopefully, i'll manage. O_O I asked my boss if I could take my vacation days in March instead of you know... July. So I could work. I don't have anything to do in July, after all.

I spent the whole morning talking to pretty much everybody about cupcakes. About recipes, cupcake shops in Montréal, and about making "Tangled" themed cupcakes with different flvors and designs (Rapunzel is citrus, Flynn is dark chocolate and Mother Gothel? Dark cherry.) I'm super obsessed by cupcakes. I'm suppose to bake some with friends on Thursday. Looks like this is a good idea.

CUPCAAAKES!

It's a miracle i'm not fat. Really.

Oh hey, have some "How to Train Your Dragon" fanart. Mainly, it's Astrid and Toothless protecting Hiccup. apparently in the snow. Astrid seems to have lost her braid in the heat of action.

That's alll fooooorrrrr noooooooowww!

Tasty, tasty foot! I'm sorry for busting your bubble Lydia! But I got you cake, and will probably get you cake for the next 9 months, so we are even. *laughs*

Nothing teaches you how much kids can be devious tricksters like working in daycare. But them being that way doesn't mean they are nasty kids. Kids like to test the limits of what they can do. And being slightly devious is the way to do it. So it's nothing personal. It's trial and error and life and all. Plus, it's really, REALLY fun, but when they start trying to trick you, you get to mess with THEM. And otusmarting a large group of 8-year olds is harder then it sounds.

Kids have their own personal logic.

Got a new coworker today - a girl who makes jewelry. Kinda makes me think that I still want to learn to make jewelry. Mostly, i'd like to try Resin jewels. Because, it's basically a metal back, a drawing and a "plastic/glass-like" top. That way I could make necklaces with my tiny vampires! And other stuff. New girl tells me the Montreal Jewelry School offers one-day classes in various thing.  I should do that. It would be a welcome change of pace from drawing. Plus, useful skills! For resin jewelry, there's a thousand tutorials online. So i'm good for that.

Also, I think I actually like the Tinkerbell movies now. *facepalms* I'm such a Disney Dupe. Ensnare me with your pretty, pretty animated charms will you, Disney? I guess i,ll have some movies to add to my collection. Boy kids are really loving my apartment. Toys and movies and fairy tale books galore.

I wish I had a muffin right now. Chocolate and cinnamon. And cherry. Have you guys ever tasted a mix of those three things? It sounds delicious.

Yay, McIntosh season! The delicious red-and-green kind. Not the white technological kind.

I'm addicted to McIntosh apples. Whenever the season rolls in, Isa is all like "Om nom nom appples apples apples pie apples"
Unfortunately for me, I have a wound in my mouth is seems. I'm not sure what it is. It's rather painful and looks like a zit, but on the gums. According to Link, it's really common. I've never had something like that, but he seems to have gotten a lot. He told me to rince my mouth with salt water 4 or so times a day. When I first did that, it hurted like hell, but now the pain is going down, so I guess it's working. Or my jaw is being zombified.

So yeah. Put a little damper in my entousiasm since apple acid + mouth wound = ouchies. Still, APPLES. Yaaaaay. *Is excited for the silliest things*

In other news, Terry Pratchet rocks my socks. He's channelling his inner-Sokka by getting himself a shiny meteorite sword.
Pratchet, stop making me jealous of not being you.

Finally, about NSFW (Not safe for work - aka sexy - art) :

[livejournal.com profile] torreadora  is an amazing artist (some of you may know her from bri_chan's Alice/Hatter fame). She took down a few more risqué pieces of artwork from her deviant art because she was tired of the rude commentaries. This kinda makes me angry. Her art is beautiful, and no more "offensive" then a lot of other stuff i've seen on that website (Heck, i've seen "stock photos" that were basically porn and Yaoi images that were in about the same poses!!).

Another friend of mine had posted a while back a really beautiful "How to Train your Dragon" fanart. The fanart showed Hiccup and Astrid nuzzling (as in "rubbing noses") while being partially covered by a fur-carpet-thing. It was implied pretty clearly that the characters were in the nude. But it was not sexualized. It was a really soft and cute piece. The art piece got tagged as offensive by a few deviants and eventually the friend was banned.

It's weird. That friend, and torreadora, seem to be getting this not because of the contente itself, but because they are using copyrighted characters (Disney and Dreamworks).  As much as I get that some people may find their childhood menaced by this, the work of both these artists was far from tasteless. The art itself was gorgeous, and even the very sexualized pieces had a feel of "nice" and "loving" and were drawn in good taste. I've seen artwork on deviant art showing the same characters in more "depraved" settings (read : rape art) and nobody says a thing.  I think these two artist were aimed at because of the quality of the drawing. They have proportions and expressions down to a t. It looked realistic and was therefore menacing, Or something. I don't even know.

This kinda just confirms something i've always disliked about Deviant art. Don't use it to determine your quality as an artist.
A lot of bad artists get a lot of favorites and a lot of good art gets pinned as awful or ignored. I say there's nothing bad about something a bit risqué, especially when it's done in good taste. When you can truly feel the love poured in the work and the love between the characters.

[livejournal.com profile] torreadora , please ignore the silly people. You rock my socks too. Just like Terry Pratchet. You make me want to draw characters in corsets.
