Yesterday evening was pretty cool. There's a firework every Wednesday and Saturday night here in Montreal for the next 2 weeks or so.  It's an international contest. Yesterday was the USA and their theme was, you guessed it, the Wizard of Oz. You had to tune in to a radio to hear the music that went with the show (mostly, tunes from the MGM musical movie). It was really cute! Lots of big explosions. I was really impressed by the swirly-shaped and heart-shaped fireworks for the Scarecrow and Tin Man. And of course, the Emerald City segment was all green and gold.I look forward to the other shows!

Today is pretty busy too. I had some people to meet in the morning and i'm hanging out with folks tonight too. Whew! Running around in the big, big heat.

Here's a finished print! The theme is obviously Tim Burton. I basically took couples/duos and tried to associate them all to a season. Jack and Sally got the fall because even though Nightmare before christmas is kinda a Christmas movie, these guys are residents of Halloween town. Edward Scissorhands gets the winter spot, for having poetic snow drops. Alice and the cheshire cat get to frolic in spring because of all the beautiful green in the Alice movie. Finally, Lydia and Beetlejuice get summer, because Beetlejuice always felt like a summer movie to me. Everything looks warm and it kinda starts with people dying on their vacation.

Told you guys I would draw one!

I know the books kinda explain a bit more why Harry follows the creepy historian and the light, but jeesus, the movie makes it seem like his idea is less logical and he's got an unhealthy obsession with the "follow the leader" game. I mean, if Ron suddenly re-appeared with no warning, despite him saving my ass from freezing water I would you know... CHECK if it was REALLY HIM. Voldemort didn't order people to kill Harry after all, just bring him back. You'd think, as a former brewer of Polyjuice potion he'd be an itty bitty more careful.

Regardless... Good movie. I just like how movie!Harry is 100% more reckless then book!Harry, who already kinda was.

In other news, there's a Tim Burton exhibit going around in Canada that includes multiple drawings. Some are from old Disney projects (Black Cauldron concept art?), others for his main films... others are just crazy ideas. It's currently open at the TIFF Lightbox Gallery in Toronto. Those who can, please go for me! :D I really like the sample drawings i've seen :

Burton also seems to be riding on a strange project, allied with Montréal filmmakers, he seems to be trying to piece together a movie from... twitter suggestions! Burton suggested a premise and other people are adding to the story. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Burton. But i,m a little puzzled by his latest movies. And also by him using the same idea that generated the dreaded "Snakes on a plane" (Yes, the movie's scenario was built from internet suggestions). So I wonder where he's going with that.

I have a strange love/hate relationship with Burton's work. I adore some of his work and am truly puzzled by others. I don't know if the guy is just out of ideas, or if he just likes different types of ideas, or if he's just doing it for the fame and fortune. Not to mention, the more I read about the works I DO like, the more I realize many of the ideas poured into the work are not directly from him per say, but from his team. It's odd. But i'm kinda glad his drawings are being exhibited. That's one thing that will never change with him - he's definitely a visual master. When he comes to visuals and colors, he's very creative.

However, I gotta say, I hate how Hot Topic decided to make a whole bunch of mechandise with Tim Burton stuff on it. Yeah, it fits the perky goth subculture, but something hurts the goth in me when I see kids dressing as vampires with alice in Wonderland t-shirts. Gah.

 Halloween is in three dayyyyys!

Have a tiny piece of nightmare before x-mas.

I'm not doing anything on Halloween on account of me still being weak-ish. But I think i'll watch a lot of movies. Including this one. And do art.

Because apparently, drawing is my life. *laughs* I had a fun conversation with my good friend Fauve who spent a good 20 minutes just looking at art and being amazed by how much better i've gotten over the past year. Practice makes perfect? I'm not the world's greatest artist, but I do have a nice steady learning curve I greatly appreciate.

In other news, grapefruit juice is underrated. I love the stuff. especially for winter vitamins. Yummers.

ps. Might dress as a witch tomorrow. MWAHAHAHAHA

Little drawing I did for the "Picture yourself in Wonderland" contest on deviant art. You're suppose to draw yourself as a character.

I could not decide if I wanted to be Alice or the Hatter, so I decided to be both. Kinda how in the "Wizard of Oz" movie, everyone had a "Oz" and a "normal" version, i'm half-Alice, half-hatter, depending on how much wits or craziness a situation requires.

The hat is the rabbit hole.

I figured I might as well try for the contest since a) I love contests and b) prizes are cool. I might not win, but it's worth a shot!

I'm pretty much down my "silly drawings for the week" phase. Next up, actual comic pages and commissions. I've been falling behind. Bad, bad Isa.

Oh, I got the "Art of Avatar - the last airbender" in the mail today. I was hoping for more Toph art, and more "fun art that animators did for laughs" but I still love the book. You can really see how the project evolved. It's quite awesome. Makes me want to watch episodes.

I also got my slayers DvDs. I want to watch that too. Oh, decisions!

Yeah, I made you all want to see <9> didn't I? I just bought it.

I'm a weird person, there's three really silly things in life that terrify me. I mean, I have normal, serious fears, like everyone. But I also have 3 really dumb, illogical ones. Ghosts are one of them. They really scare me. I mean, i'm a whimpering coward crying in a corner with only the mention of ghosts. The second one is buzzing, flying bugs. Don't ask me why. But my friends are amused at seeing me freak out from having a dragonfly zoom past me. The last thing is toys and plushies getting destroyed, pulled apart, burned, generally maimed. I have no idea why.

When I was a kid, I though toys were alive (...damn you, Toy Story!) so the idea of one getting damaged terrified me. I was afraid that a mean toy would get his revenge. And I was worried that a kind toy would be in pain, screaming silently on the inside. Yeah, I was a freaky kid. When I saw toys in the street, lost, I always picked them up and put them in a less "dangerous" place (on a bench, under a roof so it doesn't rain on them, etc). Lost toys make me sad. Destroyed toys freak me out (again, remember how this is not a logical fear).

So yeah, that scene in Toy story where "reconstructed" zombie toys come out from under a bed is pure nightmare fuel for me.

<9> seems to be in that scary zone too. It's kinda like the Matrix had a child with Little Big Planet and the child was raised by Tim Burton. So there's violence made to plushies. Damn cute, voodoo looking stitch plushies. And yeah, most of them died and a lot get ripped in this movie. I want to see this movie because, dammit, it's Tim Burton and it looks cool. But I think i'm gonna wait until Link gets here before watching it...

For those wondering, the scene I saw was the death of Number "5". Brrrrr.

You guys must have so illogical fears too.

Some people can juggle work and university and stuff quite fine. Well...well enough anyways. None of them really look that rested and/or have grades of doom. I personally don't think i'm one of them. I figured i'd try; I tried doing september in full with a job, and internship and school. I figured i'd have just enough time to do homework in between and all would be well. I forgot to include in the equation the fact that there would be team work, fundraising events, organizing the final year exhibit and you know...me wanting to live a little in that. I also somewhat forgot to include in my equation travelling; those buses eat up your time. Seriously, if you plan to lead a full life try to find an appartment close to job & school. Buses will suck your energy dead.

To resume it: I don't think I can keep going like this.

I don't want my last year at the U, and in this area, to be as boring and work-full as the rest. I mean...I've pretty much been miss anonymous student all my life. I'd like to be able to take a bit advantage of student life before it's truly over. And by that I don't just mean suck on a keg's tube. I mean, go to the librairy, read, use the U gym, visit some friends, etc.

So, I decided to take a break from my job. My actual paying job at Tim Hortons. The internship is not paid, but it's mandatory for me to graduate. I technically don't need the job. My school is paid, my bus cards are paid, most of my art material should be paid. My money is basically me getting money to go out and buy books. Which is completly absurd since I don't have time to read or go anywhere anymore. So I figured work was the easiest thing to boot off the list. I asked my boss if I could take a break till January, when my internship will end. Then, I can work and not die from having two jobs. It's not many hours back, only 8 to 16, but it's still a whole one or two days i'm getting back to dedicate to my art.

So woo. I have two shifts left and i'm officially out of Timmies for a few months.

I feel kindoff guilty about doing this since I have friends who are stuck working long hours because they have no choice. I feel that if they can and have to do it, I should too. Then Link pretty much hit me upside the head (methaphorically) and told me it was stupid for me to turn down an advantage just because I could have it and others could not. Sure it's not fair. Life is not fair. And when life tosses a break at you, you take it because god knows next time it won't. So I took the break, the easy path. If anything, I'll use that extra time to help others who can't take it. And draw comics of course. And make better projects for my finals.

*sssssiiigh*

I kinda feel relief. No matter how easy this job is, it's still a pretty stressful environnement (all that "go" "go" "quick" "quick" "nownownow") and i'm glad that's off my stress-o-meter. Now I can fully worry about what the hell i'm doing for art.

Yes, finally, a finished drawing! Lately i've been on OST and Soundtrack buzz. I bought the Edward scissorhands album and the Moulin rouge album (i've never seen Moulin Rouge, but i've had a friend that was nuts about it and made me enjoy the album on repeat.) I've also been lisening to Slayers and FLCL ost. I really love all this music! O_O Especially Edward Scissorhands right now, mainly the Introduction, Death and Ice Dance tracks (speaking of which, the ice dance scene is so freakin gorgeous)

I just had to draw Edward then. Not to mention he's such a talented hairstylist. My hair needs a trim and a re-dye (all my pink hair is gone and is now orange with beginnings of black.) So, go Edward, Do a good job!

On another note, don't you hate waiting for a sign of life from someone and not really wanting to email or call them because you fear of bothering them but the fact that they don't speak to you is driving you nuts? I know I do. God, I so do! >_<

And if any of you people have any good OST or Soundtrack suggestions, let's hear them! I've been looking for new ones to buy...
