 Some people can juggle work and university and stuff quite fine. Well...well enough anyways. None of them really look that rested and/or have grades of doom. I personally don't think i'm one of them. I figured i'd try; I tried doing september in full with a job, and internship and school. I figured i'd have just enough time to do homework in between and all would be well. I forgot to include in the equation the fact that there would be team work, fundraising events, organizing the final year exhibit and you know...me wanting to live a little in that. I also somewhat forgot to include in my equation travelling; those buses eat up your time. Seriously, if you plan to lead a full life try to find an appartment close to job & school. Buses will suck your energy dead. 

To resume it: I don't think I can keep going like this.

I don't want my last year at the U, and in this area, to be as boring and work-full as the rest. I mean...I've pretty much been miss anonymous student all my life. I'd like to be able to take a bit advantage of student life before it's truly over. And by that I don't just mean suck on a keg's tube. I mean, go to the librairy, read, use the U gym, visit some friends, etc.

So, I decided to take a break from my job. My actual paying job at Tim Hortons. The internship is not paid, but it's mandatory for me to graduate. I technically don't need the job. My school is paid, my bus cards are paid, most of my art material should be paid. My money is basically me getting money to go out and buy books. Which is completly absurd since I don't have time to read or go anywhere anymore. So I figured work was the easiest thing to boot off the list. I asked my boss if I could take a break till January, when my internship will end. Then, I can work and not die from having two jobs. It's not many hours back, only 8 to 16, but it's still a whole one or two days i'm getting back to dedicate to my art. 

So woo. I have two shifts left and i'm officially out of Timmies for a few months.

I feel kindoff guilty about doing this since I have friends who are stuck working long hours because they have no choice. I feel that if they can and have to do it, I should too. Then Link pretty much hit me upside the head (methaphorically) and told me it was stupid for me to turn down an advantage just because I could have it and others could not. Sure it's not fair. Life is not fair. And when life tosses a break at you, you take it because god knows next time it won't. So I took the break, the easy path. If anything, I'll use that extra time to help others who can't take it. And draw comics of course. And make better projects for my finals.

I kinda feel relief. No matter how easy this job is, it's still a pretty stressful environnement (all that "go" "go" "quick" "quick" "nownownow") and i'm glad that's off my stress-o-meter. Now I can fully worry about what the hell i'm doing for art.

And you didn't mention that the Tims was only giving you night shifts (as in midnight to 7h00 in the morning) which where badly screwing up your sleep patterns. Don't deny it!!!!

Nothing wrong with taking advantage of your situation. If I were like the typical student here, I'd be working while going to school (thus slacking more in classes than I already do), but I don't have to and I like having time to relax between classes...and plot and sew. Sanity returns!

I agree with the others. I think you're making the right choice for yourself. There's nothing wrong with making your life a bit easier, especially when it's only wearing you out. Giving yourself a break is always a good thing.

I kindoof tried something new too. I have a tendacy to never do my art homework on weekends, or do it at the end of all the rest because I see it as fun. Well, I tried putting it up front. So most of my management class homework is not done on this sunday night, but I feel more motivated and my art teacher will most likely love me more.

Ben moi, je suis contente pour toi. Si tu considères ne pas avoir besoin de te job, et qu'elle ne t'apporte rien de particulier à part l'argent pour des loisirs, c'est bien de prendre un pause! Et Pascal a entièrement raison. C'est pas parce que c'est aps tout le monde qui peut se permettre de ne pas travailler que tu devrais travailler... Si tu as le choix entre être hyper méga work-a-holic ou pas, ben justement, tu as le choix, donc si tu ne veux pas, ne le fais pas. Um.... je suis hyper mega work-a-holic par choix...
Bon, je parle (écris) pour rien dire. Moi, je ocnsidère que ton stage est mieux que le Tim aprce que 1- il est obligatoire pour que tu gradus, 2- ça parrait mieux sur ton cv quand tu chercheras une job plus tard et 3- c'est sûrement plus fun et moins stressant.
Et c'est vrai qu'une job comme le Tim, c'est vraimetn trop stressant. Le service à la clientèle est vraiment le pire genre de job qu'on peut avoir...

Ah oui, aussi, si tu veux participer au magazine à ma soeur, maintenant que tu as du temps libre, elle prends des bd jusqu'au mois de décembre...

Et pour ce qui est du temps libre pour lire, tu devrais faire comme moi et lire dans l'autobus. Tu lirais vraiment beaucoup, surtout considérant que tu prends genre 2h d'autobus par jour...

C'est vrai que Tim est un peu stressant, mais c'est quand même pas terrible. Y il a des avantages. la proximité par exemple. Et aussi, les shift de soir sont vraiment le fun.

Mais bon, je préfère prendre ça cool, au moins jusqu'en janvier.

J'ai un peu de misère à lire dans le bus. J'y suis souvent dans l'heure de pointe, c'est pas évident.

Est-ce qu'il y aurait un lien internet pour le livre de ta soeur? Histoire que je me rafraichit la mémoire?

There's the old parental cliche their kids hate to hear, "If everyone jumps off a cliff, should you do it, too?" You're not being weak by quitting your job; you're maturely putting your priorities in the right place. And especially if you would be stuck with the "graveyard shift" at work! That's brutal mentally and physically. Less stress->better school work->better opportunities after school.

considering I spent most of my life not jumping off the bridge as others did it...

Graveyard shifts are a bit hard, but I like working alone, so sometimes I welcome them. There's a few people over there with the annoyance power of a demented bird.
