A little bonus for all the Namesake fans (especially those who participated to the Kickstarter for the printed version of volume one). This is a “work-in-progress” of the downloadable character art reward. It’s FAR from being finished (no lighting, shadowing or swaaaaaaag), but it’s complete enough to get people to see what it’s about. Basically, one of the Kickstarter rewards was character art. Said character art was originally going to be sexier pin-ups of the main 8, but me and Megan decided otherwise at the last minute because of Kickstarter’s rules. So instead, I designed character art based on the ideas of Tarot cards.

I really love this idea. It allows me to put a lot of symbolism in.

Emma is the world, or the "nameless card". Needless to say, it links to her role in the plot.

More cards under the cut! )

In other news, woah holy crap today was weird at work. People were SO rude. I'm thinking it's because it's the end of March break and parents are tired of having their kids around or something, because WOW. I was never treated so mercilessly by clients in my life (at this job anyways). People were just... urgh. Rude. And there was a bunch of parents letting their kids run around unsupervised, I had to tell a few of them to stop running (sternly too, because I told them twice), had to take books away because kids got into the adult section, etc, etc. And while i'm babysitting, and not actually doing my job, the parents were walking around, chatting on their cell phone. Loudly. I tried to get a few to, oh, I don't know, look after their damn kids, but all I got was blank stares. One of our nicer regulars (she comes by for a veeeery large comic pile every 2 months) said it best : "These parents are assholes."

So yeah.

At least yesterday night rocked. Me and a few friends did a great Card Captor Sakura Marathon. The show is still adorable, the food was excellent and our added commentary was hilarious. It's bound to happen again soon - there's 52 episdoes and 2 movies to see!

Moreso...

A couple of days ago, I tried to see if I could get a ticket to a midnight showing of the new Harry Potter, since I had a day off the next day. It seems like an experience that would be fun to go thru. Unfortunately, everything is sold out. Oh well.

Tomorrow I get to work on convention fanart prints. :D Wonderwoman and Avatar is on the planning. :D

I'm kinda proud of myself. today at work, I re-organized the american comic and the European fantasy comics section. The fantasy one, I just placed things nicely and made sure there wasn't too many doubles. In the american section, I classified everything alphabetically by title. It used to be classified alphabetically by editor and then by title, but it made things a bit difficult to find, since editors for the French versions of american comics are a bit more complicated then the original English version. For instance, Marvel comics are handled by two French editors at the moment. It's all nice now. People at work seem to be taking my suggestions. It's cool. It's like wow, finally, validation. I also built a fairy-tale themed display window with fairy tale inspired comics and some drawings all over. It looks pretty!

I'm a little sick-ish again. Everyone in the comic department got the flue last week and it seems to be hovering around me. Bleh. I also need to buy better shoes. My current ones are a little run down. There's holes and it hurts when I stand too long.

In other good news, Namesake got one heck of a glowing review. Check it here

Have some Alice to celebrate.

First off... Another tiny mermaid! Just for you, [livejournal.com profile] torreadora !

Jabberwocky : Those of you who have ordered them, they will be sent out on Wednesday. Currently, in Canada, we have a bit of a Canda Post strike. I'll try to get the books mailed ASAP, but it might take them a day or two longer to reach you. Sorry about that, guys!

Job stuff : So in the following two weeks, I will most likely be working at two different jobs. If I seem a bit absent or busy, that's why. Transitions take time and effort that way! But are totally worth it!

Fanexpo : As some of you may know (if you read [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny 's LJ too), we'll have a Namesake and print table at Fanexpo in Toronto at the end of August. I'm currently working on creating a lot of prints :D Again, hard work, but worth it! I'll try to have my comic books too. And possibly a plushy surprise with the help of my brother. So far, i'm thinking of having fanart prints of Avatar, Doctor who and Wonder woman. I,ll be sure to have some original stuff too.

Reading : So... I kinda wasted a little a lot of time this week reading comics. I went retro this week and re-read "Sailor Moon" and "Please Save my Earth". Oddly enough, both series are oldies about moon people reincarnating on earth with ESP and magical powers thrown in. Guess it was a theme for the time. I still love both, even though the sheer dysfunctional aspect of the relationships in "Please save my earth" is just ridiculous. I also got my hands on Vera Brosgol's "Anya's ghost". It's quite awesome.  A really good comic to recommend to people (i'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] ichiban_victory )

I mean, just check out this awesome art. The story is quite interesting and creepy too. Good stuff, good stuff.

Finally : I have strange obsessions, things that make people roll their eyes at me. One of them is to have the perfect agenda. My perfect agenda is part weekly planner, part calendar, part notebook, part sketchbook. I've looked for this for a long time, probably because it doesn't exist. BUT, I recently found a couple of websites where you can build your own. I'm thinking this is going to be my last big expense before I switch jobs. My future shifts will probably be a little all over the place, so it's a good idea to have the perfect book to keep tabs on things, amiright?

I'm back!

Hello again, people! I've been away from my house (and my computer) for about 4 days now. Took me a while to catch up on my f-list and webcomics! Haha! I went to visit my family in Ottawa and then Québec city. It was mostly fun. A bit of oddness on my father's side of the family, but generally, I had fun. And it was a nice drawing/computer/stressing about my life break. I did a few non-serious doodles like this one :

It kinda gave me an idea for a new type of painting I want to do. My watercolors used to be isolated fairy tale themes in large negative spaces. I kinda want to try to do pieces where the whole space is filled with motifs. Complicated, color and ink motifs. Yeah, that's going to rock!

For Christmas, my parents gave me a red wii (by the by, wii players on my f-list, I need game suggestions), some comics, a few movies and some clothing. Not to mention an EPIC jewelry box. It's huge! And some red pajama bottoms to replace my old purple ones that are beginning to look old (I wear those on weekends. Yes, i'm an artist with no class, but my butt is comfortable!) Awwww. I suspect my mom was reading thru my lj for ideas. Sneaky mom. Real sneaky. I approve.

And now i'm back home. With some homemade food, opened presents and good news. My new glasses came in, so I can go pick them up tomorrow. Finally. Comfort for my brain! My brain will be as happy as my butt!

Link got good news too. He didn't follow me in my yule time traveling because he got himself a second interview for a job as a game designer. And pretty much all he as to do to get the job is to create a document to show his capacities. According to him, the document pretty much wrote itself, so he's pretty positive about the whole thing! I'm hoping he'll get the job. Go boyfriend, go!

Time for sleep now methinks. I barely slept all week. And I ate so much. I think i'm still digesting stuff from the first day.

Fat, happy isa needs sleep.

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr *falls asleep*

Mythology jokes will never die. Hilarious forever!

This one plays with the myth of Leda, who got to do it with Zeus in Swan-format, and also a little stab at poor Cassandra.

News wise. Well, I seem to be not sick anymore! But Link is. Tomorrow, i'm doing a late shift (noon to 8h30). Wednesday I plan to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] starmetal_oak ! :D I'm having a bit of trouble juggling seeing people. I want to have a nice social life, but drawing is so time consuming!

In Namesake news, the Launch date is fully set. October 5th is the day. Unless I break my arm or something horrifying happens. A few beta readers helped me and [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny  build a strong story and website... I really hope you guys like it! I'm excited and mortified at the same time!

A few of you might remember me talking about being dissatisfied at work. mostly because tech support felt a bit like a dead end for me. I tried looking around a bit and failed some interviews. I ended up talking to my boss and engaging plan "B". Plan "B" being, instead of leaving a job, discuss it and see if it's possible to move on up. Well, I got my annual evaluation today. People at my job like me. I earned some extra money as a bonus, which is nice, and also managed to get more responsibilities, mostly with marketing rather then tech support. So, good news for me. I can rest easy and not worry so much about jobstuff for now. I'm willing to give these new responsibilities the old college try. In part because this job has a lot of nice things (I like the people and the flexibility) and also because I despise looking for work and starting new jobs. Hey, stress away from work is stress I can invest in my art life instead. Wee.

In any case. Time for bed. :D

Isa doing good.
