Oh my god, i'm still alive!

As most of you know, I spent a weekend and a day in Toronto to visit friends and attend Anime North 2009. That weekend was fabulous. It's a shame that upon my return my boss would unleash 13 hour days (I kid you not) on me. As a result i'm kinda tired, have not yet unpacked and had no time to draw a con recon. :(

But enough with the bitchin'

It was great to see my friends [livejournal.com profile] zenavvy , [profile] earthstar_chan  and [livejournal.com profile] gullwhacker . I wasn't able to find free time to see [livejournal.com profile] neshel , which made me sad. The stories of our aventures are hilarious though. I looted plenty of anime boxsets. Strange, now that I am reading less manga, I seem to be watching my anime then ever! I also got Gargoyles as a b-day present from the gang. Not knowing was Gargoyles WAS, I responded to receiving the boxset by saying *I don't like furries.*

Johanne responded fairly quickly that this was la creme de la creme of tv animation and that I had to watch it. Link also geeked over upon seeing the said boxset when he joined us in Toronto. Looks like the present is indirectly a present for him too *laughs*

Aside from the boxset loot, I was also able to score a zel keychain, an awesome leather classy packman themed bracelet (CLASSY!), a mini top hat (to match Link's con wear - a larger top hat), some plushies and of course the body smell of a massive amount of people (eek). With the gang, I had a ton of fun watching Dragonball Abridged, attempting to steal Zen's heart (much in the way of Crow!Mytho in the Anime Princess tutu. God, I love crows!), assaulting Toronto and making up a funny version of a Slayers play. Yes, it's an idea loosely based on the Avatar episode on Ember Island. Naga, back to her old self, and remembering the stories that Amelia told her of the Slayer's adventures while she was Nama, decides to sell the story to some theatre troupe for money and the opportunity of humiliating Lina Inverse. Lina was already the theme of a play in season one, but this play would have everybody in it. It would basically be Naga's version of Amelia's version of the facts, and it would be damn ridiculous. And of course, Zel would get a musical number containing as many rock puns as humanly possible.

I really think this is my last con. I'm getting to old and i'm definitly more motivated to see my friends rather then attend the actual con. So we though next year we should do like they do in the webcomic Something Positive: We should hold our own personal mini-con complete with watching of series, video games, D&D and generally drawing at somebody's home somewhere in North america. That way, we can still all cross the country to meet.

In the way of cosplays, there was a few interesting ones. One of the recurring ones was these two cheshire cats and their wonderland crew. Eventually, I was hoping it was a new wonderland themed anime! So I asked one of the cosplayers where it was from. Apparently, it's from a special episode of Ouran Host Club. Darn! No alice Anime. Oh well, if anything, this will encourage me to watch Ouran.

Don't forget to ride your chocobo...

That's all for now. I gotta go to bed. Another long 10 to 13 hour shift awaits me tomorrow! Yay...

Is anybody else having problems with LJ? I keep getting error messages and *your post was deleted* emails. What the hell Lj? Why do you suck? Is my journal too image heavy?

Despite that i'm considering getting a paid account again, if only for the delicious amount of icons.

Aside from that - Have a crazy wet mop chase! Man, I can't wait to draw Oz again. I am so full of ideas!

Water as a weakness is not a great thing to have.

I like Will Smith, personally. He's cute, cool and is one of the rare actors of color to actually be the main character of several films. However, it is true that he's got bad points, such as the fact that he seems to be scientologist and that his role are very type casted. Smith is the main character, true, but often he is a very <black> main character (aka badass antihero who speaks on and off in ebonics). Though, i'm not sure if he does those roles because they make him take them, because they bring him money or because he likes them. He rather seems to like badassery. So it will forever remain a mystery.

And for those of you who don't know (and to whom I encourage to crack said books) I am Legend and I, Robot are both great literature works (see links for details) that I really love and that have shattered the world of the written world when they got published. Their movies (though they are still pretty okay to good movies) are much more focused on action then on the book's plots. And in both movies, the ending seems dissociated from the rest of the movie. Apparently, in the case of I Am Legend, that is because the movie had an original ending that was the same as the book. The movie ending got changed because test audiences did not react well to Will Smith and his character being shown as the villain.

In the original movie ending (and book ending) of I Am Legend, the main character realises he is actually a monster to the monsters since he is the last of the human kind in a world of vampires and hunts them. He then sacrifices himself, accepting that this is a necessary step in human evolution. In the current movie ending, immune humans appear out of the blue and the main character suddently finds a cure to the vampirism and sacrifices himself to save said cure. Both endings are okay, but the whole dying as a hero one contradicts several parts of the movie, such as the vampires being shown as intelligent and having a leader, like a society, rather then just being the infected killing machines the immunes need to cure.

Same with I, Robot. Granted, the main plot was always going to be robots taking over shit. But normally, humans would have lost. The supercomputer controlled everything. And yet, when they destroyed her, their world returned to normal, just like that, rather then having everything screw up on them after destroying the computer that, even evil, controlled EVERYTHING. When you destroy the main computer of something, stuff doesn't just go back to normal, usually.

In any case, I think i'm reading too much into action movies. But considering they are action movies based on jewels of literature, I would have expected more.

Oh well. At least Will Smith still has pecks of doom.

To me he will always be the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

p.s. Also - in the themes of Pride and Prejudice, did you know that a violent, action based version already exists? It's called Pride, Prejudice and Zombies. I kid you not. It's the same story. Just with Zombies. I plan to read it for the LOL.
