I need to go to bed... like, now.

...You know, before I kill something. With my pencil sharpener.
I'm still a beginner at photoshop coloring. So yeah. It is a frustrating endeavor. I'm trying to find a style for the "prologue" of Namesake, which is a flashback. I tried a bunch of things. Ended up choosing this Burton-esque coloring. Which is good enough. I guess. The words are weird. The drawing looks so organic that any computerized font looks terrible. But it needs to be readable. I hate you FONT! I HATE ALL OF YOU. DIE FONTS DIE.
It's 2h30 am. I've been trying to color for about 5 hours. I fail.
I'm still okay with the result and considering my photoshop skills aren't going to improve overnight, i'll guess i'll just go with this.
Probably make it less dark though. It's too dark right?
Yeah, only showing one panel. Because full pages are still a secret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paler version : (with different font)

In other news, I'm really starting to hate the street people in Montréal. I found the ones in Ottawa to be pretty chill. I even had long conversations with a few. And here in Montréal, the street wiseman was awesome. But some other guys. They suck.
I'm at a subway station, this guy comes up to me to give me his little story ("I'm not from here, I need 4 bucks for the bus blah blah blah"). I'm nice enough, I turn my ipod off. Listen to his little story. Decide to look for change. I say, as I open my wallet "I don't know if I have any change".
Guy replies : "It's okay, i'll take that five dollars bill right there."
What? No. Don't tell me what to give you. Uncool man.
I end up pulling out a two dollars coin (yes, we have those in Canada) and give it to him because it's my only change.
The guy looks at the money, gives me an evil glare, and walks away. No thank you. Nothing. Dude. I didn't have to give you anything! I worked for that money! That's 20 minutes of my time! Right there! The least you could do is say THANKS. JAYSUS YOU IMPOLITE F*CKER!
I don't mind giving my money. Truly, it makes me feel good to help someone out. But this type of attitude makes me want to reach and take it back. Or kick his teeth in. A thank you doesn't cost anything. And if you are asking for money, it's a part of the interaction. People don't "owe" anything to street people. It's a choice for them to do what they do the same way it is our choice to give them change, a warm meal, a conversation...
This guy makes the other guys look bad. If I ever see him again, i'm going to ignore the loving crap out of him. And donate to the guy 5 steps away. WHILE GIVING HIM A GLARE. YEAH DUDE. SEE THIS? F*CK YOU. F*CK YOU YOU IMPOLITE DINOSAUR.
Here ends my anger for the day.
Sleep now. Oh god sleep.

Date: 2010-07-04 07:07 am (UTC)I did it for my caricature portfolio. Looked better than any normal font.Behold:
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. :( I had a similar experiencetwo years ago. There was a bake sale and I bought a lot of sausage bread in Chinatown and on the way home there was a beggar--and Igave them two of my breads and they were like, "Hey! Get back here! I want money" I was pretty miffed.

Date: 2010-07-04 08:37 am (UTC)You better be careful with giving handouts. You might be better off keeping loonies and toonies in your pocket to give away without ever having to open your wallet. Beggars can't demand what they can't see. And I'd rather you not get your wallet snatched (or worse!) should someone decide to take what they please. Just be careful.

Date: 2010-07-04 09:11 am (UTC)Have you tried downloading the font Anime Ace? That's similar to what is on comic book pages and may look better there. Could also try perusing the free front sites and tweaking available fonts to get what we want - that's what I did with the main Namesake font.
Hey, two more days and you get me back! We plan to get to Mechanicsburg on Monday night.

Date: 2010-07-04 10:04 am (UTC)Agree entirely about aggressive beggars. There's a woman who waits for me at the bus stop. There can be hundreds of people milling about but she will only home in on her favourite visually-impaired victim. Give her any number of coins and she starts beefing that her daughter will starve to death unless she gets some paper money. She's started asking me to take her home with me!

I like your coloring! Why are you not happy with it :/ The paler version is my fave of the two ;)
OMG! LOL! That bottom pic is too funny! *snerk* XD

Date: 2010-07-05 01:38 pm (UTC)I don't know why i'm not happy with it. Maybe I just wish I had a different drawing/coloring style or something.

Date: 2010-07-04 07:43 pm (UTC)Being a beggar here is kind of a "job," and tehy do make a shitload of money.
Also, I could make a coloring tutorial if you want? Just for you... just give me the line-art and I'll do something...

Date: 2010-07-05 01:40 pm (UTC)Thanks for suggestion the tutorial, but i'm going to decline. I've been reading a million tutorials and right now, I feel like I just have too much information. I might take you up on it later. but not right now. Isa needs to think about something else for a bit.

Date: 2010-07-05 10:41 pm (UTC)Did you see Slumdog Millionaire? The part with all the kids being exploited by the bad guy... I guess it's kind of like that here, except we don't get singing kids, and they're not blind...
2) ok, good luck :D

Date: 2010-07-05 06:28 pm (UTC)As for the streetguy. Wow. I try not to give money to street people where I live simply because of the fact that most of it is just going to go towards booze. I honestly hope that Montréal is better about that.
Anyway. I hope the rest of your week goes better. :)

Date: 2010-07-12 01:21 pm (UTC)Seriously, it's extremely bad/ fake. Especially in the downtown side/ core. There's one woman I pass every now and again on Sherbrooke. Her take is actual crying/ tears as part of her begging. The first time I saw her, I was a little taken aback. But then I saw her every day doing the same thing. I could imagine that kind of weeping perhaps for a day... but not for weeks on end.
Another time a guy in a metro actually pissed me off with his antics and I followed him around for a bit. He would go from station to station asking for handouts on the actual platform. Watching him target his "marks" I could see who would be next. After a few stops, I got pissed off enough to sick the cops on him since I knew if I would tackle him myself I would be the one to get in trouble :)
