I've been drawing a lot of trades with folks lately (I have so free time, so why not?) One of the trades was for Batman : The animated series characters Jervis (aka the mad hatter) and his often-brainwashed crush, Alice Little. Oh, Batman. Teaching kids about creepy brainwashing and abusive relationships.

In other news, I also  commissioned a couple of pieces from folks. I like commissioning for pieces that are lineless orsimple art. Because it's something I don't do well. My stuff is always full of strong and stable lines. I like to see what my characters look like when drawn in a way I can't achieve.  Jonne on tumblr was nice enoguh to accept drawing my Sparkgobbler characters. Look at them cuties.

Today was pretty relaxing. I sketched all the pages I wanted to present to a comic contest. It's for a 6-page story and the theme of the book is lumberjacks and forests (SO CANADIAN HEH).

I also went exploring with a friend and found out that the park next to my house is a) really big and b) has some awesome fountains and a tiny troll bridge. No really. the rock formations under the bridge looked like tiny troll seats. The park is basically decorated by a very long man-made stream full of tiny pools and waterfalls. And it's made to look "natural", so with jagged rocks all over. The water originates from a fountain waaaay at the top of the park (the park is on an inclined plane). The top fountain is really well isolated (by a wall of rock, trees and a fence). So it seemed like a perfect place for a picnic. We kinda played in the cold water and were amazed by the fact that there was a rock formation smack where the water was rushing out that looked very, very phallic. Thus the top fountain was re-named "penis fountain".

Seems like a good adventure to me.

So, there's this strange graffiti posted around Montréal, that is basically Batman in a Tuxedo. (I didn't take this photo, I randomly found it off Google). I saw one quickly this morning as my bus rushed by it. It's pretty awesome. I wonder what it's suppose to represent, exactly? The Tuxedo Batman I saw was in a little place I love. There's this guy, close to the metro, that lives right next to a bridge. The sign over his large home says "metal worker" among other things. All the windows have intricate metal shapes and creatures in front of them. And there's this little vacant lot next to his home stuck between the bridge and the house where there's a ton of whimsical metal animal structures. I never actually got close (it's a little difficult to cross the street to visit it, which is why i'm guessing this parch of land was unused). It's like some kind of magical park the metal worker created for himself. I really love it.

And now his home is marked with the Tuxedo Batman.

Oh, in another note, I was accepted for Expozine, a little author comic con in the end of November. I know. I know. I,m tired of cons. But Expozine is actually a great place for things like webcomics, just like TCAF. And a friend of mine, Fanie, will be going too. So I felt inclined to give it a try.

Yep.

This week has been pretty "blah" generally, with the whole sick and tired deal. But i'm getting better. Got a few comic books. I'm on a huuuuge Batman kick again. I have no idea why. But I just want to watch the whole animated series without stopping. And then the Burton movies. And then the Nolan movies. And then read a crapload of comics. Unfortunately, all I seem to have in a couple of the movies. What's up with the lack of Batman in my house? This home needs more vigilante justice.

It also needs another bookcase. I am officially out of room. My bookcases are full of books. No, they are full of piles of books, placed on top of one another. Every space is used in a precarious pyramid of space maximization. So yeah. Time to find a bookcase, Most of hour furniture is nice, thick wooden stuff, so Link is trying to find a cheap yet classy second hand bookcase somewhere. We found a couple of good ones that way, such as one with a great glass casing. Hopefully, something is found soon.

This work week is a bit more busy then usual. Librairies and schools have started ordering a whole lot of books, and books need to ordered, sent, returned, found, organized, etc. Running around is happening. A few of my coworkers are sick/took thanksgiving off too, so tomorrow i'll be working alone (usually there's always two of us in the comic section) and I did an extra long shift yesterday. I just hope I won't get sick too.

Oh well. You all have a creepy Alice now. I was going to post a Batman sketch, but i'm unhappy with it.

And people wonder why easter and halloween are my favorite fake holidays. I can take in a lot of sugar. And I love it. really, it's a miracle I still have teeth. Oh Cadbury, you're magically delicious.

Work: In other news, work sucks this week. It's my week to do the events, so all my evenings are pretty much spent wearing a suit among various business people when I would rather be home in front of the tv or drawing. Or well, part of the job. If anything, this will allow me to accumulate "on the job" hours so that may take days off later.

Anime North: I discovered (and all you cats planning to go to anime north this year should check this too) that the long may break (aka Victoria day) is NOT on the same weekend as Anime North, as it usually is. I've asked my boss if I could take days off on that day and it's like pulling teeth! I get vacation days, so i'm allowed, but she doesn't want me to take them where I want to. Even though i'm asking a month in advance. This is the second time I propose to her a vacation date and she's not willing to let me take it, though she keeps asking me to give her a date so that she may incorporate it in the planning. My boss is weird.

Random: Aside from that, friends and myself are planning to go poke fun at Dragonball : the EPIC movie this friday, as it is the premiere. Prepare the LOL.

I caved and bought the first season of avatar: the last airbender. Oh, Nickelodeon, for 60$, I hope you do not deceive.

I,m also trying to draw batman villains right now. I love batman villains. He has the BEST villains. I'm trying to transform Bruce Timm's beloved designs (from the 90's Batman : the animated series) into The Dark Knight Versions of themselves. Okay, scarecrow and Joker and Two-face are done, but I really, really want to design Dark Knight Harley quinn and Poison Ivy. I'll let you guys see how this turns out.

Only reference picture of all the baddies I could find. And it's TINY!! I have larger references for their faces.
