What I like is that I draw so much that even during weeks where I don't really have time to draw, I have this pile of not used drawings and jokes. Such as this one. Oh, poor Link. But hey, for almost every prank I pull on him he gets me back. A lot. So i'm really the victim here!

I feel bad for Link. He's going thru a bit of a rough time. I'm not the greatest at being uplifting and supportive (people say i'm too rational and analytical). But I still try! At least i'm full of loving! I just hope he gets better and that things go better for him soon.

I spent my evening cutting pages for Rose. For those of you who don't know, cutting is the first step to making pages (for me anyways). How I draw pages is like so:
  • Cutting (aka drawing of where I want the panels to be, the bubbles and the characters generally. Usually not detailled sketches of poses and expressions)
  • Detailing (filling in the blanks and changing some panels for better ones)
  • Cleanup (removing the extra crap to get nice line drawings)
  • Inking (UUURGH)
  • Wording (aka inking of WORDS)
  • Scanning
  • Photoshop cleanup (Aka i'm too lazy to re-ink this so i'm cheating. Mwahahaha)
  • Coloring (if required)
I usually do the cutting half-way of the story/chapter (aka I cut 20 pages on 40 in the case of Rose), then finish that half up to inking, and then cut the other half and ink it. So i'm pretty much half-way finished with Rose. Minus the cleanup and extra drawings and stuff. Still. BOOYAH!

Other Booyah worthy statement - Futurama is returning. Oh yes. New seasons. On television. Oh, Glee!

I also bring you fanart that I drew during my lunch break. Behold - some Princess Tutu and some Avatar. I wanted to draw Genderswitch slayers too, but I guess inspiration didn't strike.

Chibi-tar! I love Toph. She's my favorite.

Yup, some Kataang. I like drawing Katara's hair almost as much as Lina. Aang is bald. Yet, I still like to draw him, despite him lacking the fluff to fill my hair-drawing obsession. But I seem to like baldies (KOFF KOFF Krillin KOFF Bruce Willis KOFF)

Sketches for the Princess Tutu Doujinshi i'll do some day maybe 3 days after I'm done being busy (never never land pacific time).

The Doujinshi is called Kapitel des Fluges (Chapter of Flight). I calle dit that way because i'm so bloody original and I wanted to do a wannabe season 3 myself (the season 3 all tutu fans wanted but never got). I chose flight as a title (most people call the fictional third season Chapter of swan) since the first two seasons are Egg and Fledging. Flight implies someone leaves the nest. Both Fakir and Ahiru are going to leave their nests in this story. I'm going to have a few classic season 3 fanfiction elements in there (such as Fakir seeking to return Ahiru to a human form and the exchange of their hearts) but also a few unexpected events and a lot of crazy fairy tale references.

I LJ cut stuff now. You lucky you.

That's all for now folks! I'm going to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a crazy work day. Urgh. Also, I have to go see my family in the evening. I wonder what the heck my brothers are doing. My younger bro is going on a road trip and he wants me to find my old walkman tapes so he and his friends can have music on the trip (the car they are taking with them has a radio dating from last century, hence the tapes.) This makes me feel OOOOLD.

It's nice to finally know the term "cutting!" I've got a whole bunch of it to do tomorrow (along with photoshopping and coloring), now I can use the word.

I absolutely love the angle of your pose in the last panel, so much depth, perspective and expression for what amounts to 3/4 from the rear!

I'm not sure the english term is *cutting* The french one is (decoupage) so I just say it that way. But I find it's a good term (and so much tomorrow! Poor you!)

Being self-employed and twiddling my thumbs, I've set myself up with a lot of work. I tend to do my cutting in Illustrator and print it all out in cyan on extra large paper. Since my dad has the printer I need for that, I have to go over to my parents' place to do the printing, which is a bother. But then, I end up with pages and pages of pre-lettered, fully cut pages that I can then detail and ink for weeks.

If I worked on smaller paper, I could use my own inkjet, but to save my carpel tunnel and tennis elbow I go big.

So, I can't whine too much!

I think I have photos of some of my process, if you're interested. Otherwise, it's simple enough that my paragraph above probably does it justice.

I'd like to see photos of your process!

Me, i'm low tech. I do everything by hand - minus the photoshot cleanup. In my defense, I was never trained to do illustration or comic work. All self-taught baby! *grins*

I graduated college with a BA in drawing, but all my graphics tech knowledge was learned on the job. I'm missing a lot of little tips and tricks (like how to present a good portfolio). Even a good education can fail you sometimes, and probably the best lesson is about how to learn on your own!

I really don't think my process is all that different than yours or any other cartoonist, except that I'm using the big printer on the enormous paper!

Anyway, here's my dad's printer:

Here's what my pencils often look like (though on smaller paper):

Here's a video clip of me inking part of a comic:

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1627427

The sound kind of sucks, you have to turn it all the way up. Also, it only shows you a little bit of my inking. Later clips may show more, it was a bad day. Oh, but hey, if you see me doing something there that could be improved, please let me know! I'm all about other people's tips and tricks. The main point of looking at the video, of course, is to see the scale of the paper (16" by 20").

And here's a screenshot of my coloring process:

I actually have a couple coloring processes, depending on the comic and how fast I want to get it done. It's Easy just gets the paint bucket treatment, where-as Harmless Free Radicals gets the lasso and airbrush, and multiple layers including textured scans and shading.

I know I have a better set of images than this, but I'm not sure where they are.

Poor Link--he didn't even get to finish his drink! :P I do also hope that things get better for him.

Boomerang!Sokka is hilarious. XD I really love all your Tutu drawings, too. The characters seem to fit your style perfectly. ^__^

He seemed better yesterday! He spent a good deal of time speaking to his brother, which is the best person for him to bounce ideas of and vent to (they are both trying to get into 3d animation, live together, like the same stuff and ARE technically genetic clones. Similar experiences and then some.)

And wow, i'm surprised by how easy it is to draw Tutu. It really does fit well.

Awww, I miss the days where I didn't have to click a link. ^_~

I love all of the drawings, but I do think Chibi Toph might be my favorite.

EVOLVE WITH TIMES! *laughs*

I grant you permission to use chibi toph as an icon. Because she is awesome.

That's awesome. I'll see if my friend can color and size it for me. Thanks. ^_^

Ooh, neat. A doujin.

Nice Avatar art! And for some reason I nearly typoed Avatar as Slayers.

And I'm amused by your constant torment of Link. Have you attacked him for his HEAAAAART lately?

Yes. Yes I did. But he did not give it to me!

The Link torture was pure Lina. That was awesome.

The other drawings go over my head but are still amazing.

I'm sorry Link is sad.

Sad Link is better now! *rejoice*

Yeah, It's not really series you're familiar with, but I do recommend them (especially tutu since you can watch it on veoh for free. That way you can decide if you like it or not before investing or not)

I'm happy to hear that Sad!Link has been replaced with Happy!Link.

I did try to watch Avatar, but the first couple of episodes were slow. However, I probably will try it again once I have the time to do so, since both you and [livejournal.com profile] the_flowergirl adore it so.

I told you to at least hold out to Jet. (ep. 10) Skip The Great Divide. By the time you get to end of season one, you'll be hooked. ^_~

*chuckles* Poor Link, he will always be your main target of torment. I hope things get better for him.

Glad to hear your Rose comic is almost done and I love your Princess Tutu idea (I read the summary on the Tutu community.) I especially like how you have an idea to do more with Pike. I've always liked her character and felt sad that she didn't seem to remember Ahiru. I would love to help with it. ^_~

The tutu will be awesome!

I don't think Link would be half as fun if I didn't get to mess with him.
