Pixar, stop hogging all the awesome.

I mean, really.

(SPOILER FREE) Up was amazing, animation and story wise. It proposes a very touching introduction and looks into serious issues the same way Wall-e did - with wit, humor and killer animation. It talks about adventure and how it's easy to miss (or rather how it's easy to think you never had one when you're whole life is one), it talks about death and moving on, it talks about friendship and it talks about the little boring things that make up a life, or rather an adventure, and make it worth living. The boring stuff, the tiny boring stuff is so beautiful in this movie. It's a good reminder to us about life and adventure.

The characters are somewhat stereotyped, but strung together... they rock.

I have a little soft spot for Doug, the talking Dog and Ellie, the main character's late wife, who barely appears in the film, but serves as a inspiring guide to the main character, who is still grieving.

So to resume, if you like Pixar, and even if you don't, Up is pretty amazing. Maybe a little childish, but the mind blowing animation will keep you distracted during those moments aimed at the kiddies.

Also, the opening short film (a new tradition at Pixar is that every major motion picture is matched with two short films - one shown in theaters and one on the DVD extras. They are opening the Vancouver studios to work on these and direct to DvDs movies) is hilarious.
Anyways, off to work with me. I'm doing crap long hours until friday. *sigh* I'll have to ask my boss why she is trying to destroy us all. *laughs* Everybody at the office is pretty tired and looking forward to next week, when we don't have a huge conference-contract taking over our lives.

I didn't really find anything childish about the film. Perhaps things weren't made as frightening as they could be...

I'm really liking that the Pixar shorts typically don't rely on actual language to tell the story, but just human gestures. I'm betting it speaks more powerfully across the globe that way, plus they don't have to worry about dubbing in other languages. At first I was a bit taken back by how disgustingly cute Partly Cloudy was, but that misconception changed by the end. Nothing like a cloud and his stork. ^_-

I laughed so hard during partly clouded. Mainly because it concentrated on shapes and expressions a lot rather then dialogue... They are so good at expressions O_O

At this point, I think Pixar has become another legend in the animation industry. Up was so touching, I found myself getting teary eyed in the first 5 minutes. Also, I loved Doug. Stu and I kept repeating his lines on the way home. He was just to lovable.

We saw UP this weekend. It did indeed rock. We didn't get either the short OR the trailers due to a little snafu with the theater. Monday's entry in my journal explains the whole thing.

Life is pretty good here at the House With No Muppet (as I'm officially calling it from now on).

We're getting closer and closer to being settled in and looking more like an actual residence as opposed to housing refugees. I've been taking pictures of the process and posting them on my Facebook. I hope to take more pictures of the whole place once all the boxes are gone.
