I wouldn't say it's sad, no. I ought to see more animated movies myself (I did dig up a few rare finds like the German "Felidae" last year...so dark, so creepy, and yet so interesting!) but I don't usually stray far from Disney and Pixar anymore. Plus, I don't really have any local buddies to see animated movies with. I'll have to poke some friends into using the freebie movie tickets we got when WALL*E messed up to see the new Up movie when it comes out.

Oh, and Millennium Actress is one of my favorite movies as far as documentaries go. I really did feel connected to the main character's plight and LOVED how her telling her life story drew in the man and his cameraman into her story. Heck, the cameraman's reactions to everything he saw alone made the movie awesome! I also liked the symbolism of her passing on/flying off into space in a rocket. But dang, did it make me cry...

Dreamworks did make a direct-to-video movie after Prince of Egypt, based on another Bible story: Joseph and his coat of many colors. I never saw it. Prince of Egypt was interesting, but it really made the Bible story really generic in trying not to offend any particular religion. I'll stick to reading the Bible for such stories, I guess.

Millenium actress is one of my all time favorites too. But everyone I tried to get to watch it has fallen asleep. I guess it's an aquired taste.

I didn't think I watched so much animation before I did that list, but there you go, I do!

I think they should add Happily Ever After, The Rainbow Brite Movies and the futurama movies to this.

Sadly, I can't get people to watch it, either. Once they hear there are subtitles to read, they refuse. (Are subtitles really so evil?) I did get my mom to watch it though, which is amazing since she doesn't like anime or 'modern animated movies' (her favorite quote is, "I like the old movies," but she never even watches the new!) and she really liked it. I guess it is an acquired taste. Maybe people need an appreciation for art, history, foreign language, and creative storytelling...

You can add more to the list if you want. I added Flight of Dragons to mine since it wasn't on there (one of my favorite!), but I hadn't even thought about the Rainbow Brite movies! It still saddens me that animated cartoons and movies from the 80s (not including theatrical releases) have much better animation than the current! It's really kind of pathetic.

Ooh, and I forgot, but did you see Lion King 1 1/2 yet? I think you have, if you do love Timon. I watched it the other night because my older sister wanted to see it (but she wandered off to do exciting things like laundry and shave her legs) and as usual I just stared at the animation. Good animation really makes me happy.

Also, is it just me, or did children cartoons shows from the 80s carried a better quality which is hard to find in today's cartoon.

Example, compare the very first My Little Pony special (Escape from Midnight Castle) and the new specials. The difference just astounds me. The recent ones are so sugary/sweet they hurt my teeth, but the first one was rather dark with a rainbow of darkness, and innocent ponies getting turned into monsters? The My Little Pony Movie wasn't as dark as the first special, but it still had an actual plot and more action than the new series.

A lot of the new adaptations of old cartoons just feel like they've been dumb down to me. (I've noticed this mostly happening to the "girl" series I might add. Care Bears, Strawberry shortcake, etc.) -_-;

Wow. Just wow. I don't even know where to start.

Reading this really made my night. XD;

Especially your comment about the Utena movie. XD XD XD!

Dude. I knew Utena. I saw the series. Read the manga. Even read the MOVIE'S managa (translated in french) and I was still midly WTF in front the movie. Anthy was kinda...Skanky. And everyone was dead? Gant erect penises on statues in the background? I was confused. I still liked it. It was a beautiful movie, but you REALLY gotta know the series to understand it. And even then.

I saw the series, but never read the manga, nor the movie's manga. :< And I, too, was also confused as heck about the movie. Even with the director's commentary on, I had to watch it like twice. xD;

Dude, Anthy and Utena had a major personality switch, but not even TV Utena was -that- forward.

It -is- a beautiful movie. I favor the dancing scene out of the entire film. <3~ I make note to re-watch the TV one of these days, I'm just too lazy and got a full plate of other anime to watch. @_@

Happily Ever After? I remember that movie, I loved it too. I even managed to find the mp3 of the final song that played during the credits. Do you want it? ^_~

I don't know what that song is like - i've only seen this movie in french! I loved the prince though. For once, he kicked serious ass. Also, soooooo much girl power, amiright?

Yeah, the prince in this version actually DID something besides kissing Snow White awake. I also loved Mother Nature, she was awesome. XD

I did like Disney's Alice in Wonderland, although I did find it too cartoonified in spots, totally removing the subtleties from the book.

Did you know that if you watch Atantis, it's basically the SAME THING as the first ever Stargate movie that came out in the early 90's? scary.
Also, smurf-crystal missing too! That series was awesome!
