So, i'm back from the anime con. I went to the con with Fauve and her fiancé. After we went to Winterlude (basically a giant-winter festival complete with giant ice-slides, ice palaces, outdoor food, concerts and parades that lasts 2 weeks) since one of the parks that hosts Winterlude (there is 4 or so) is right in front of my house (and I mean, I cross the street and i'm there.)

We agreed that Winterlude was a lot more fun and cheaper then the con. The con had a pretty high entrance price and was small and somewhat odd. All three of us felt old and out of place since all the anime fans were about 16 to 18 years old and all the anime samplings playing were all these really new series we had never heard about (and frankly, they were WEIRD and contained a lot of pretty girls in small amounts of clothing). I much prefer Anime North. I'm not surprise that the con is small since it's the first year. I'm actually quite fine with it. The reason why I PREFER Anime North is because most of the con-goers there are more in our age group (18 to 26) so we feel less like... well, overgrown geeks.

The costumes were good though and the con people at least get an A for effort for trying to create a new con. It's hard work. I enjoyed their "Manga-librairy" where you could borrow for an hour a manga and read it and therefore sample some new series. Great idea.

Winterlude was awesome though. I love the ice sculptures and the slides. And the Beaver Tails. Oh yes, sugar baby, sugar.

All I have for your guys as a comic today is a drawing of a Slayers Novels Scene. Enjoy it!

Sorry about the lack of Lj-cut...but they won't work today for some reason! I curse them!

Only 18-26? I cry inside, I am now too old to attend conventions!

.....

Since I already peppered you with questions earlier, I'll not do so here. The manga library sounds kind of cool! That would be a good idea. I'm the type who doesn't just buy a manga on a whim, I have to know of it, know what the plot is, etc. (I'm kind of the same with movies..)

It's kind of funny that everyone loved that scene in the novels so much. It wasn't my favorite ("Eep! Bad thoughts! Bad!"), but how everyone reacted to Lina's statement was pretty funny. Seeing it actually drawn out is really cool though! I think the equation with the little man is my favorite! XD

Everybody loves the equation! You guys should give me more nevel scenes to illustrate (I don't own the novels. I didn't buy them out of lack of money at the time and now, good luck finding them. I might order them some day. Did they end up cancelling the final book or do we have the novels in full translated?)

Like I said; Anime North had more people in our age group. Link figured it was probably because anime north was a trip for a lot of people (staying at the hotel, coming from afar) so it's more people with income that would go. Hence the older and better costumed age group XD

Tokyo Pop only released the first eight, so we finished the Hellmaster arc (Next timeline), but that's it. I don't know if we'll ever get to see the rest translated and released, at least not in English. You ought to check Amazon.com (specifically here) since they ought to have all of the novels. If you dare, you can even get used copies for fairly cheap.

Any time something costs more money it's going to draw an older audience. That, and as anime fans keep aging, the age group for conventions will, too. ^_-;;

The money thing is definitly impacting on the crowd. But I prefer it that way.
