For those who don't know:
Meyer = Twillight / Hamilton = Anita Blake Vampire Hunter / Wedon = Buffy the vampire slayer / Rice = Interview with a vampire / Stoker = Dracula.

Look! I managed to combine vampire jokes, back to the future jokes and a much delayed "wow, americans finally woke up and elected someone decent how the hell did that happen?" joke (no offence to americans, it's just Bush made your country look terrible. Don't feel too bad, we still have our "Bush" here in Canada, aka Harper art killer, worse prime misniter for arts ever.)

I'm on fire.

As far as Twillight goes, my opinion is thus; I was hoping the movie would be better then the book. I did not enjoy the book, though I understand why some would (angst, vampires, true love, heck, that's easily best seller material if you insert the right words in between) and I was hoping the director would have enough artistic inspiration to make it better. But honestly, I think I preffered suffering thru the book rather then the movie (bad, bad acting. Pretty graphics though.) The movie felt like a fanfic re-telling of the original story or something. So yeah, if you're a twillight fan, don't expect too much from the movie and stick to your book. If you hate twillight, don't spend money to go see the movie. If you really want to laugh at it, rent it. In the privacy of you own home, you can make a drinking game out of it.

Oh and for those who wonder, I don't like Ann Rice either. Vampire angst is not my thing. I prefer how Wedon potrays them; savage beasts with one or two smarter alpha males. Cuz really, they are under, savage killing machines and Louis is a weepy annoyance.

I'm also addicted to the new Disney film Wall-e. I watched the thing twice, got the soundtrack and even asked a friend of mine (aka Diane, my Disneyworld park-working minion) to fetch me some wall-e and Eve plushies. Wall-e is incredible in so many ways, and it's the cutest love story i've seen in ages. Yay, Pixar robotic love.

*laughs* gullwhacker main issue with Twilight is that the vampires sparkle. "They're suppose to burn up in the sun not SPARKLE!" Sometime, I'll have to show you Terry Pratchett's version of vampires sometime. Stu tells me it's one of the best versions of vampires he's read.

Yeah, i'm also disturbed by the not burning in daylight thing. I mean, if Vampires are basically predators who hunt on humans and have all those super powers/super strenght people give them, we'd be so screwed. The fact that they can't prowl at night, can't cross running water (knowledge that comes mighty handy when pursued by a vamp near a river) and can't enter your home uninvited protects us. Now, if they can walk during the day and enter your home to spy at you at night (STALKER!) we would be screwed completly. So I do get the whole daywalker appeal when it comes to a love story I guess but at the same time...

Also, why would a 107 year old vampire attend high school if he's afraid of biting everyone?

..why do you think it shames me so much every time I even hear that book/movie name? SHAMED!! I'm all for fantasy and such, but Twilight seems to represent everything I hate about vampires/goth culture/teenage culture in general. And it's written by an LDS person.

I think my brain just broke. At least people like C.S. Lewis could find ways to get across their beliefs and such in such a way that the stories themselves were good, but also carried a good message. I'm sorry, but I'll take a girl's joy in finding a benevolent lion over a girl angsting about some stupid vampire.

(My older and younger sister have both read/are reading the books. My younger sister didn't like the movie, apparently, but she thought the book was okay. Then again, my sister doesn't read much in to things. If something's not spelled out on the pages, in her mind, it never happened. Still waiting to hear what the older sister thinks.)

Well, yeah. Pratchett kind of started with the Stoker variant, and then began to mock. Relentlessly.

But I /like/ the Black Ribboners. They're vampires out and about in human society - and who get along by virtue of not drinking human blood. Black ribbon to signify the pledge and all. It's like a vampire's Alcoholics Anonymous.

And they still have the vulnerabilities. There was one vampire who kept complaining that his employers were trying to kill him! The fencepost manufacturers, the holy water suppliers, the garlic stocking at the local grocer...

I prefer D&D vampires, personally. Sneaky, conniving, not to be trusted and when things really get down to it - you can smite them. Vampires are supposed to be there to make you one of them, NOT sex machines. (Well, they use the sex appeal to lure stupid people in, then said stupids are turned.)

The goth comment reminded me! Yesterday I came across a guest that was visiting from California, and he said that Disneyland has a 'Goth Day' (called 'Bat Day', complete with a logo of a bat with a Mickey icon on it). Crazy, crazy stuff.

I'll be holding on to Eve and Wall-E for now. You know, just in case I come across something else you'd be wanting. ;) (Big sale coming up at EPCOT next week. I am so there!)

I think vampires are made to be all sex. I mean, the whole blood exchange symbolism and etc makes it pretty darn impossible to not see vampires as sexy. THe whole immortal thing as well as luring aspect also defines them as creaturtes that use sex to lure humans and basically relish in it. I personnaly have nothing against them being associated to sex, it basically makes them scarier. They use one of your most basic needs to control you and it's all very much linked to instinct, reinforcing the whole vampires-being-more-like-animals theory and not caring about love.

I dunno, I like my vamps as predators. I know in Buffy the vampire slayer, that was basically what they were. Except for one guy called Angel. But he used to be super-extra-evil-with-a-cherry-on-top. He only became good because a bunch of gypsies gave him is soul back. I know that in Buffy there is also a vampire that falls in love with a human and his first reaction is to think he's insane and be disgusted with himself. So yeah; buffy vamps are predators and falling for humans is odd. Hence why I like buffy vamps so much!

Vampires = the ultimate sex predator. What with how we look at rape and such, you would think more women would abhor the thought of a vampire... It's like deep down inside women want to be sexual prey. Seems the power of vampires is incredibly strong!

I'll be on the lookout for Wall-E stuff, don't worry. ^_-

I work with a few 'bad boys' myself. Personally, I'd much prefer boy scouts of any kind who know how to treat a girl. Heck, I love spending time with one of the guys I work with because he does small things like hold doors open for me, lets me get off the bus before him, etc. He respects me for being female. The same can't be said for the others, one in particular who had to talk about having sex with some random girl while I was sitting right there. Talk about scum of the earth!

(The stupid girls can have their bad boys. I'd prefer not to have my heart broken after the one-night stand is over... *wants to pound the scuzzy guy into the ground, badly*)

Hmm...I wonder if that applies to werewolves too then?

They're rather similar in that they can use sex as a way to lure a person so they can be turned into a werewolf. Also, vampires and werewolves can be both seen as predators. Although werewolves are can be pitied more because, in a lot of stories, they're humans who don't want to turn into uncontrollable beasts (yes I'm thinking of Lupin here).

Although, I think vampires would probably be more connected to sex just because I can see vampires being more mysterious and seductive than werewolves. *ponders*

Werewolves would be much more about predation than about sex. In human form, sure, they could use their charm to woo a lady. But, full moon comes out, and chances are the woman isn't thrilled about her charmer suddenly becoming very hairy, and the sharp teeth wouldn't help the werewolf's cause much, either...

(As for whether or not a werewolf fears becoming a werewolf, it really depends on if they're a natural were or not. Natural weres -those born into it- can keep their wits about them after the change. Those who are weres due to infection -being bitten- have little to no chance of keeping their wits about them, so they're more likely to fear becoming werewolves.)

Oh goodness no. LJ Smith's work is 12 years old or more. It's only recently that her stuff has been re-released.

I'm not sure, to be honest, if her books were translated into French. Maybe check Amazon?
