Happy international women day!

The estrogen is mighty indeed.
My new addiction to shoes: curtesy of my friend Tama. Hehehe. (Thank you!)
But no worries, my addiction to comics is still mightier. (and much much more expensive)
I spent most of my weekend sick and snowed in. But I got a lot of drawing done. Go to the cut to see one of my latest drawings; this one is about metamorphosis in fairy tales.

Here's the drawing. This one is a two-parter with humans-turning into animals/things on one side (including the Tin Man! - Yes he was once human, look it up) and the animals turning into humans on the other (with the little mermaid) The layer underneath shows their original form and the top layer shows the transformation.

There's another layer based on the myth of Tam lin. In Tam lin, a young girl must hold Tam lin while the fairy folk turn in into various monsters to prove her love. In the layer of humans transforming, you can see they are not only transforming but also turning into a blob of monstrous appearances. The over layer showed the girl holding them. That layer is not here; it got damaged in transportation and must be re-done.
There's a lot of symbolism in this picture. I like it a lot. :)

The symbolism is excellent, and as a fan of those transformation stories, I find it all the more amazing to behold. (It always amuses me seeing an animal in a human pose wearing human clothes. What are you...a furry artist? Hurts, doesn't it? *laughs*)
And now I shall pine for leaving my book of mythology at home. I guess I'll just have to read Brother and Sister...

Date: 2008-03-09 01:00 pm (UTC)Those drawings are very cool. I really like the little Mermaid one. It's a very neat idea. You know, the other day I saw that a novel was written which was a modern version of "Tam Lin." I haven't read it though, so I don't know how good it is.
(digs for link) Here it is: Tam Lin novel

And I like the drawings. They are very Gothic inspired and I like that. They remind me of the classic illustrations of children's books, like the Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland.
Long comment is LONG!

Man, I really need to go shoe shopping when the new shoes come out. I want new sandals with super funky colors (They must look like LEMONADE!)
