My parents took me to see Enchanted tonight! It was a nice break from the homework. Man, that movie was nice. It makes you want to jump on your feet and twirl while singing. I like how it poked fun a bit at the Disney princess stereotype. I was also amused to see two of my favorite actresses playing background characters: Idina Menzel (Maurene from Rent and Elphaba from Wicked) and Micheala Colin (Angela from Bones the tv series who is according to me the most beautiful actress i've ever seen! Not hot, just beautiful! She's Eurasian too ^_^!)

The ending was nice. I got to see Idina Menzel animated and I like how Giselle gains a bit of guts. Giselle's dressed are also really nifty to look at. I like how the fabric moves with her. She's really got the princess moves down. The animation was of course, beautiful. If only there was more! I also like the messages about true love. It's very cute. It's true, people seem to overcomplicate love. Giselle's simplistic princess view of love is too naive, and Robert's disenchanted view of it is depressing. There should be a nice middle ground. If anything, true love should be balanced.

The silent auction is finished, and all my pieces sold (for pretty good prices, i'll admit) so it was great! I also got a bit down with my xmas shopping yesterday with my friend Fauve. At first, I was going to make drawings and art for a lot of people, but then I though "nobody wants my crap" so I started buying more things. Then people actually came up and told me they really really wanted drawings instead. Gyah. *laughs* Tomorrow i'll try to take the time in between homework to prep some canvas to make drawings. It's going to be fun drawing all of this.

I also had my xmas critique on thursday. Critiques are kinda like exams for art classes. You show the work and people give you their opinion. Everybody loves my drawings apparenly, minus one detail. The face. It seems i'm a great people illustrator; I know how the body moves and how the muscles works. My faces still look "disney-esque" according to the teacher and several students. It's kinda true, I admit it. It was a bit of a rought critique it seems because a few of my class friends tried to reassure me afterwards (I must have looked like a wet kitten on a doorstep). However, I'm glad it got pointed out because I honestly need this type of honesty to become a good illustrator. No worries though; I'm still going to draw plenty of cartoons. I just need to define well the limit between my artwork and my comic work.

As an end note, has anybody heard of the new Sci-fi channel series "Tin man?" It's based on the wizard of Oz and it looks kinda...odd. (check out the trailer on youtube if you want to know what I mean) It looks a bit like the 2006 series they tried to lauch (Lost in Oz). Lost in Oz was a monumental flop. It was nice special effects and a poor story. And the actrice had no substance. I'm hoping "Tin Man" willbe better. Although, when you read critiques of it on the web it's mostly bad. I'm willing to give it a chance. Unfortunatly, I don't get Sci-fi channel up here. I'm hoping someone will post it on youtube...

The movie was fantastic, but they really did need more animated scenes! (I'm glad they animated the ending with Prince Edward and his new bride as well. That was great stuff!) ^_-

It's funny you mention the Tin Man thing. Yesterday while surfing the internet during class (yes, shame on me) I saw an add for that and wondered if you knew anything about it. I bet someone will post it on YouTube soon enough.

The movie was fun. It was as refreshing as Stardust. I'm kinda glad we got so many princess movies this year (it feeds my kiddish romantic side. Yep. I'd rather be corny in a big dark room. XD)

If you have the sci-fi channel, check it out for me! Tell me if it's any good! ^_^

I still haven't seen Stardust, but I keep hearing good things about it. They still have it at a theatre here, but I've a feeling I won't be seeing it until it's out on video. :( I need to live near people who actually like going to the movies... As for being corny, I think there's a fine line between awful corny and good corny. As we were talking about last night, Disney Channel itself seems to be filled with the awful corny, while Enchanted was the kind of corny I love. I really do love how they spoofed on a lot of the Disney princesses, but they did it with some respect still. (And Amy Adams -Giselle- playing her part straight was such an inspired idea. It made the movie more fun for Giselle to truly be this naive and innocent woman.)

"She thinks we...kissed?" <- Seriously my favorite line!

I'll have to check to see if we have Sci-Fi Channel here at school. I'm pretty sure I've passed by it before, but most of the programming usually scares me (sci-fi genres scare me, so sad), so I don't stay there long. I'll have to check scheduling, too. The roommates tend to take over the television from late afternoon until past midnight, so YouTube might be the only hope for either of us seeing what the show is really like. o_O;

aaa, critiques..... I wanted to go see you after my critique 'cuz i didnt get time to talk to you about yours before, but...yeah... breakdown got in the way :P But yeah, i was about to say basically what you said... i thought there needed a definition between your cartoon and your art-school drawings (for lack of better term :P).... I think it's also a question of style... like the small drawing i pointed out (which i LOOOOOOVED by the way :P), the style of the drawing was very victorian, and the faces and hairstyles went beautifully with the rest.... not to say that cartoon-y is not a valid style versus a more organic style like your bodies (for example, your alice in your glass box was a good example of good animation style pulled together), but the two styles just don't mix.... at least, not well... But i think the size was also a factor... But not to worry, they were amazing, pretty much like every drawing you do :) and that's what critques are for i think, not to tell you you're doing everything right, but to tell you what the hell is wrong with what you have so that you can correct it :P because if it would always be good, after a while it would be a little boring. but when people are able to tell you what's wrong with your art, you're able to correct it and not only make it good, but make it AMAZING, because no art is perfect, and perfection is boring anyways :P

Perfect art would be boring. And as you said, I really needed this to get better. I've already draw about 100 faces. *laughs* size is definitly a factor; a more cartoony style is build for smaller spaces, hence the extremly wide and simple lines. I just need to adapt.
I was hoping your crit wasn't too hard on you. I noticed Leslie spoke to you afterwards. I hope it's not similar stuff as Third Isa's photo based breakdown. In any case, if you need anything, just let me know ! :)

The movie was awesome! Which reminds me, I did some sketches of Giselle, I love her cartoon character design. Although, I do agree they should have had more animated scenes.

I heard about Tin Man the other day. It looks interesting, but it's hard to tell if it will have a good story or not. (just remembered) Did you know that there is a Wizard of OZ manga? It's been printed in the last year or so. http://theanimeblog.com/2007/02/26/oz-the-manga-review/

I heard about the Oz manga, but I never got down to it. It seemed weird to see a typical american fairy tale manga styled. It's kinda what made me realise pure manga does not work for everything. Which kinda goes with what my teacher said in the crit ; the subject has it's own style.

Glad you enjoyed the movie! Man, I haven't seen a movie in months! *sobs*

And Angela from Bones is in it? She's purrrrrty!! And I've had a massive crush on James Marsden since he was on Second Noah. Mmmmmm.... Plus, there's Patrick Dempsey who's pretty easy on the eyes if I do say so myself. Yeah, I know where my priorities lie.

And I'm glad your auction went well! Yay!

Angela is gorgeous. I love her attitude as well. Booth is also much love. I used to hate him on Buffy, then I started liking the actor on the Angel spinoff. I just love David Boreneaz in Bones. Not to mention (funny trivia) Hodgins played a few background characters in Angel season five (mainly cranky lawyers).

I prefer Patrick Dempsey to James Marsden. James seem too much like... "Fresh meat." I like Dempsey's rugged good looks better. I also have a thing for dark-haired pale-eyed men. Ah, Patrick! Hey, wasn't James in Hairspray?

Yes she is. Yeah, I like Booth and Bones' whole dynamic. All the UST!!

Really? I never knew that! Neat!

Yeah, I like dark haired/pale eyed guys myself. Everytime I come up with a male character for something, he's black haired and blue eyed. Dunno why really...
