Maybe ever after

My parents took me to see Enchanted tonight! It was a nice break from the homework. Man, that movie was nice. It makes you want to jump on your feet and twirl while singing. I like how it poked fun a bit at the Disney princess stereotype. I was also amused to see two of my favorite actresses playing background characters: Idina Menzel (Maurene from Rent and Elphaba from Wicked) and Micheala Colin (Angela from Bones the tv series who is according to me the most beautiful actress i've ever seen! Not hot, just beautiful! She's Eurasian too ^_^!)
The ending was nice. I got to see Idina Menzel animated and I like how Giselle gains a bit of guts. Giselle's dressed are also really nifty to look at. I like how the fabric moves with her. She's really got the princess moves down. The animation was of course, beautiful. If only there was more! I also like the messages about true love. It's very cute. It's true, people seem to overcomplicate love. Giselle's simplistic princess view of love is too naive, and Robert's disenchanted view of it is depressing. There should be a nice middle ground. If anything, true love should be balanced.
The silent auction is finished, and all my pieces sold (for pretty good prices, i'll admit) so it was great! I also got a bit down with my xmas shopping yesterday with my friend Fauve. At first, I was going to make drawings and art for a lot of people, but then I though "nobody wants my crap" so I started buying more things. Then people actually came up and told me they really really wanted drawings instead. Gyah. *laughs* Tomorrow i'll try to take the time in between homework to prep some canvas to make drawings. It's going to be fun drawing all of this.
I also had my xmas critique on thursday. Critiques are kinda like exams for art classes. You show the work and people give you their opinion. Everybody loves my drawings apparenly, minus one detail. The face. It seems i'm a great people illustrator; I know how the body moves and how the muscles works. My faces still look "disney-esque" according to the teacher and several students. It's kinda true, I admit it. It was a bit of a rought critique it seems because a few of my class friends tried to reassure me afterwards (I must have looked like a wet kitten on a doorstep). However, I'm glad it got pointed out because I honestly need this type of honesty to become a good illustrator. No worries though; I'm still going to draw plenty of cartoons. I just need to define well the limit between my artwork and my comic work.
As an end note, has anybody heard of the new Sci-fi channel series "Tin man?" It's based on the wizard of Oz and it looks kinda...odd. (check out the trailer on youtube if you want to know what I mean) It looks a bit like the 2006 series they tried to lauch (Lost in Oz). Lost in Oz was a monumental flop. It was nice special effects and a poor story. And the actrice had no substance. I'm hoping "Tin Man" willbe better. Although, when you read critiques of it on the web it's mostly bad. I'm willing to give it a chance. Unfortunatly, I don't get Sci-fi channel up here. I'm hoping someone will post it on youtube...

Date: 2007-12-02 04:13 am (UTC)It's funny you mention the Tin Man thing. Yesterday while surfing the internet during class (yes, shame on me) I saw an add for that and wondered if you knew anything about it. I bet someone will post it on YouTube soon enough.

I'll have to check to see if we have Sci-Fi Channel here at school. I'm pretty sure I've passed by it before, but most of the programming usually scares me (sci-fi genres scare me, so sad), so I don't stay there long. I'll have to check scheduling, too. The roommates tend to take over the television from late afternoon until past midnight, so YouTube might be the only hope for either of us seeing what the show is really like. o_O;

Date: 2007-12-02 04:20 pm (UTC)I was hoping your crit wasn't too hard on you. I noticed Leslie spoke to you afterwards. I hope it's not similar stuff as Third Isa's photo based breakdown. In any case, if you need anything, just let me know ! :)

Date: 2007-12-02 02:19 pm (UTC)I heard about Tin Man the other day. It looks interesting, but it's hard to tell if it will have a good story or not. (just remembered) Did you know that there is a Wizard of OZ manga? It's been printed in the last year or so. http://theanimeblog.com/2007/02/26/oz-the-manga-review/

Date: 2007-12-03 02:58 am (UTC)And Angela from Bones is in it? She's purrrrrty!! And I've had a massive crush on James Marsden since he was on Second Noah. Mmmmmm.... Plus, there's Patrick Dempsey who's pretty easy on the eyes if I do say so myself. Yeah, I know where my priorities lie.
And I'm glad your auction went well! Yay!

Date: 2007-12-03 03:26 am (UTC)I prefer Patrick Dempsey to James Marsden. James seem too much like... "Fresh meat." I like Dempsey's rugged good looks better. I also have a thing for dark-haired pale-eyed men. Ah, Patrick! Hey, wasn't James in Hairspray?

Date: 2007-12-03 04:16 am (UTC)Really? I never knew that! Neat!
Yeah, I like dark haired/pale eyed guys myself. Everytime I come up with a male character for something, he's black haired and blue eyed. Dunno why really...
