Of Oz and other things

Ohayo gang!!! I wonder how you are all doing. I'm doing well. Well, sortoff.

I just got back from visiting my family up in Quebec City. I was glad to see my grandma and aunts, and it was all good fun. Link came with and got to see how things are up north. We also visited old quebec, which is what used to be the fortifications to keep the english out. Now it's a really touristy place, with lost of street artists and little shops. Very cute. I always forget how beautiful Quebec is. 

I'm also very happy. I'm starting school soon. That's going to be crazy. I have an internship, school, work and homework (and hopefully, a social life) all at once. The winter session should be much less crammed, since I don't have an internship, and only 4 classes. Things are definitly looking up : I got a grant. The university gave me money because of my "A" average (yes, i'm hermione. I have a love affair with fat books.). Since my mother works at the university's education departement ; I get a discount to attend (and no, I didn't attend because my mama was working there, I started attending before she started working there.) With the discount and the grant put together...I go to school for free. I was amazed to see that when I got my financial report. Hell, the university even owes me money. How sweet is that? Considering how the art building is as crappy stack of cards glued together, I feel quite good not having to pay. hahhha.

I can't wait to share a studio with my pal Tanya!!! 

I'm equaly very giddy because I figured out what I wanted to do with my life. As I mentionned to a friend no later than last night, when you don't know what you are doing, it tends to make you miserable. I want to go into event planning. I like that type of job because it's creative and yet as an administrative side. You do as much budgetting as color coding. It seems like the perfect job for me. Plus, you need some everywhere.

Right now, i,m trying to organise my future internship and my return to school. I,m also trying to kill off the few comissions I still have lingering (forgive me diane & daphne) so i'm a little stressed. But it will pass.

I've been also perfecting my personal style to try to make it less manga (mainly in serious drawings. I don't mind drawing manga for the blog since manga you draw fast.) So I did a few Oz drawings in that style:

God I love how dynamic this picture is. It used to be part one of a two part drawing, but I calculated badly and the two drawing don't actually fit well together. I love how doppleganger Isa is running down a twisting yellow brick road. The lady in the back is princess Ozma. Originally Ozma was supposed to be another doppleganger, but I started thinking about the Imperatrice character in never ending story and though I wanted to create a similar character. I figured I could keep whom I wanted to be the original Ozma for another character down the road.

I love the movement in this.

A battle between Renge the wizard of Oz and Link the wicked warlock of the west? Definitly planning to be a kick ass battle.

I love the expressions on this drawing. I hate the hands though.

I mentionned before I wanted to leave the story ending open ; so I could return to the world of Oz. I had a talk with Earthstar and we sortoff identified a few characters with the same hability as dorothy (Isa)...This is the gang of them.  There's Alice, with her vorpal sword. Gerta, from the Ice queen who travels through a whole world to find her lover Kay, holding a rose, one of the recurring symbols of her fairy tale. There's also Jack from the beanstack, because he's awesome and we need a wolrd travelling boy after all? He does go to another world... Last but not least, Wendy, who still has flying powers. I don't know if i'd ever use any of these characters, but I like the idea of them. I also, for some odd reason, picture Wendy and Jack married. Anyways....

When you don't know what you are doing, it tends to make you miserable. I agree. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, but during that time, I couldn't help but feel lost until I finally decided what I was going to do.

I love the little traveling crew. (Alice has a great outfit) Although, I do wonder why there are more girl world travelers in fairy tales then boys? I've been trying to think of more boys characters and I STILL can't think of anyone. @_@

(squeals over Captain Hook/Wicked Witch) XD That's awesome! I really like your Hook verision. He reminds me a bit of Zorro. Very cool. ^_~

I can see how some might confuse your style with manga, but all the same your style has never screamed "manga!" at me, either. The characters aren't quite uniform and 'cute' enough (in that uniformly cute way). I'd say you border more on a Disney-esque style, but even then there's nothing blatant to look like you lifted your style right off of anything. Anyway, I babble... It looks like you've taken various influences and incorporated them into your own style, which I like. It makes me wish I'd get back to working on my own style, since I never really got into experimenting with it. One of these days...

I remember you mentioning event planning a few weeks back. It's good to have 'solid' work to fall back on. I've a feeling that even though I want to become a script writer or something along the lines of story creation, I'll have to start by doing film editing...and possibly even camera work. Got to start somewhere then strive toward that main goal. (And who's to say you can't explore passions in your off time?)

As for the commission... I'd like to see it done, but I still don't want you killing yourself (or your sanity) trying to do so. But what is it with delaying on people whose names start with a D, eh? ^_-

(Here I should be working on my own self-imposed project...but I'm slacking today.)

Awwww! Hook and the Wicked Witch happy at last! Even the evil need love. Makes 'em look better, too!

Since I've had a thing for Alice in Wonderland from the time I was a toddler and my mom read it and Through the Looking Glass to me, I truly adore your warrior Alice with Attitude. No Victorian cupcake, she!

I like the colored oz drawing with the circling yellow brick road. Very interesting.

And in the drawing where you and me are on the floor holding each other... My hands are huge!!!! Awesome and true.
