To resume the bedbug issue : my friend Fauve hooked me up with a website saying that according to Montréal law, extermination of certain pests where to be organized and paid by the landlord himself, the list of pests included bed bugs. So despite what them concierge told me, I contacted my landlord directly and voilà, my apartment is going to be hosting an extermination team on Friday. And I don't have to pay for it.

Before the exterminators show up, me and Link basically have to clean EVERYTHING in the apartment and wash everything and anything that may be composed of fabric, even in the rooms that are not the bedroom. So, my apartment is gradually becoming cleaner then it's ever been, ever. Not that i'm usually messy, but DANG, THIS IS REALLY ANAL CLEANING.

I had to toss out a few things, pillows and Megatron, the giant carnival tiger plushy. I'm a little sad about that.

So, I guess I was lucky in my bad luck. Still, we have so much work ahead of us (about 70 loads of laundry. I kid you not).

Art of the day! This one is for putri-nih. It's her own original characters from a comic called "Changeling". I really like her characters because the one with the floaty scarf? That's a kid that is part-fairy, based on the "Tennin" legend.

Tennin can fly thanks to their colored or feathered kimonos, called hagoromo ("dress of feathers"), also represented by something I like to designate as "Floaty wavy scarf of awesome". In some legends, tennin are unable to fly without these kimonos (and thus cannot return to heaven). In a Noh play called Hagoromo, tennyo come to the earth and take off their hagoromo. A fisherman spies them and hides their clothes in order to force one to marry him. After some years he tells his wife what he did, and she finds her clothes and returns to heaven.

Yes, this is similar to the story of the Muses in Greek legend. And the story of the swan maidens in western fairy tales. And it was used in the anime "Ayashi no Ceres". It's also really awesome.

I am so glad you don't have to pay, but I also am sad about the sacrifices you still have to make ;.;

Once it's all over, though, it'll be worth it!

It's still going to be something like hours of cleaning and 100$ of laundry, and we are probably doing too much... But I prefer cleaning to much to make sure we get rid of these then cleaning just enough and realizing "LOL bugs still heeere!"

Ugh, that is the pits! I'm happy the landlord is responsible for the cost, though, and not you.

Your artwork is charming, as usual - I especially love that profile in the top-right corner. How cute!

Great, now I really wanna give my room an extra cleaning, especially the tile floors. I wish the entire floor was carpented. >>;
We're responsible for keeping our rooms clean, but as for bug problems, well, that's exactly why we keep our rooms clean in the first place, to PREVENT any bug problems!

Also, that is some cute art. :D I haven't watched Aya no Ceres, unfortunately. D: I HAVE seen the creator's other popular work, Fushigi Yugi.

Urgh. Fushigi Yugi.

I keep picking up series by that woman thinking "Hey this looks cool! She probably won't re-use the same stereotypes again! ...oh wait, there she goes..."

I've been told being clean doesn't prevent bedbugs from coming into your home (since they are blood feeders, like mosquitos. They don't like dirt per se). But it does help you to find an infestation BEFORE it goes out of hand.

Compared to Kagome, Hitomi, the Magic Knight Rayearth girls (other female characters who get swept away to another world), Miaka totally fails.

Tamahome did so much better moving over to Slayers and becoming Zelgadis having to deal with Amelia. ^_- (Really lame joke about the same voice actor for very different characters, yes.)

I still have a love/hate relationship with Fushigi Yuugi. I loved it when I was a teenager, but I really loath it now. Too much teen angst for me, not to mention far too many guys hitting on one girl, who isn't exactly that amazing in the first place. It is pretty amusing how many of the voice actors went on to voice roles in Slayers though.

I...don't think I even knew they were the same voice actor way back in the day. D: I was still new to the anime world and didn't follow voice actors until I was older.

Too much teen angst is right, I totally wanted to strangle the heck out of Yui. Dear lord, did she flip out. =_=;

That's good, I'm sure it's a relief to know you'll be able to be rid of them soon. Cleaning is a pain though, we had to do the same thing with fleas.

I love those kind of stories. Is this Changeling comic online to read? It sounds interesting.

My first draft is :D (the first draft has differences with the second one and personally I think the art for the second draft is better)

The second draft, I can send it to you, but I'm still iffy on uploading it online...however, it might not be a bad idea.

I totally understand being iffy if you're trying to get the story to actually be published. I know with written stories, publishers don't normally accept stories that have been published online. I'm writing a steampunk novel that I would love to show online, but I don't because I would hope I can get this published eventually.

Anyway, here's my email address: jwebster53@gmail.com I would love to read it if you don't mind.

Yay on not having to pay for exterminators! I mean, it really should be the responsibility of the landlord for something like that...

Whoa on the epic cleaning. I dunno if I'd be able to physically do that much cleaning ever! But, I guess you do what you must.

And I am sorry for the loss of Megatron.

Megatron... He was a good plushie. And huge.

It's not the landlord's responsibility for all pests (mainly, they take care of the one in the walls). Things that got brought in by the owner (like fleas) are usually the owner's responsibility. Montréal law, however, includes Bedbugs in what is under the responsibility of the landlord simply because a) nobody knows how they get transmitted and b) It's a huge problem in Montréal, currently, and they don't want to have people not clean buildings because it's too expensive.

Oh that's a fun story :) I like modern bents to old mythological stories! I like the characters to, they look playful and carefree =D

As to the bed bug situation, wahoo no pay for you! And the extra cleaning in the end will give you all kinds of happy warm feelings :P As for Megatron, noooo! 0o Is it too late to grab him up? If he's not been taken away, there is something you can do to kill the bugs without getting rid of your things. You just have to tie him up tightly in a garbage bag and set him in a dark closet for at least two to three weeks. That should kill any of the bugs that may have infested him. They do that for kids toys when they get lice, and I figure bed bugs can't be much different in that aspect :/

Date: 2011-01-06 03:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com
Unfortunately, bedbugs can survive for a year without eating, and can pretty much only be killed by heat. I cleaned the rest of my plushies with the dryer, thus saving them. But Megatron was too big to put in, plus he's basically perfect to be a bug-shelter... so we had to let him go :(

Ick! From what I hear bed bugs are tough to rout, I hear stories that they can spread by finding their way in to baggage and even clothing. O_o But it's good that the landlord is going to flip the bill on it, though it means that everyone in the complex has to be anal about cleaning otherwise they'll resurface.

And I have to say I really like how you do hands! It's tough to get so much natural movement and flow in such a tiny area.

Just think of it as pre-Spring cleaning, so when Spring cleaning comes around, it will be really easy! (Also, I always put on the "Happy Working Song" from Enchanted when I had to get serious about cleaning. It really lightened the mood and made the chore actually enjoyable. Behold, the power of positive music!)

Also, super late comment. I don't know the characters (for obvious reasons), but I find your drawing really appealing. I'm still going to envy how you draw clothing so easily - according to the rough sketchies I see.

Date: 2011-01-07 03:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com
Yeah, I think when spring comes around i'm going to just have to vacuum and dust a bit because we already did all the taking everything out, cleaning, tossing useless things and putting it back. I try to see it this way. Makes me feel better. Because after 12 HOURS of cleaning, not even Enchanted can make me non-cranky... well, not right away at least.

The story is pretty good. When her book comes out, i'll plug you guys!

Hahah! I do love to draw clothing... Seriously. It's so much fun...
