Spirit Day

Yesterday was Spirit Day. A day where people were asked to wear purple in honor of all the lesbian, gay and bisexual people that got bullied and abused because of their sexual preferences. Mainly, due to 6 teens who killed themselves not long ago.
I'm a lucky girl. I never really had to suffer discrimination. Maybe a little due to being a francophone in an english school. But mostly not. However, I have many friends that suffered. So for them, and for all the other people that go to sleep knowing they need to hide and avoid people in the corridors the next morning, I wore a purple coat. And I donated.

Date: 2010-10-21 09:51 pm (UTC)All of the suicides were tragic. But the Tyler Clementi story really got to me. I thank God every day that the internet wasn't big back when I had to deal with really nasty bullying. Kids today have it so much worse! :(
