 ...Stab people?

Lately I really got into the HBO tv series of Rome. It's a pretty fun series. The boxsets are ungodly expensive, but I managed to find them at the decent price (39$ instead of 80$). I bought them mostly for Link, since it's one of his favorites series. And he was feeling pretty down. But I gotta say, i'm loving it myself. It's a bit more adult then most series I watch (Isa likes things for the kiddies), but it's got pretty tight storytelling. I wonder how authentic this series is. Historically, I can see where they took a few liberties. But i'm wondering how accurate is their portrayal of everyday life. It looks pretty researched.

I remember back when I was a kid I was obsessed by the Greek and Roman Hellenistic societies. Because of "Asterix" and Greek myths of course.

I other mythological news, I also watched the "Percy Jackson and the Olympians - The lighting Thieft" movie. I was... Disappointed. Though amused that actors from the Rome tv series appeared in that movie (what a coincidence!) and also Uma Thurman, the movie was kinda meh. The acting wasn't too great. I liked the book a lot better. My imagination made nicer 3d renders. XD

I want to go back into drawing Slayers fanart. My whole friend list is talking about Lina and Gourry and I want to draaaaw them.

And cake! Uh, wait a minute. Oh, dear, I somehow am getting this image of Lina and Gourry popping out of a large cake, fighting over the insides of it. Why neither one of them should ever be in a surprise cake.

Yay, Asterix! A Haitian friend lent me all his Asterix many, many years ago and hooked me on the series. I still have my own copy of Le Grande Traverse.

Eeek! Yes, my French is extremely rusty. I used "le" instead of "la", a very beginner mistake. Apologies!

Maaaan, when I was younger I used to be so totally into Greek and Roman mythology (mostly Greek). I've always had a soft spot for most mythology as it is. Never saw "Rome" though...

It's not a bad series. It doesn't have a lot of mythology, but it's fun to see how the characters worship and respect their gods (cursing someone is reaaaallllyyyyy bad)

I'm so glad I grew up knowing Asterix! Sadly, only from a movie (it had Cleopatra in it), but it's still something.

I've been fascinated with Greek mythology since forever and a day ago, I just always found it interesting. We still use a lot of things that were thought up or created by the Greeks and Romans as well, which is pretty cool. I'm glad we figured out that lead made for bad water pipes though. o_O

Hey, did you ever see Ben-Hur? I suddenly thought of it since a lot of it takes place in Rome (the chariot scene is the best!). It was actually interesting seeing something take place during Rome's occupation of Israel. All things considered, I'm glad Rome fell...

The made the Cleopatra film in live-action too (actually three of the films have been re-made as live actions, but the Cleopatra is by very far the best). That version (and the original) are both incrrdibly hilarious. You really should check out the other movies (and the comics!) It's so much fun!

I've seen Ben-hur when I was younger. Don't rmeember it much though.

That's a beautiful piece. I love the "wind". :)

But yes *waves hand in front of your face* these are not the droids you're looking for. Oops! I mean - you should draw more Lina and Gourry.

I didn't manage to get into the Tudors. It's the same type of show, but I guess the characters didn't reel me in quite as well. The main characters in rome have some serious bromance/teamwork of awesome thing going on.

I don't even know how I learned to do them. European comics have great examples.

Ahh! I've wanted to watch that series forever. And I TOTALLY agree with you re: Percy Jackson. I loved those books and the movie just...lacked charm, for me.

But I mean those books were just epic. Especially since my books rely heavily on Greek myth too. YAY MYTH NERDS. XD

Movie fell flat. End of story. Uma turman's cheesy medusa killed me.

That picture is fabulous! I can't help wondering who that woman just finished off.

I read a ton of Asterix comics for my high school french classes. They were a great way to learn. And WAY more fun than slogging through Le Petit Prince and L'Étranger (btw, I thought both of those books would make sense if I tried reading them in English. I was wrong).

I want to go back into drawing Slayers fanart. My whole friend list is talking about Lina and Gourry and I want to draaaaw them.

Do it!! Doooo it!

The picture is based on the cover of the second boxset. The woman is nobody apparently. They just think it was a pretty idea. And it was!

I SHOULD. Fnart sooon!

Love the series, and your art captures that creepy, bloody yet sophisticated atmosphere perfectly! The red and the wind effects are so simple, but works SO WELL. Awesome.

Cool, another Rome lover!

And thanks, the series is really stylized! I'm glad you think I got it well (this series makes me want to purchase and wear togas)

Ah Rome! I do want to see that series and have heard lots of good things about it :) Mythology has always been fascinating for me, and it's disappointing to hear the PJ and the Olympians was meh :( I was looking forward to that one
