A ride down a rabbit hole...
Apr. 6th, 2010 11:08 pm This started off as a crazy week. My boss' wife gave birth yesterday, so he went on paternity leave. As a result, I got "promoted" and got half of his job on my shoulders. It's definitely more fun then tech support, but considering I have to do his job and mine now... the hours are gonna get long. At least for these next two weeks methinks. It's a little girl though. They don't have a name for her yet, so they just call her "À Venir" for now (french for "To be determined" and a word game that also means "future").
Aside from that, you're probably thinking, "Gee Isa, you haven't posted anything funny in a while. what HAVE you been up to?"
Only the most awesome thing in the universe.
I've been working with dqbunny on a webcomic story. We both work on the story. We finally got the story sorted out. And we have a date for the webcomic to be launched : Sepetember 2010. That's what we are aiming for folks.
What's the story of this webcomic?
The webcomic, called "Namesake" goes as thus : "Did you ever wonder what would happen if you could really tumble down the rabbit hole and reach another world? Namesake is the story of two sisters who discover that traveling between worlds is real and necessary to keep the universe in balance."
The power of traveling thru worlds is passed down thru a name, and those who are named that way are chosen as the "universe" requires to fill out the gaps in the "stories". So you have "namesakes" or Alice (wonderland), Dorothy (Oz), Jack (Jack and the beastalk), Wendy (Peter Pan), Gerda (The snow queen). Various fairy tale worlds and stories are used, and the whole thing is going to be a mix of drama and humor (i'm good at those). The "Namesakes" in the story aren't the "originals" from the fairy tales. They are, if anything, spiritual descendants.
The whole story follows a pre-made plot and will come to conclusion. So it's not an endless comic.
I will post over the next few weeks/months progress on the webcomic pages and sketches in between my other funny day-to-day humor and fandom. I hope you guys are as excited as I am.
Here are the current character designs. It's sketchy, but it's the definitive designs.
Jack :
à
Warrick, the wicked warlock of the west

Wendy and a card soldier :

Alice! Alice was build for SPEED. I wanted her tall, graceful and awesome. and looking like she could beat you in 5 seconds.

And finally, the main character Emma, destined to visit a mystery world.

I know a few people have something against fairy tales stories being re-used and re-told. I hope you guys will be awesome enough to give this story a chance when it hits the web. No matter who wrote it, no matter what the drawings look like, it has a lot of potential. and I hope you guys will be a part of the readers. God knows you are all so encouraging and loving on this journal!
That's all for today folks!

Date: 2010-04-08 04:31 pm (UTC)It's actually been a wonderful education on my end, digging deeper into the stories behind the fairy tales. I've developed a huge love for Charles Dodgson and Alice Liddell, for example. I'm with you - the best reimaginings come when the creator has a true love for the work.

Date: 2010-04-07 01:33 pm (UTC)I'm not really trying to gather cheerleaders *laughs* I guess i'm just really hyped up about the project, and it probably sounds like that in my post. Then again, being hyper about something is what motivates you to work on it.

Date: 2010-04-07 05:40 pm (UTC)I know this type of story won't be for everyone, but I'm glad you're willing to give it a shot! Honesty is appreciated because otherwise we won't grow as writers/artists.

Date: 2010-04-07 04:08 pm (UTC)He won't be dear old "Tarrant" though, the Tarrant version of the Hatter is unfortunately copyrighted to Tim Burton. I'll have my own personal version. Giant hats are a must though.
