Just a little drawing that's been stuck in my head for a while - lightbulb girl and electrikkkkkk man!

In other news, Quebec. Ah, Quebec. Quebec, Quebec, Quebec. I love my province. It's pretty, it's artsy. I'm proud to call myself a french canadian, I love my extra layer of cultural identity. HOWEVER. Quebec seems to be Canada's problem child. I noticed that several Quebec laws differ from laws found in every other province for no obvious reason, except to be different, because then we avoid...assimilation? What is this? The 1760's?

In any case, as it turns out, I have to pay my landlord for the month of October. Because I told him I was ending my lease too late. You have to tell a landlord 2 months (60 days) before the end date in Ontario/Canada... But you have to tell them FOUR MONTHS prior in Quebec. Oh, and also, in Quebec leases do renew automatically, unlike in all the other provinces... WTF, Quebec? A few things my landlord did are still illegal (and I told him) but i'm not getting out of paying for October. Urgh. I hate living in between two provinces. I live in Quebec, then cross a bridge to work in Ontario. The laws and rules change when I cross the bridge. It's confusing on a daily basis.

All I can do is hope he finds a tenant before October, because then i'll be dispensed of paying. Whew. *hopes*

Edit: [livejournal.com profile] snapdragon76 , September sucks for me too. Let's cheat on it together with October. He's sexier. He has Halloween.

No way! You're kidding? That sucks. Maybe you're getting all of your bad luck out of the way for October, which will be full of good luck? It has to balance right?

I like the drawing. They're cute and make me go "Awwww!"

Hopefully, it's going to be balanced. I think I might be less stressed at least, if only because Link calms me down just by being warm and fuzzy.

Four months in advance? Okay, not as bad as, say, a year in advance, but that's still quite a lot! I think I'll stick with having to let my landlord know before the next payment period comes up...

Gah, it is a lot. Especially for young people who don't know where their jobs are gonna be.

Exactly. It's a wonder any young people try striking out on their own at all. Get yourself into a bad situation (sudden job loss near the end of your lease, for instance) and you'll pay dearly. I'm surprised Quebec doesn't update its laws to reflect the times...

:/ Sorry to hear that your getting raped out of your money by Quebec's stupid laws! *growl*

Meh. Maybe he'll find a tenant soon enough and i'll be free!

Seriously? Is that in your contract? I know that if it's not in my contract here, it's not legal.

The contract says 'this lease follows the default housing quebec laws.' It doesn't specify anything, but tells you it follows those laws. I guess it's one of those 'You should have checked that out yourself' things. Before renting the appartment, I read the booklet on the CANADIAN laws of housing. I apparently forgot that 'In Quebec, everything is different!' Live and learn. My province is a problem child.

Uhhhh...I think in the case of lease breaking, Quebec should probably assimilate with the rest of the country. I'm all for preserving Quebec's diverse and unique culture, but that? Four months? IS FUCKED UP.

I agree about preserving the culture. I'm not really sure how different housing laws preserve the culture though. This just seems like an extra layer of nitpicking added just for the sake of being there. I've been told the reason why they are different is because Quebec created Housing laws way before the rest of Canada. But you figure they would alter them later or sometihng. Also, it's really confusing when you live in Gatineau (Ottawa is 30 minutes away!) You're basically riding both provinces.

Totally agree with you. It's like they're using the reasoning as an excuse to be assholes.

I should visit Quebec. =3

Um, why is your landlord still a landlord? In fact, why is he even in the business? >>

Halloween is awesome, but November has Thanksgiving, and December has Christmas, and January has New Year's...

Dude, that totally bites about the rent. From what I read from school, didn't Quebec want to be separate at one point?

Ohhh, threesome with October? I'm all for that!

And I use an icon of Pip, cause he's the only French guy I have...
