Big weekend for me. Link came for a visit. On Saturday, him, me, my buddy Fauve and her fiancé when to eat at a pretty classy (and amazingly delicious!) japanese restaurant with heated tables and cooks who tossed food and made knifes do backflips. It was delicious and impressive. Even if their idea of japanese traditional music is the Inuyasha soundtrack...(It DOES use traditional instruments....who would know aside from anime fans?)
After the food, we were joined by our friend Melissa and went to see Ponyo. Cutest. Movie. Ever.
It's not Miyazaki's best work (several critics and myself agree that it is one of the weirdest and senseless plots miyazaki came up with. Evil Daddy wizard wants to drown the humans at first but is upset when his daughter does it? What? also, his wife is huge.) But it is definitly one of the purest versions of childhood I have seen in a while. The movie is constructed like a kid's dream and the children characters are very much alive (and their moms and super-extra-ultra-badass. Go, Miyazaki Mommies!). So, not awesome. But definitly cute.
I think one of the most memorable things from this movie is Ponyo's greeting - I give you the Full Body Glomp.

You problaby start to enjoy it when you reach puberty.

After the movie, there was desserts and good talking. Me, Melissa and Fauve even managed to score movie posters. Sweetness.
I was also pretty spendy this week. I decided to buy two things I have longued for for a while but didn't buy because both things ranged around $100. The first was a set of 50 watercolor brush pens. I wanted to test them out tonight - so I did. This is a fanart of a fanart. Princess Tutu characters in the style created by

The second uber spendy thing was an iDock (aka, a sound system allowing you to play your iPod)... I've been wanted to buy one for a while, but I was pretty turned off by the square, ugly shapes. Then along came the iBoo, a ghost shaped iDock. It was love at first sigh, and I bought it with Link and Fauve looking at me thinking it suited me. XD
Aside from that - so far this week is a bit of suck. My boss goes on vacation this week so i'm doing long hours until Thursday (and by long I mean like...9 to 12). And on Thursday and Friday we also have to move the office furniture because we are changing location (in the same building, but still. The AC was also broken today, so everyone in the office (and in the building) were turning into small puddles of ooze. It was a weird day.
...and on that note.

Date: 2009-08-19 03:43 am (UTC)I was always interested in getting really nice pens for coloring my artwork, but I could never quite justify the cost. Aside from the subtle colors not being picked up by the scanner, are you happy with the watercolor brush pens?

Date: 2009-08-19 04:35 am (UTC)I really like the brilliant colors in the Lohengrin and Tutu drawing. It surprises me that watercolor (even if it came out of a pen) can look so bright. One of the reasons I dropped watercolor was because I always felt the colors were too thin.

Date: 2009-08-19 05:02 am (UTC)Watercolor comes in different forms, some propose a thicker brighter colors then others. Mainly brush pens and watercolor tube paints. Swatches make for light colors because they are really dependant on the amount of water.
p.s. my scanner also made the drawing a bit brigther.

Date: 2009-08-20 03:20 am (UTC)I have never heard Inuyasha music being played at a restaurant before -- that is great lol. A nice treat for Inuyasha fans too. :D I was so happy to hear they are releasing a new Inuyasha series soon. I've been waiting for that since the first series ended.
Beautiful artwork! I love how the lines flow and the way the colors enhance the effect. Beautiful! <3
