Finished! I finished the 5 pages I had to draw for the comic magazine (the same one that published that mini-comic about the girl and the tree of hands - some of you may recall). The theme this time was *Why do you draw comics?* It's a good question. I think I draw comics for the same reason as I keep getting involved in fandoms and keep this journal updated... First of all, because it amuses me. Greatly. Drawing is really, really fun, for no reason at all. Second, it makes people happy and allows me to meet new people. Seriously, some of you love my drawings so much sometimes It warms my heart. :) Last and not least - I think I use drawings to express myself (DUH). I have a weird imagination and those of you who know me well know i'm not *quite* as well connected to my emotions as a healthy human should be. With drawing I feel I can get the stuff out of my brain and on paper easily. It's awesome that way.

This little five-pager focuses on the communication aspect of why I draw. and yes, there's me in it, since it's suppose to focus on my persona and such.

Yet another comic without dialogues, despite the title being TALKBUBBLE. I think working on Rose (that has no dialogues) have made me used to silent comics. I gotta find some way to insert witty comebacks somewhere, quick!

Now I go do my laundry (yyyyyaaaay?)

Eating paper makes talkbubbles! (A well kept secret). The whole eating paper seems highly symbolic to me since I was a little girl. I saw a thing on tv once about a spy who ate her letters to avoid them being discovered but also because she though it would make her assimilate the knowledge in them better. HOW WEIRD IS THAT?

I love this comic! Some of the strongest comics have no words because the images have to carry it all- which is even more difficult and thus more impressive. :)

It's all in the character's expressions I find! Which is hard in my Rose comic because some of the characters have no faces...

Words aren't really needed in a drawing/comic anyway because you're already drawing what needs to be known. Plus, they trump language barriers since hopefully everyone can derive meaning from images. I'd hope you don't really eat paper (I fear it's not so great for the digestive system!), but the comic is certainly powerful. If only we knew who that guy was. ^_-

It's one of the reasons I work without words - the langage barrier. I want to do things that can be distributed in french and english.

However, I think after Rose i'd be willing to do something dialogue heavy...

I love this comic, the part with her eating paper captures your attention. I think being able to tell a story without words is a great talent to master. Just look at all the Pixar shorts, there are barely any words but they convey so much emotion and story.

Oh, I love the Pixar shorts!! Some of my favorite movie scenes don't have words either. However, in movies you still have music that can replace words...

well, no big rush I still have to write the second serise, all six issues, get at least three to four scripts done for the second anthology, then work up scripts for at least one web comic and on top that develop a new idea for a new comic.....pant...pant..I might get some sleep sometime in the next year

That's ok my english isn't that great, and I was born here. A pin up is a, or can be a sexy lady, but it a full body drawing of a charater, or groups of characters.

here is a link to some pin ups done for the story so far:

You know, I have to say something, and I don't want you to think I'm kissing ass, because I'm not.

But this comic really makes me realise that your artwork is all the way up there. Like, up up there. This kind of obscure, interesting, intricate comic is akin to the masters, and you have it nailed. You make it look easy, which is what true masters do.

The most interesting part is that you're so young, and you have it nailed. You have SO MUCH to be proud of. FLAUNT IT. I'm serious!

Wow, thanks! This is very kind! Sometimes I need compliments like these. It's hard to explain but to me my drawings look normal...Or how should I say? I see them so much that I don't really see the quality behind them anymore. They are just, in my eyes, my normal okay drawings. Thanks for your comment, it really warms my heart! s I mention above, people's reactions are one of the reaons I draw! This is encouraging me a ton! :)

NOT ASS-KISSING

There is nothing normal of average about your drawings. I read alot of comics, both Western and Eastern, and I have yet to see a style that could be construed as similar to yours. You have your own style, your own flow.

You use alot of black ink in your black-and-white, but you make it work, which is unique. Most artists don't know how to do that kind of dramatic inking without ruining the work.

Your watercolours are so nicely done that they look like they're coloured in with cotton-candy, they look so soft and delicate.

While I like your ink work best, your coloured work is also nicely done. You use such vibrant colours, which makes your pieces really warm and fun.

I think the best part, however, is the emotion behind your characters. You know how to make people LOOK like people, LOOK like they have emotions and feelings, even if those looks are ugly (the expressions, not the artwork). You don't shy away from these things for the sake of making something glamourous: you draw it as it is, but also with so much more.

Does any of that make any sense? x.x

If you are looking for some strong drawings from people who aren't afraid to ink, you should check out Bone from Jeff Smith. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_(comics) It's an amazing art and story.

Heheheh, cotton candy coloring! That is the cutest way of describing water color ever.

I put a lot of efforts in my expressions. Possibly more effort than anywhere else. I'm glad you like them so much.

Again, thanks for all the compliments!

Jeff Smith! I remember when he was just starting out, and one was an underground comic, still! He came to my school when I was smaller, and handed out free comics! Now he's huge! *ponders* I really SHOULD get the complete edition of Bone...it even has it in B&W, which I like.

Thank YOU for sharing your art. It's awesome.

I'm impressed. VERY cool. Words fail me...

I know when I saw your drawings on [livejournal.com profile] ichiban_victory's LJ, I was "Wow! Cool drawings! This girl must be a lot of fun and very interesting." which prompted me to want to get to know you better. And I am very very glad I have!
