Urgh.
Urgh. URRRGH!
I tried to draw some comic pages today. Either i'm tired or my talent died but I can't cut a page to save my life. Oh well. There's always tomorrow. I didn't draw much this weekend, being in Montreal and busy being lovey-dovey. But hey, a girl has to do what a girl has to do.
Among the things I want to draw soon there is a lot of fanart, Slayers Gears (aka slayers steampunk), Kapitel des flugues (a Princess Tutu doujinshi i'm trying to take on), more Oz comics, Rose, a 5-page comic for a magazine, a 15 page short comic to include in Rose's advertizement, a few paintings,
ichiban_victory 's doujinshi and
eveshka 's commission. Whew. That's a lot of crap to draw. I suppose I should probably work out a schedule that still allows me to have a social life for breaks and that varies the work I have to do every day so i'm not always drawing the same crap. I think tomorrow's plan is going to be one page of Rose and ending eveshka's commission. Go, Isa, go.
Aside from that, I just bough the secret of Nimh. Did you guys know that they recently released a >family fun< edition... It has games and a choice between the normal movie and the edited for kids version. I guess Nimh is somewhat scary but jeez. They actually have to package it as a child's movie to be able to sell it?
In any case, today's drawing! A lot of people on my F-list have been talking about video games. I'm not really a gamer, but if you talk to me about games, i'll definitely have a weakness for Nintendo things and RPGs. Super Mario RPG used to be one of my favorite games. So all this talk of video games made me want to draw some more humanized Mario items/monsters, like the Bob-omb girl from my dream. Here is the result:

These were really fun to draw. And inspiring! I really want to draw more.
I most likely will.

Well, time for bed. Over and out.

Date: 2009-06-09 07:59 pm (UTC)Some movies can scare kids, but then again I remember the Nostalgic Critic made a point about this when he was talking about the Return to OZ in his Top 11 Underrated Nostalgic Classics Movies list. "I think kids like being scared because it pulls them into the action. If they didn't like being scared they wouldn't go out on Halloween or watch High School Musical."
Kids are far more adaptable and understanding than adults give credit to.

Yep, I do like shoujo-ai, as long as it's written to make sense. Random pairings = MAD OMONI WONDERING WHERE THE PLOT IS.

Date: 2009-06-09 04:54 pm (UTC)I really like Don Bluth's scary part. Even in Anastasia (his most *Disneyfied* work, Rasputine is just awesome.
Aren't the Mario girls some cute you just want to hug them all :D

Date: 2009-06-09 06:36 am (UTC)Don Bluth's films tended to be a heck of a lot darker than his competitor (hint: it starts with a D), but I always liked Secret of NIMH. My older sister even bought it on DVD as soon as she saw it because she loved it as a kid. Makes me wish I'd been able to read more of the NIMH series, but a few books is better than none at all... Oh, and kids these days will probably scare more easily since they don't confront things like good versus evil in their safe kiddy shows so much. We were watching something as tame as Disney's Johnny Appleseed the other day (we being my youngest sister and two of her classmates from DigiPen) and everyone was lamenting that things like angels, the main character singing praises to God, even showing wild animals with the intent to kill the main character...you just don't really get that anymore. Everything has to be all wrapped up in a safe package.
Ugh.
Much luck striking a balance between art and a social life. It really is hard to find middle ground because doing one means neglecting the other. Then again, no one wants to be that anti-social artist who might be downright awesome in talent, but completely socially awkward and without any friends. Yay, life.

Date: 2009-06-11 04:12 am (UTC)I'm amused by the fact that Don Bluth's film did much better on VHS then in theatres. Especially All Dogs go to heaven, that got a tv series and a sequel. But the follow ups don't have Bluth's quality to them. They are much more Disneyfied. I think Bluth must have found it hard to express adult themes in animation because of people thinking it's for kids...
Speaking of the creepy animated, have you seen the trailer for 9?

(I'm going to try to e-mail the final version of Slayers Gears Chapter 3 soon and hopefully I'll be able to get back working on chapter 4. ^_~ )
