....

Yeah

In any case, here's the trip review; some drawings, lots of photos behind the cut!

The overall trip was fun. What I like about Disney is that they focus more on parades, musicals and interactive 3d animations rather then crazy rides. They do have a few crazy rides (like the Everest with the Yeti or the Tower of terror - a 6 floor elevator drop). But I never really cared much for crazy rides, so I was able to do a lot and enjoy myself at Disney world. I'm guessing the whole "more entertainement" aspect of Disney is to please the kids. It certainly pleased me as well.

As an administrator, I was also amazed by Disney's marketing aspect. Every "kingdom" of the part was stylized, had it's characters, and all the shops were full of interesting stuff. My only regret is how the "princess club" (and Pirates of the carribean for boys) took over the whole marketing thing. Even inside a disney part, it was impossible for me to find a Mulan toy. I found a doll, but you had to buy 4 onther princesses to have it. I ended up buying a porcelain statue of Mulan and Shang (very cute). In any case, it seemed "dumber" princesses (like Snow white) had the biggest marketing ever, wherehas princesses who kicked (like mulan) were pretty ignored. Fortunatly, Belle and Jasmine were also important. They are the best of the princess club I find. Though they themselves got a little "dumbed down" in the marketing. Sad really. But I guess it's good for children; little girls need simplified role models in a way. When they grow older, nuances will come into place.

I still bought a bunch of stuff. Especially my CHESHIRE CAT PLUSHY! HAHAHA! I HAVE ONE NOW!

Hard to resist right? Check out this stuff:

I read in a book about Oz how Walt Disney Loved Oz and actually kindoff inspired himself from Oz for the concept of DisneyLand and Epcot (in Disney world). I took a lot of pictures of the buildings in the "magic kingdom". I figured if Oz inspired Disney, Disney might as well inspire my art of Oz.

The weather was crazy HOT. I left canada at a wooping 5 degrees (we left really early, so very cold) and came to florida where the world hit a daily 40 degrees. So we tried to do a lot of indoor activities during the really hot hours of the afternoon. I saw two really cool exhibits; one about Villains and one about various concept art and Walt Disney himself. I loved the Villain exhibit. Villains seem more and more important because they just had an exhibit (the will close soon, unfortunatly for Diane who is suppose to go to Disney next month!), they also have a store (or HALF of one anyways, still needs work), they have their own show (Fantasmic - focuses mostly on villains taking over. Nice fireworks)... Rumor as it... Soon they will have their own kingdom! I read that a fifth kingdom is in the making and "villains" is one of the potential themes. How cool.

They had a few costumes and concept sketches and some props too, including Davy Jone's Orgue. And look; who's this pokémon? :)

There was a lot of concept art of Wall-E in the expo of Walt Disney. Can't wait for this movie.

The expos where in the Hollywood studios section (recently renamed - used to be MGM studios). along with a few really cool shows including Indiana Jones Stunts :

Beauty and the Beast : the musical

Some Wizard of Oz:

I also saw Finding Nemo the musical and Lion King the Musical. I could not take any photos in those, but I gotta say I liked both. The Nemo one had dressed up "humans" manipulating beautiful automatons and puppets of the fish characters. It sounds cheesy typed down, but visually it was extraordinary. Too bad the songs weren't good. Since the original movie has no songs, they invented them for this, and they really aren't catchy. But it's sooooooo beautiful, still worth seeing. Human Dory was hilarious, really hyperactive. I loved her. She had neon blue dreads.

The parades also rocked, it's where I saw most of the characters. I barely met any outside of the parades, which was a bit odd.

I still got to meet stitch though... who tried to steal my hat. And Also Hatter and Alice!

I know why people on the web fell in love with Hatter and Alice; the actors who play them are amazing. Hilarious, they are the most hyper people i've seen in the park and they have great teamwork. If you buy one of those autograph books when you go to disney, buy also a fuzzy pen because seeing them play with the fuzzy pen was downright hysterical. I didn't manage to catch it on film, but it looked a lot like this:

They calmed down when the guy (guard?) with them pointed his watch.

I saw them later in the parade, twirling around. It was great.

Alice x Hatter and Human dory = Isa's Disney Fandoms.

I also saw the studio of my dreams, too bad it was under glass!

And now it's home, sweet home, after a whole mess of airport delays.  Happy, But not yet relaxing; I need to finish a contract, a few drawings and some framing for the 9th of june, which means this week is going to be full of rushing and stressing. And then I really need to start finding a job, or at least some volunteer work in the arts to keep pimping my resumé. I just really want a job T_T

The expos are kinda like a job I guess... But I like the idea of having something 8 to 5 or something...

Oh, tomorrow is my diploma-giving ceremony thing. I get to slap on a toga. Slap!

Wow, Fantasmic. I saw that way back when it was new (over ten years ago!), and while it was somewhat cool, I really miss the Main Street Electrical Parade it replaced. (That parade makes me SO nostalgic!) I think I have the songs for both, should you ever have any interest. The parades are pretty cool, though. We'd usually stop to see them once, then on return trips use the parade times to catch some of the more popular rides (like the then new Indiana Jones ride) because the lines are really small. Mm, Disney...

The doll problem isn't anything too new. I bet they had a ton of Mulan merchandise back when the movie came out. I was at Disneyland the years that movies like Aladdin and Hercules were out, getting things like a Baby Pegasus plush, and they had merchandise EVERYWHERE. On return trips I'd not see such things, except for some of the more specialty items like what you found.

Man, now I'm even more excited to go down there! I won't like the heat, but...it's Disney! I love the seagull shirt, by the way. ^_- (Looks like you managed to cut your hair finally, too.)

That Stitch outfit is so adorable! I'll laugh if I ever get stuck in one of those things.

...You know, I would buy that game. You should save it as a future money making idea. XD

It sounds like you had a blast. You're Disney princess comment reminds me of this drawing: http://mimi-na.deviantart.com/art/The-Non-Princess-Club-24089377

Out of the Dinesy Princess, I really only like Belle and Jasmine. Funny thing is, I rewatched Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" the other day and you know what I realize. Princess Aurora doesn't do much, in fact the movie should be called "The Three Good Fairies" because they're the only good who guys get to do anything. I realize it's probably Disney was trying to make Sleeping Beauty long enough to make into a movie (Sleeping Beauty is a rather short fairytale when you think about it) but it's funny how the main character doesn't get to do much action. @_@

Anyway, I'm glad you found the cheshire cat plushie. Stitch is adorable and it must have been awesome to see Hatter and Alice in persono. I also like the idea of the villians getting their own kingdom. That would be a lot of fun.

Looks like you had a great time!! It's too bad we couldn't have met up in some form. I think it would've been fun! Oh well, perhaps some other time!

And I think [livejournal.com profile] bri_chan draws a lot of Disney and Disney inspired pictures, including Alice and Hatter (which I just don't get, I'm afraid).

And yes, Florida is VERY HOT. I feel like I live in the bowels of Hell sometimes. Ugh!

Wow. I would totally play that game, although Dark Mickey kind of looks like a rabid squirrel. ^_~
It makes me wish that I hadn't gone to DisneyWorld 18 years ago. I barely remember it and wasn't old enough to go on anything fun.

The last time we went to Disneyland was last December. Ah, I wanna go again.

We went on Haunted Mansion: Nightmare Before Christmas and Indiana Jones twice.

I loved Small World and the Finding Nemo: Submarine ride.

Welcome home!! *hugs* We've missed you! And be sure to take silly pictures of you in your toga.

Wow, your post really makes me want to visit Disney World again. It's been a dozen years since I was there - the Tower of Terror had just opened when I last went. My favorite picture that you posted is the older one of Alice encountering the crossroads. I wish there was a print of that one to buy, it is just beautiful. I'm really glad that you had a great time!

I owe you a long e-mail. I got started on some of our project research, etc. while you were gone. Aaaaand, I just ordered that GelaSkin for my iPhone that Magic Pony didn't have. They had a couple that I think you might like, especially this one.

That would be Arizona right before monsoon season as well. ;) I remember those days well from living in Alabama too (and I am considering a move to Orlando, why...?)

Well, Florida also has the humidity which only makes things worse, IMHO. Arizona has more of a dry heat, while uncomfortable, isn't competing with the soul-crushing humidity we have. No wonder kids hardly go outside in the summer.

Factor in the fact that we haven't had any decent rain in quite some time and you have a tinder box waiting to happen. Yippee.

That's one of the reasons I wanna move to Tennessee. It may have it's own shares of weather related issues, but it's more tolerable than here. Plus there are actual SEASONS, which I miss terribly.

Long comment is LOOOOONG! Sorry Isa!

I grew up in south Alabama, so it's the exact same as Florida. That's why when I moved here from Maine and people kept going, "Aren't you dealing with the heat poorly?" and I'd give them odd looks because Arizona heat is far better than Alabama heat.

I lived in Tennessee as well, and yes, there are more actual seasons there ... but I can leave the snow.

Oh, yes, i'd like the songs! I think Fantasmic may have changed a little over the years (or at least added villains), but then again, the newest villain in the group is hades, and he's been around for ten years!

The lines were actually really small for us. The longuest we waited was 20 minutes, and we didn't wait at all for a lot of things. We also bought the fastpass thing, so on rides with longuer wait times then 20 minutes, we'd take a fastpass and retunr on a designated time to come in without wait. It was great.

Everyone wants my mine shirt! *laughs* I dunno why I bothered fiding various souvenirs for my friend; I could have you bought five of those.

Maybe I should... If I ever work at disney (they have already drabbled in the RPG anyways).

In the princess club, I really find the stronguer women (like Belle and Jasmine) to have been a little "stupidafied"...Mulan's is actually part of the princess club too; so where is she?

I really need to watch sleeping beauty one time. I haven't seen it since 1994

I hope you do get to go! However, if you go during the "high tourist season" get a fast pass option and a park hopper option. It reduces your waits for the rides soooooo much. And I was in the LOW season. XD

And yes, it was a NBX-mas bonanza! Unfortunatly, I have a limited amount of stuff I could bring back, so I tried to focus on stuff I knew I might not find here (and jack is popular here, at miss tiggy winkles)

p.s. found a few french sailor moons on amazon.

I'm sorry we could not meet, but I had not brought my computer (my mother banned them, she finds me and my bros are addicted or something of the sort. One of them is actually addicted to online gaming.) so it was hard to communicate with the outside world! Oh well... Next time, next time. Maybe i'll have an excuse to return to florida....when it's cold in canada XD

Impossible to NOT get silly pictures of the toga. The thing looked dreadful. Like I was Frollo from Disney's hunchback.

Does it? Really? It's cute!

I only avoided going on the super-fast rides that are high up on the mountain because I have an innate fear of heights.

Oh, forgot to include we also went on Pirates. *~*

I'll have to be sure to put them on my computer again. For some reason some songs like to disappear...but thank goodness I have them on CD anyway. I'll catch you online one of these days, I just know it!

I'm kind of surprised about the lines, but maybe school was still in session down there. You did go before summer really hits, which is a good thing. We went to Disneyland during the summer one year (I think it's when Aladdin was out), and not only was it HOT, but there were so many people it was hard to get anywhere! Wintertime really is the best time to go, since it's not unbearably hot (it's actually still warm as far as I'm concerned, no snow or anything), but all of the locals think it's too cold out, so it's not that crowded.

I didn't need a souvenir; I've a feeling I'll be finding them the entire time I'm working there. (It's pretty much guaranteed that if I find something Stitch-related, it'll probably be going home with me.) ^_^; Heck, I'll probably be letting people know what I am finding down there. I'll be some secret Disney supplier or something. International smuggler!

You know what, I bet we don't get to see much of Mulan because she is too awesome and Disney is worried she'll outside the other princesses. XD (can you tell I'm a fellow Mulan fan?) It's sad that Belle and Jasmine have been "stupidafied" when they some of the most well known strongest female characters..
