Honestly. That's one of the things I wondered. Maybe I missed out on equaly rude british insults that have similar impact yet seem amusing to me...but this seemed to be the book's biggest swear (probs to molly weasley, who probably created a timeless classic line.) If Harry Potter is for children, this insult seems a bit much... Oh well.
The book itself was good. It was a great conclusion to the series. I honestly hope JK Rowling will keep her word of maybe writting more books about the wizard world, but no more about Harry. The Potter cycle is finished, and to me it finished gracefully and well despite the movies and american marketing.
The book didn't really contain any huge surprises to me. I didn't guess any of the storyline but I felt the story was ending a cycle and therefore followed a style that was now embedded in the fan's mind. The storyline fell well within the ideas set by the other books. No scene made me jump out of my seat. Probably because every scene was well following another. Even character's deaths didn't shock me. Even though sad, since I was attached to those characters, the deaths followed well the plot. It worked. It was a great conclusion.
Lily / Snape. That was something. Fans all of the word predicted it, and probably squealed. I though it was endering and for the first time ever out of 7 books, 5 movies and a ton of fan stuff....I liked snape. Oh, Snape had a few moments, of course (him sniffing out the hidden couples after the yule ball is one) but this scene of the book made me actually feel for the character. Now a snape fan. Just like that. Before that, I never liked him. I was always kinda persuaded he was evil deep down and just didn't kill harry out of dept to dumbledore for saving HIS life. So when Snape became a despot at the beginning of deathly hallows I was pretty much thinking that was his true calling and the end of good Snape forever. Guess I was wrong. But honestly, without the whole Lily deal, i don't think I could have accepted good Snape. Evil Snape had so much more motivation. Lily throws the balance back to good. It even explains a little why he became evil in the first place. Lily Evans, ladies and gentlemans.
Fred, Tonks and Lupin dying. Probably the worse good guy deaths in the book. I feel terrible for george and Teddy Tonks.
Hermione being tortured: though scene. Love Ron.
Ron : as always, spends half the book being a prick and the other half love sick.
House elves : FUCKING ROCK!
The malfoys : I used to hate them. Now I find them pathetic beyond words. Especially Draco. Momma's boy. Coward. He was Harry's nemesis when they were kids. Then going through puberty, Draco forgot to grow balls. End of nemesising. (Voldy's a better nemesis anyways)
The lovegoods: Love Luna, find her father creepy.
Neville : I'm cheating on link with him.
Fleur delacourt: Anyone noticed her middle name was Isabelle? XD Seriously though, future molly! Awesome gal!
Finally, I liked the whole idea of wizards and wands. How "wand users" established a dominance over other magical creatures. I liked how the "greater good" and "pure blood" aspect, that was barely poked at in the precedent books was really all over this one. It gives out a nice social criticism I find. ^_ ^

There. Left plenty of space in between spoilers and this text for those who wish not to see them. Just avoid the Lj cut.
So what else is new? I'm sick right now. A small throat allergy seems to have turned into a giant I-kick-your-ass throat and sinus cold that allied force with the time of the month to best me. It got so bad, I actually called in sick at work. I never call in sick. It's so rare, when it happens people just KNOW i'm dead in a gutter somewhere. Bah. At least it was just a 3 hour shift I was missing. So it's cool. ^_ ^
I spent most of the day dead on my couch watching scrubs. Got up to draw eventually. Drew a bunch of Oz pages. I felt rather inspired and light headed, so the drawings are a bit rushed. Hope you still like them.
I went to montreal last week to finally visit Link's new appartement. Appartements are less expensive in montreal then toronto. AND THEY ARE BETTER! Link did a really nice job on the place. Painted it, fixed it up. Even built some carved selves everywhere! The Toronto appartement never felt like home because the boys weren't allowed to paint or change much. In montreal, Link was free to do whatever he wanted. As a result, the appartement really feels like home.
I love how all the appartements in Montreal are half-houses and you have to climb winding staircases to get to them!
Also : Montreal as kitties everywhere.
Link spent 3 weeks in his appartement alone without his brother (who had left for BC to go work for 2 months) or any form of communication since the internet and phone could not be up before then (talk about a ripoff still). He saw a bit of his family a few days before I visited. Then he saw me. I think he was a bit crazy a first because of the lack of seeing people followed by (zounds!) people XD But it was still great to see him.
I was talking to tama and it made me realise how living in quebec is less expensive then Ontario. You usually pay less for similar living conditions.
Speaking of money... In september, I start my final year of school and my second internship. I'm a little worried that with work i'll barely have time to have a life. I decided that I would try to find a job on campus (which pays more then Tim Hortons and is completly adapted to your schedule) or if I can, ask my boss to only have me work one shift a week. I'm a bit tired of minimum wadge jobs. I always feel I barely get anything for hours of work. But I guess a student job is the best I can hope for, for now. I don't really want to quit Tims unless i'm offered a campus job because I don't have the time to learn a new job right now unless it's worth the pay. I had a few offers in stores close to my house, but they pay less then my current job if you count tips. So, despite how much i'd probably prefer to work with books or clothing then food (I hate working with food), I'm still going to stick to the plan of campus job or reduced time at Tims. I'm sticking with these options because I know a campus job would suit my needs idealy. However, Tims is very flexible, I know it well and I can quit it without feeling terrible if the work load becomes horrid.
Tomorrow i'm going at the U to fill in some graduation related papers and find out about jobs.
Anyways, enough life XD Here's the follow up of the OZ comics! (Yes finally) If you need a refresher, the last post was here: http://secondlina.livejournal.com/47955.html#cutid1
ENJOY!

Date: 2007-08-01 06:30 am (UTC)Gah, you're suffering the W.o.E. as well? Thank goodness I'm not sick right now, but I've been sick plenty of times during the W.o.E. to know they're the deadliest combination. I hope you feel better soon.
As for Oz... I love Lina's outfit! (Considering how anti-dress I am, that's saying something.) Also, Renge looks really cool in the panel when she's thinking (putting her hand to her face), but she's so cold... Hard to see her as a good character when her actions seem to point at some other motive. Makes one wonder. What's worse, for better or for worse, Anlise is plotting with her! But darn these cliffhangers... Who's the wild (and crazy) female to jump out of the bushes? Is she the 'lion' in this story? ^_-
I'm babbling... But! I love that last panel, too, so rushed or not, the drawings are still very impressive. (They in turn inspire me more! ...sadly I have work in the morning, so nothing will come of the inspiration..yet.)

Date: 2007-08-01 01:54 pm (UTC)Lina's dress is awesome. I was wondering what kind of outfit she would have in this world. And I see that Renge and Anlise are starting the "Will use Dorothy to kill the witch plot." Which reminds me, I wasn't sure if you knew but, the third issue of Cheshire Crossing came out: http://www.cheshirecrossing.net/
And I'm guessing that the Lion there is Inu-yasha.

Harry Potter comments: I vaguely felt bad about the good guys' deaths, but not weepingly so, probably because they really weren't the central characters. I was pleased I had guessed correctly about Snape, based on the conversation Harry overheard between Dumbledore and Snape in the 6th book. To me it was obvious, but I knew I could be wrong.
