Welp. My stomach decided it was out to get me again, so i'm spending the evening on my couch instead of working. Oh well.

I worked on one of my presentations. This one is about the history of manga. It was actually quite interesting. Especially all the reading I had to do about Tezuka and the Year 24 group (aka father of manga and mothers of shojo manga). There's some people out there who were badass artists. I kinda wish I was the reincarnation of one of them, or something *laughs* Theses guys pretty much created all the motifs still used in manga and defined the type of paneling and shots used.

I downloaded the first episode of the new show "New Girl". It was free off itunes. I was curious. I still haven't watched it because... the commercials for it honestly scare me. The premise of the show seems to be "SHE'S A GIRL. THEY ARE BOYS. THIS WILL BE GLORIOUS AND HILARIOUS FOR THIS REASON ALONE. also, she's nerdy." This seems very.... weak? I guess it's a sitcom, I should not expect much, but since it's the type of marketing they went for, it amazes me that such a basic and kinda sexist premise still attracts so very much. I honestly hope the show is better then it's marketing.

For a commission, a couples asked me to draw them as Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I'm quite proud of this one!

Ugh, I try to avoid all sitcoms at all costs. Even dramas are too much. I'm already angry at Big Bang Theory and they're better than most.

Season 4 made Big bang go back up in my esteem. I was pissed off at them during season 2. I got over it because yeah, they are better then most.

Awwww, that's a cute pic! The rose is gorgeous, too.

Also, I'm so so so sorry about your tummy. Do you know what's causing it?

And, The New Girl sounds kind of dull. Maybe it'll get better with time?

I'm gonna go with "our bookstore is next to a clinic and sick kids get sent here to read by their bored parents" as the cause of said illness. Must buy purell.

I still need to give episode 1 a chance, but the advertisement just.... isn't encouraging.

But here's the question: Does a reincarnated person retain the skills and abilities from their past life? ;) (And it's not a serious question.) The thing with being a trailblazer, since you are creating a new path, of course those who come after are going to follow. That's just the way we are. If you found a new path in the art/comic world, I'm sure generations to come will also follow after you.

I hope things have calmed down for your insides today. Or if not today, soon. Nothing worse than being waylaid from artistic endeavors by internal issues.

If anything, I think passions probably are passed down from one life to another :D

The changes Tezuka made are just... so cool! He's one of the first to integrate cinematographic techniques in Japanese comics and play with the framing. Others did it before him, but they got censored/killed by the government or the war, so no one really got the freedom to push it as much as he did before him.

Listen up, Isa's stomach! Behave yourself and leave Isa alone!!

And I've seen the first ep of 'New Girl'. It's pretty cute, if a little quirky. I think it tries to be a little TOO quirky at times. Still, Zooey Deschanel is very cute.

Aww, I love the couple as Beauty and the Beast! Speaking of which, whatever happened to the one project you were working on with the gender-swapped Beauty and the Beast? That was an interesting premise.

At least it's cute. I'll still give it a chance, but man, i,m tired of stereotypical gender roles, you know?

That project is still around, it got pushed back due to two current projects I need to get done for the next TCAF.

Hope your stomach feels better soon.

I saw some promos for New Girl and....it looked really, REALLY stupid. The commercials were a huge turn off. They reminded me of the trailers for the movie She's All That ("LOOK! This hot actress is now an ugly and nerdy social pariah because she wears glasses and dorky clothes and has a weird personality!! But everyone will automatically LOVE her if she gets contacts and puts on a slinky dress!!").

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUURGH NOT SHE'S ALL THAT THAT FUCKING MOVIE WHY?

I'm all for stories that play with the difficulties of living with roomates, but they don't have to push the gender roles that far, you know? Subvert. Subvert. It's funny to subvert!

Look on the bright side. At least She's All That inspired a pretty funny parody movie. ~_^

I get the feeling that New Girl is going to be marketed as a self-insertion fantasy for lonely, single women. Think about it: An "unattractive nerdy girl" (by Hollywood standards, anyway :P) gets to live in a nice apartment with 3 smoking hot guys who are able to give her a stylish makeover while still retaining their heterosexuality (translation: romantic drama ensues and the audience can ship the chick with any of the dudes).
It'll be like a less funny American version of Ouran Host Club!

Yeah, but Ouran was a mockery of the genre. This just seems to over indulge it.

That does sound rather shallow :/ Likely will suck!

Loving the B&B pic! That dress is just fantastic! Love the adoring glances between lovers as well :)

I love how poofy the dress turned out. I just want to wrap myself in it.

Zooey Deschanel is really cute, but I don't know that that's enough to carry a show. I haven't watched The New Girl, but the commercials don't make it look very good. It gives the impression that the show is really trite.
