Some of the cutesy drawings, and my sign! Lady with a plasma gun. What's not to love? People at the con had mad tats. The prize for the best Astrid goes to this girl. Our table with Adriana, my favorite caramel beauty full of fluffy loveliness. Lots of people dressed as these two. Love it. Sarcastic Chiseri would move all over the place. Look! I,m actually working. :D And the prize for Best Dressed Namesake fan goes to THIS GIRL. Who let me hold her umbrella. I had this Batman drawing as one of my "cutesy drawings" sample. Everyone wanted to buy it. So I re-drew Batman like 20 times. SEE???? A minion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Small but fancy. This group was adorable. they were a group of international friends working on a story together. They asked me to draw their characters. It was lovely. Some of their characters were a lesbian couple. Very cute! Obligatory Doctor. Also, there was a Burlesque Star Wars show. FOR REALS. Potter tragic couples. Award for the best Ginny goes to this chick. Award for best Gender-bender. APPA APPA YAY! Ron and Hermione. D'aaaaw. Another sample I ended up giving to an artist I loved. Namesake characters, as drawn by the fantastic Katie Cook. And finally, a Link.

Hey guys! I'm back! Sorry for not posting while I was gone. The hotel charged us something like 40$ per night for the internet. It was outrageous. I was gone to Fanexpo up to monday at 3am. It was fun. Met cool people, got to meet Jeff Smith, got a portfolio evaluation from Marvel and got a really cool book about period costumes. We met a couple of Namesake fans who, I swear, have the best costumes, including a Tardis Lolita.

We didn't sell that many books, unfortunately. I think this con was more for small, cute commercial goods. Which is why, on the second day, I was struck with a stroke of genius, and started offering cutesy 5-minute-directly-in-ink-whatever-you-want-as-long-as-I-know-what-it-is-or-you-have-a-reference for 2$ drawings. Those were really popular, easy and fun. We sold a lot. I'll post a couple of the ones I did in the photos below. Be warned, I was asked to draw a lot of Harry Potter.

I drew a LOT LOT LOOOT more. These are just my favorites.

When I got home, I had to work my butt off to finish the Womantology pages in two days. I just got that done. Whew. A break.

Finally. In other news, you guys may have heard me gushing about the upcoming movie "A Monster in Paris". Well, good news. The movie is getting an English release. The dubbing seems really good, and i,m happy they kept Vanessa Paradis as the voice actress for the songstress in both languages. This means that we are getting a cool French animated movie overseas and that, living in Québec, I get to choose between the French original or the dub. Yaaay!

The english commercial is so different from the French, it weirds me out. In the French we learn that : Paris is under water. The monster is a bug grown huge by mistake by the male protagonists. The bug and the songstress sing together. Pretty songs are sung. The police dude wants to kill the monster, who is in fact, nice. A wild hot air balloon chase follows.

The english trailer : funny people, funny people, MONKEY MONKEY LOOK A MONKEY, funny people, animosity which is obviously love, background music and hey, by the way, there might be a monster in there. Behold, the difference.

Well, that's all for now.

Looks like fun. Lots of drawings; pretty clever idea. And you got a pair of drawings from Katie. That's all kinds of awesome.

Yes, the two trailers are so different. If it was based just on viewing the second, I don't think I'd be as interested. Between the two, it's hard to tell who the main protagonist is. I'm taking the third option and going with Lucille. Kinda eh about Fancoer being named Frank, but I can probably live with it. I'm still looking forward to the film. Now, to know if it's a major release or limited/touring release (if later, I start bugging the Capri, the independent theater here).

The English trailer really... doesn't tale you what the story is, at all! It's just all about the monkey.

Oh! There's a Katie Cook in there!

So did you sell a lot? Was it worth being there economically? (we all know it's worth being there for fun!)

That trailer sounds like American advertising at it's finest.

I have to say the French trailer looked more intriguing.

That was a good idea to offer drawings for cheap. Not everyone has or wants to spend a lot of money, but a bit here, a bit there, and before you know it, they've spent all their money anyway. (At least, that's what happens to my money at cons!)

I'm glad that Chiseri was a hit. Definitely will have to up production in the future. ;)

(I think everyone assume English-speakers are stupid. We don't go to movie theatres for deep experiences! We go to see completely stupid and random comedy! So....yeah. I would rather see the movie in French anyway - with subtitles! - because I really prefer seeing something in its native language. Not having the "mouth flaps" match up with the spoken dialogue drives me crazy! ...because I like to watch the animation, so sue me...)

I figured people were more then happy to spend 2$ to get an adorable portrait or a drawing of their characters (many people asked for this)

You made the Chisiri plushies, Diane? If you are going to be making more, is there any chance I could order one from you? Only if you plan on making more, however...

From: [identity profile] ichiban-victory.livejournal.com
I did make them, but I'll have to ask [livejournal.com profile] secondlina if it's okay to make more. I'm not going to make them just to make them, as Chiseri isn't my character to sell/market. But if she's okay with it, then I could easily make more. I saved my pattern. ;)

If you want a Chiseri to cuddle and thrown and have on your shoulder (which is pretty awesome), it would be 30$ (this pricing includes shipping). You can transfert the money to my paypal account (associated with the email secondlina (at) gmail.com). Please let me know the type of facial expression you want for Chiseri (you can pick an image from the comic, or just one out of the three we currently have - happy, sarcastic or shouting) and the shipping address in your paypal note.

I,ll forward the info to Diane and she can start working on building your very own sidekick!

Half the money goes to diane, and half to Namesake, so you're supporting two awesome things in one swoop.

Man, you guys are totally trying to rob me of all my money. It's totally worth it though, lol!! :B

I may have to do some financial figuring before I place a 'formal' order (stupid bills), but rest assured, one is definitely coming!! I think I'll pick a happy Chisiri.

Wish you had sold more books. But cute $2 ink sketches was a great idea!! They're so adorable!

Wow. I just watched both trailers. That is quite a difference! Even if I didn't understand any word of the french one, it was definetly pushing a different angle than the english.
Wish I knew how to speak French...sounds so pretty.
oh god please let this be a Beauty and the Beast story. I'm such a sucker for those.

Oh wait a minute - I just found out the inventor's name is Raoul! If this ends like Phantom of the Opera I will be severely unhappy! XD
I ship her and the monster. already.

From: [identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com
Heh, she probably won't end with the monster, since the monster is a giant insect. I just hope her and Raoul aren't as fighty as the english trailer makes them seem because i,m tired of the whole "animosity, it most be love!" deal.

Good point about the giant insect thing XD
But ya, the bickering between Raoul and Lucille will get old fast if it's anything like the english trailer.

Welcome back! I'm so glad you had fun! You got to meet Jeff Smith? Aw man, I love him. From my home state, you know. I love your wee drawings! Man, you kick my ass with your awesomeness! I don't think I could do that ever.

I would love to go to a con one day. Le sigh...

I was really happy to hear that we're getting an English release of A Monster in Paris, but seriously disturbed by the differences in the previews. I saw the French preview and I loved it, but the English one looked frankly lame. That narrator... who are they fooling? Do they really think American audiences won't like or understand a different view of the same film? Drives me nuts. But the movie itself looks amazing.

Did you happen to get my parcel yet? I put something in there for you.

Those pictures were fabulous! Thanks for sharing them!
Offering cheap, quickie drawings was a really genius idea. I bet lots of artists are going to start stealing it now.

As for that trailer...as an American, I wonder if I ought to be offended that the people who made it seem to think that we'll only see a movie if the trailer screams "MONKEY! SNARKY CHARACTERS! PAINFULLY OBVIOUS ROMANCE!!CAR CHASES!! OMG!MONKEY!!"

And having the original French actress in the English dub isn't necessarily a good thing (see: Persepolis dub). But it didn't seem to be a problem in the trailer, so I'll wait until I see it to judge it.

Vanessa paradis has actually done a couple of things in english too, she's pretty decent. I trust it will be good. except that she will be the only French folk with an accent (It's Beauty and the Beast all over again!)

Unless the monkey has an accent.

S-someone should make a Warrick plush. I would steal buy it in a heartbeat. And so many cute doodles! I love them<3

Honestly, I kind of like the French commercial more. It seems to focus on the actual movie, instead of putting a bunch of funny moments in to snag the audience's attention.
