Another print done. I'm not sure if I prefer it with purple or red. Which one do you guys think is better? All behold, a better version of my skeleton king. 





This kinda reminds me of the story of Jack-o-Lanterns.

An old Irish folk tale tells of Stingy Jack, a lazy farmer who uses a cross to trap the Devil in a tree by tricking the Devil into climbing an apple tree and quickly carving crosses in the trunk.

Jack only lets the Devil go when he agrees never to take his soul. Later, Jack dies but is too sinful for Jack to go to heaven. The Devil had promised not to take his soul, and so he was barred from hell as well. Jack now had nowhere to go. He asked how he would see where to go, as he had no light, and the Devil mockingly tossed him an ember that would never burn out from the flames of hell. Jack carved out one of his turnips , put the ember inside it, and began endlessly wandering the Earth for a resting place. He became known as "Jack of the Lantern", or Jack-o'-Lantern.

I'm kinda looking forward to work tomorrow because OH MY GOD, THE HEAT. The bookstore has air-conditioning. This week, I mostly just sweated and colored in Photoshop (because sweat and liquid ink on paper is a no-no) so I wasn't really productive. And when i,m un-productive, I usually feel guilty about it. Tsk tsk. I give myself a hard time. It's awful :P

The top have seems to have more fitting colors. :)
I've heard the heat is indeed pretty crazy around there - here, it's raining all the time. :/

I like the lower image better, but probably because you used contrasting colors (red and green), so things like the skeleton's eyes and the girl's necklace stand out more against the inner lining of the cloak. I suspect if you changed the upper skeleton's eyes to a more yellow color (perhaps the girl's necklace as well), it'll have the same effect, thus making my eyes happy. ;)

I always found that story strange, not because of Jack's fate, but because people used to carve turnips. They're so small! It's no wonder people quickly switched over to pumpkins once they were available, thus altering Halloween decorations forever. Can you imagine seeing turnips plastered everywhere for Halloween?

Hey, you weren't unproductive! I'd not have been able to accomplish my task without your needed input, so there. ..okay, so yeah, maybe personally you weren't productive with your own stuff, but the heat wave can only last so long. Just remind yourself that in a week or so, you'll have blue bits of ammo to play with. And hopefully cooler weather will come with them, thus more productivity.

Hrm. I think they both look good, which isn't very helpful. I like the purple, because overall it feels like it fits the tone of the piece. On the other hand, I feel like the details (her wings, the interior of the cloak, etc) pop more with the red tone /:

The purple one works better. The temperature variation/contrast adds more depth. If you go with the bottom one, it might work better with a darker background tone to make the characters pop forward. ?

Hmm, for some reason I like the purple one, but it's so hard to choose!
ugghh I hear you about the heat. It's so friggin hot over here too. My sister left her apartment to stay at our house because it has air conditioning.
Colouring in photoshop is productive in my opinion! And it looks like it takes a lot of work.

Both pictures look good. But I think I like the purple one just a little more. The red one looks a little faded by comparison.

I like the coloring on both, actually. It works in different ways. I guess I would say I like the coloring on the more reddish one the most, but I like the vibe the purple gives off as well.

I like the feel of the purple picture, but for a second, I didn't see her wings until I looked at the red picture. Gah, I don't know what's wrong with my eyes. >.< It kinda seems like her wings should be a little lighter so you can see the detail of the inking a little more, because I can see it better in the red picture. WTF why do I suck at art-words so much. I need to do more research.

I'm partial to the second one - I love the red-mauve-y tones to it. Of course, that mauve color happens to be my latest favorite color.

I didn't know the story behind 'Jack o' Lantern' before this! I always loved these old tales ;)
