It's weird...Lina is a very happy character, and yet I always seem to draw her in these very sad poses...
God. I. Want. Her. HAIR! >_>
I,m currently working on two things: the slayers booklet and my living room. My living room is being completly revamped, and so far, my dad and I do most of the work (nevermind the fact that I have two strong brothers!)
The whole living room/dining room just got finished being re-painted white. The smell is strong. Most likely because my hair is covered in it.

The slayers booklet is being finished (although not that fast right now. Priority on the house for we are in need of a place to sit and eat) and I still need an idea for a cover page. I'm also calling out to the slayers fans who read here: do you guys want to suggest me a short (8 to 10 comic page aka maybe 500 to 800 words) story to add in? I'm thinking because most of the material is of utter siliness, a good dramatic story would be a nice touch...
Then maybe i'll also make a short art gallery in it too...

Beautiful picture.

I always thought that Lina was a happy character, too. But then, we never really see her in private after a huge trial. I mean, surely she needs SOME time to adjust to things. And even then, when it comes to hard stuff, it must be difficult.

I like how you manage to capture her emotion, like I'm always trying to do on paper with words. Although when I actually scribble a picture of her, she either looks sad or shocked o.O;.

I think we see her sometimes in private after a battle. She usualy denies herself the sadness of a situation I think. Like sadness is a weakness. So I guess Lina is a really happy character that's somewhat hiding an incredible amount of darkness and pain (you don't walk around carrying the LON and get away with it unscared even though huge piles of darkness seem to be short-term memory-affecting)

This would be, as you said, probably one of Lina's adjusting moments. I really love this drawing ^^

Reh, I admire fanfic artists. I usually write fanfics bad. It's weird that other people seem to have that sad-lina compulsion as well, even in fanfics (always so serious!)

One artist that does the best "sad linas" I know is probably Eugene Chung. She is a zel/lina pairing supporter and I think pairing Lina with our favorite depressive rock is making the darkness in the character stick out.

I explored the not-necessary sad Lina angle in "Darkstar," but a Lina trying to deal with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm like you - it fascinated me that Lina never really seemed to suffer emotional consequences of her actions, though I think there's a bit more of that in the novels because it's told from Lina's POV. It's like you were telling me in my LJ, I think Lina has a tendency to bury the bad feelings and not deal with them. "Darkstar" is set roughly 18 months after the Hellmaster Phibrizzo incident and a year to 18 months is usually when PTSD sets in, according to the research I did when writing that part of thr story. I think out of all of the stuff that Lina experienced in the series, Phibrizzo was the most scarring of them because of how he used her feelings for Gourry like an emotional kickball, as well as the fact that he basically killed everyone she cared for right before her.

Whenever she will crash, Lina will crash extremely hard.

Wow, I need to read some more of your fanfics. Where do you put them? they sound pretty well-researched.

Lina is the type of character that crashes hard, and then keeps tumbling down until something or someone pulls her out. Although if she does sink in depression, I see Zelgadiss being the one pulling her out (in a friend way, not a pro zel/lina way by obligation)because lina would not want to involve her more joyous compagnion Amelia and even less Gourry. She would not want to involve Zel either but zel is most likely really good at recongnising repression and depression being an expert an all.

I read Eugene's manga, the watered-down one, and I have to admit, it was really well-done. Zel and Lina is not my favourite pairing, but the way he did it seemed to make sense, in a morbid sort of way =3.

I wish I could be a better writing. The problem with my writing fanfics is that I just end up changing the characters. I'm a really shitty fanfic writer. x.x

Eugene is pretty much the one that mad eme like zel/lina in the first place. However, Eugene is a girl. Eugene is a contraction of her actual name Yuu shin (she's korean I think)

I'd have to check out your fanfic writting capacities. Where do you store the writtings in question?

Whoops. I guess because the name Eugene is generally used for men, I assumed. Assumption is not my friend, no matter how much I try.

My writings are evil. I'm embarrassed by them, especially when I'm around [livejournal.com profile] dqbunny, [livejournal.com profile] zannechaos and [livejournal.com profile] the_flowergirl.

You want Lina's hair. I want Lina's jellyfish. ^_^

That is a beautiful picture, but the writer in me wants to know what happened to her left arm.

As for the booklet, I think keeping the silliness isn't such a bad thing. I want to see how the "get Zel naked" arc turns out. My favorite out that is still probably Sylphiel's role in it. Though Lina's reaction to everything was priceless as well!

When I was writing chapter 11 of "Search for the Darkstar," I was writing a moment with Lina's hair whipping around her in the wind. I kept thinking of your icon and giggling.

I'm not sure about the left arm. It's kinda like veins, but at the same time, it looks like cracks. I was basicly trying to draw some kind of affliction, or infection, somewhat linked to magic.

I really like to zel gets naked arc. For some reason, that spurred into a story and gave people an immense laughs. I don't really mind stiking to the funnies, but at the same time i'de love to try to draw something short and sad (all my sad stuff tends to expand terribly)

Wind: part of the hero's basic fashion kit.

*stares at plotbunny* Go away. *bats at plotbunny* I said go away! *kicks plotbunny several feet. Plotbunny comes bouncing back* No, no, I said go...aw, shucks. Plotbunnies are like cats. They keep coming back to you.

The way my plotbunny sees it, that's an infection linked to Lina's magic. A side effect of utilizing a power that humans aren't meant to have. Airlord's power probably because it eats away at humans if they overuse it and Lina has the tendency to overuse her magic. Or, it could also be linked to the Chaos Magic she uses - Ragna Blade for example. And this infection not only scares her half to death, but it terrifies Gourry as well.

Funny that you see that sort of infection in this drawing because one of my personal stories has a character that is litteraly being devored by a dark spell and has an arm that is infected almost completly. The arm is demonic and can do a lot of cool things but is irritable to things like water. It makes the character suffer a lot.

Though, it's kinda the classic scenario for this kind of picture. I need to find a few old pictures I had done for the "Goodbye Gourry" series. It was a series of drawings illustrating a story where Lina turns into a darklord and gets stabbed by the sword of light and then she is back to normal but gourry is gone. So Lina travels with the sword of light to find Gourry's shattered soul.
That story was never really written down.

I've got a plotbunny that's a little similar to that. After the events of NEXT, Lina and Gourry are returned, but they are on opposite sides of the continent. Lina winds up with her family in Zefielia and Gourry is with the others in Sairaag. They have to find each other again, not knowing if the other is even still alive.

That story sounds angsty and awesome of yours.

Lina's hair is awesome! Maybe you should do a gallery of all the hair styles she could do. LOL

Lina is a very happy character, and yet I always seem to draw her in these very sad poses...
It is interesting to see an emotion that isn't normally on a character. As you said, Lina is always happy, so when she's sad it's just something you can't ignore. If it was just a drawing of a regular happy Lina it probably wouldn't instantly grab your attention as much.

I can't wait to read the booklet when you're done. I want to find out how the Zel naked arc ended. A dramatic story would probably be a good idea. It would give the booklet a nice balance with the silly.

I've been told before that I drew Lina's hair very well. I love drawing long hair like hers ^^

True about the attention grabbing. This drawing is much more intense. Yet, despite the sadness, I don't really feel solitude in it.

I can't wait to be FINISHED with the damn thing. I need people to try writting me some serious snippet. I'm more of a silly-thinker ^^

WOW O_O I think I don't have any better to say. I really like this this drawing of yours... And maybe Lina is usually a "happy-go-lucky" girl, but as we've seen in NEXT sometimes she shows herself like this to avoid making her firends be worried about her. I can easily imagine Lina as you have represented her, when she is alone...

Yeah, it's like an inside image of the character or something.

I'm very proud of this drawing.
