Sad Lina...

It's weird...Lina is a very happy character, and yet I always seem to draw her in these very sad poses...
God. I. Want. Her. HAIR! >_>
I,m currently working on two things: the slayers booklet and my living room. My living room is being completly revamped, and so far, my dad and I do most of the work (nevermind the fact that I have two strong brothers!)
The whole living room/dining room just got finished being re-painted white. The smell is strong. Most likely because my hair is covered in it.
The slayers booklet is being finished (although not that fast right now. Priority on the house for we are in need of a place to sit and eat) and I still need an idea for a cover page. I'm also calling out to the slayers fans who read here: do you guys want to suggest me a short (8 to 10 comic page aka maybe 500 to 800 words) story to add in? I'm thinking because most of the material is of utter siliness, a good dramatic story would be a nice touch...
Then maybe i'll also make a short art gallery in it too...

Date: 2006-08-10 05:31 am (UTC)I always thought that Lina was a happy character, too. But then, we never really see her in private after a huge trial. I mean, surely she needs SOME time to adjust to things. And even then, when it comes to hard stuff, it must be difficult.
I like how you manage to capture her emotion, like I'm always trying to do on paper with words. Although when I actually scribble a picture of her, she either looks sad or shocked o.O;.

Reh, I admire fanfic artists. I usually write fanfics bad. It's weird that other people seem to have that sad-lina compulsion as well, even in fanfics (always so serious!)
One artist that does the best "sad linas" I know is probably Eugene Chung. She is a zel/lina pairing supporter and I think pairing Lina with our favorite depressive rock is making the darkness in the character stick out.

Date: 2006-08-10 07:37 pm (UTC)Lina is the type of character that crashes hard, and then keeps tumbling down until something or someone pulls her out. Although if she does sink in depression, I see Zelgadiss being the one pulling her out (in a friend way, not a pro zel/lina way by obligation)because lina would not want to involve her more joyous compagnion Amelia and even less Gourry. She would not want to involve Zel either but zel is most likely really good at recongnising repression and depression being an expert an all.

As for the booklet, I think keeping the silliness isn't such a bad thing. I want to see how the "get Zel naked" arc turns out. My favorite out that is still probably Sylphiel's role in it. Though Lina's reaction to everything was priceless as well!
When I was writing chapter 11 of "Search for the Darkstar," I was writing a moment with Lina's hair whipping around her in the wind. I kept thinking of your icon and giggling.

I don't really mind stiking to the funnies, but at the same time i'de love to try to draw something short and sad (all my sad stuff tends to expand terribly)
Wind: part of the hero's basic fashion kit.

Date: 2006-08-10 10:35 am (UTC)The way my plotbunny sees it, that's an infection linked to Lina's magic. A side effect of utilizing a power that humans aren't meant to have. Airlord's power probably because it eats away at humans if they overuse it and Lina has the tendency to overuse her magic. Or, it could also be linked to the Chaos Magic she uses - Ragna Blade for example. And this infection not only scares her half to death, but it terrifies Gourry as well.

It was a series of drawings illustrating a story where Lina turns into a darklord and gets stabbed by the sword of light and then she is back to normal but gourry is gone. So Lina travels with the sword of light to find Gourry's shattered soul.
That story was never really written down.

It is interesting to see an emotion that isn't normally on a character. As you said, Lina is always happy, so when she's sad it's just something you can't ignore. If it was just a drawing of a regular happy Lina it probably wouldn't instantly grab your attention as much.
I can't wait to read the booklet when you're done. I want to find out how the Zel naked arc ended. A dramatic story would probably be a good idea. It would give the booklet a nice balance with the silly.

Date: 2006-08-10 11:47 pm (UTC)True about the attention grabbing. This drawing is much more intense. Yet, despite the sadness, I don't really feel solitude in it.
I can't wait to be FINISHED with the damn thing. I need people to try writting me some serious snippet. I'm more of a silly-thinker ^^
