Lines!

So, I found a neat new pen brand to try out. It's basically a calligraphie pen, but instead of dipping it in an inkpot, it has a cartridge in it and comes in several sizes (my favorite being ultra-thin). In a way, using a cartridge pen is kinda lazy and expensive for no reason I guess, but I love how practical it is. I can carry these a lot easier then an ink pot. So far, the results are pretty good! So I might buy other sizes.

I drew Agha, the munchkin character from Namesake and Aang and Katara with it. Everything is adorable and classy. I'm kinda amused that Agha is so popular with the readers. I was kinda expecting people to find her annoying, but she's loved! Which makes me feel pretty good. I love "small" characters like her, munchkins, dwarves, hobbits... I'm sad they are often used as comic relief. I loved versions of dwarves that were as rocking and fantastic as elves. They deserve so much more love. I think I might actually draw a whole bunch of dwarves this week! :D

Did you guys heard about the Hobbit movie in preparation? There's BOUND to be some cool dwarves in that one. There's 12 of them!

I'm taking it easy this week. My health still seems a bit... iffy. My body feels overtired. But i'm still in good spirits. I'm going to try to make a bit of an update cushion for Namesake and work on my super-special-secret project. I can't wait to tell you guys about that one!

Oh, in June, I'm thinking of, for the second time ever, opening commissions. Try to see what I get out of it. Maybe nobody will want anything. First time I tried I got like... one. All money made with said commissions would be going to fuel the Namesake ads all over the internet. Anywho, we'll see. I,m not opening the commissions before then because the super-secret project is taking all over my time.

I have other super-secret awesome news... But i'm keeping it under wraps... until the next post!

...........I kinda screwed up Aang a bit. It's because of the new pen, I tell you!

Oh, it's rare but... MEME TIME! I actually like this one :

Meme taken from EVERYWHERE.

Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I will reply saying:
* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

Yay, classy Agha! ;D
I got to ask: how old is she supposed to be in normal human terms? I ask because for some reason she always came across to me as considerably older-looking than much of the main cast, but I am not sure whether it's true or I'm seeing things. :)

Hummm... It's pretty complicated to think up, since most Ozites are "immortals" but have very young bodies. Agha's appearance and mind is about 30 or so in human years. In "real" years, she's a good 200-300. She was a little kid when the second Dorothy came to Oz and time in Oz flows differently then earth.

Despite not being a huge Lord of the Rings fan (I did enjoy the movies), I am curious how they're gonna pull off the new Hobbit movie. :OO

For the meme...Alice (from Pandora Hearts)!

Alice :

* I like her a lot. Though i've read like 2 books, so I don't know her that well yet.
* Huh. Oz I guess? Sorta. Is "None" an answer?
* Oz and his servant. :D
* I think she's a little too brutal. I know female characters that push others around are beloved in anime and manga, but I get annoyed after the fifth kick to the face. There's other more subtle ways to dominate.
* Er... I hope I can read the end?

Small characters are fun! Probably because they have a literal different perspective than the average human, but also because they're just different. Personally, I have a lot of fun playing shorter races. Just last night my dwarf took down an ogre within seconds, yet she struggled to hit a stupid kobold...a kobold! And I need not go into the shenanigans of my halfling rogue... In short, they're fun, and I'm not surprised your character is being loved. ;)

Speaking of commissions, I'll be playing homemaker today (I was asked to cook dinner, and I was already going to bake for home teachers coming later tonight), but I'll try and get a pattern worked out soon.

The proportions and personalities are truly a ton of fun.

Agha is likable, I can't explain it. Maybe it's because I can relate to her and she certainly makes a good guide. Dwarves are awesome, I can't wait to see the movie. Did you know that along with Disney fairies, Disney had thought of doing something similar with dwarves, but they dropped the idea.

For the Meme:
Pinkie Pie and because I'm reading the new Bone novel, Phoney Bone.

Pinkie Pie :

* She's cool.
* .....Nobody?
* Rainbow Dash.
* She's a little too random for my taste. I really like the random jokes, but in the newer episodes they happen WAY too much. It's starting to loose it's charm.
* She needs to be identified as a hoarder.

Artist's curiosity: What's the pen? I've grown fond of my (poor) attempts with the dip pen for inking, but would like a good portable pen for travel.

Great pieces. I love Kataang fluff.

It's just a prisma color one. Unfortunately, the super-fine nib is disappointingly large. Looks like i'm going to have to get a traditional one too!

Great pictures! I guess the new pen is working for you!

Word on how annoying it is to see dwarves get consistently treated like comic relief in fiction. It's ironic that fantasy stuff like Lodoss and LotR is more respectful toward them than most mainstream films/TV shows.

I might be interested in commissioning stuff from you if/when you open that up. Your style is great and having some custom, frame-able piece from you would be fun!

Those poor dwarves should form a union or soemthing.

Hey, that's cool, i'd be happy to oblige and draw for you!

As for the meme: I pick Gourry!

* Generally good. He's Gourry. He's everybody's favorite meatshield.
* Lina. :D
* Zelgadis. Those two have a strange understanding.
* He's not part-elf dammit. Everyone drop your damn theories.
* I'd love to see more of the novel content with him...

* She's made of pure awesome and I adore her. In the books anyways. Also, her hair reminds me of Rogue.
* ...Nobody?
* Death of Rats.
* I kinda think she's a bit of a bitch, but I personally like it. Makes her feisty.
* I'm pretty happy with you, canon.

HeE~ Kataang. Also, what? You just discovered cartridge calligraphy pens now?!

I pick Suki for the meme!

I am quite the backwards artist.

Suki...

* She's one of my favorite ladies.
* Sokka and Toph.
* Still Sokka and Toph. And Mai.
* I really hate her introduction episode. I love Kyoshi Island and all, but the whole war of the sexes was so.. stereotypical. I know this is a kid's show and they kinda have to go the obvious route to throw and Aesop in, but they could have done better.
* I want to know if she followed the gaang as an adult

From: [identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com
Uuuugh, I so see what you mean from WoK. It really was a "sexism is bad!" episode, although I do love our introduction to the culture itself. It's just done better in later episodes, and Suki is less of a token "fighter chick".

Suki strikes me as someone who could go either way. In one stance, she is very attached to Kyoshi as a culture and whole. On the other, she loves Team Avatar and I see her adjusting her life for them, too. She's very...awesome that way.

Yeah, I loved the island, and I loved Suki in later episodes, where her fighting wasn't as weird. I find the "sexism is bad" episode with Katara worked better. It truly felt like a culture clash and Katara really had to overcome it. The Kyoshi island one just kinda made Sokka an idiot. I think I would have liked it better if Sokka would have been impressed by them right away instead of threatened.

I'm glad I got to see this drawing on here because for some reason, certain postings on dA will not zoom out so I can see them better. I dunno why. It's irritating.

And was it done with your new pens? It looks good! I can't tell a difference. I used to have nib pens that I got from my German 'brother' once. Those were some nice pens. I used to use it all the time to write letter back when I hand wrote letters. It was the cartridge kind as well.

And I love Agha! I think she's cute and pretty smart.

I would love to give you a commission! Provided I ever have any extra money.

And you are being very mean to taunt us with this super secret news business.

*pouts*

One of the Hobbit movie dwarves is one of my favorite Irish actors, James Nesbitt, who played Finn in Waking Ned Divine. Hilarious.
