Now for something where I panic less...

Except not really...
I just learned a few weeks ago about this upcoming movie called the "Witches of Oz".

The story is : Dorothy Gale discovers that her best selling novels are actually based on suppressed childhood memories of her time in Oz, and that she may be in danger of experiencing it all over again.
Christopher Lloyd ... Is the Wizard of Oz . REALLY? NICE. I think my heart just stopped. DOCTOR BROWN!
You can visit the following website to see a teaser trailer of the movie.
My reaction to this movie is strange. Half of me is going "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, a potentially good Oz-themed film, oh my god!" while the other half of me is going "Great, something else with a really high budget Namesake has to compete against". But I think the "Oh my god" part of me is winning. Why? First off, that movie actually looks good, and the director actually seems to be a Oz-book-reading-and-loving dude. Second off, I picked popular fairy tales as a subject for Namesake. The fact that other things would come out was to be expected. Not to mention the adventures in Oz is just the first chapters of Namesake. Third, i'm a sucker for anything with the Oz witches. Fourth, interest in Oz from a lot a viewers might actually be good for Namesake. The only thing I don't like about this movie is how they made Dorothy the writer, editing out Baum completely. Kinda what Tim Burton did with his Alice movie.
But, hey. The special effects look rad. Amiright?
This was suppose to come out in 2010. Got pushed back to 2011. But it seems to be doing well, since they have the whole cast and actors listed.
Next post will have a drawing, I swear. Bad lazy panicking artist, bad!

Date: 2011-01-20 06:43 pm (UTC)I,m totally in love with this movie, mainly because of all the brilliant actors.
I totally feel like my poor little namesake is going to be so pale next to this :(

Date: 2011-01-20 06:49 pm (UTC)To tell you the truth, if Boyd wasn't in this flick, I wouldn't touch it. Not my style. But I'd still be interested in Namesake, even if I didn't know you. It's an entirely different animal. Don't sell yourself short!

Date: 2011-01-20 07:05 pm (UTC)Aw, thanks! Really. These compliments are really kind and really helping. I'm having a whole bunch of panic right now due to the whole printed comic fiasco... I think I really need to work on having better self-esteem. I doubt myself and my work all the time. It's really not good.

Date: 2011-01-20 08:19 pm (UTC)Have you ever read Wicked? Love that book. Not for everyone, though.
There's also the red riding hood movie coming out this year. Oh, and Beastly, based on the book by the same name which is a retelling of beauty and the beast.
So yeah - fairy tales are pretty popular ;)

Date: 2011-01-20 08:37 pm (UTC)I'm overly critical of all things Oz.
I can't wait to see Beastly! We should go together if we can.
I hope you're doing all right. you looked a little tired yesterday :( Let me know if you need anything!

Date: 2011-01-20 08:51 pm (UTC)I'm good! But yeah, I was tired. I think I had a bit of a cold or something because I wasn't feeling normal. Just one of those days I guess ;)

Date: 2011-01-20 08:57 pm (UTC)If you're less into the magic and more into political things, battles, character development... and of course, tragedy, then Wicked is awesome.
I did like how Elphaba evolved though. I have to say, I loved reading parts about her childhood, her toughs, especially when she was stranting to loose it towards the end... and the whole aspect of magic being difficult and somewhat alien to everyone was cool. Hence why I think I would have liked the book a lot more with original characters. My own image of what Oz should be interfere with my capacity to appreciate the read.
Well, hopefully delicious poutine killed the cold! :D

Date: 2011-01-20 10:04 pm (UTC)I can understand you're mix reaction, but as you said, it's not like you're the only person to do a take on the Wizard of OZ. Worse case, you can just point to the date and show you did write it before the movie came out.

Date: 2011-01-21 12:58 am (UTC)And don't worry about Namesake competing with anything else Oz related. As proven, it seems anything Oz tends to be popular and timeless.
