Ah, Inception, Inception, Inception.
Good movie.
I though the idea behind the story was pretty good. This is obviously Christopher Nolan's brainchild. Him and his team put a lot of effort in and the results were good.
What I liked :
Okay, the confusion between dreams and the reality was awesome. The music was awesome (Edith Piaf???? REALLY??? OMG). The idea of "totems" as elements to guide you (decide if you are in reality or not) was also really neat. I also adored the "Dream Team". All the characters were solid, hilarious or cool. Mal is scary as hell. And I thinkt hat was great. She was a "nightmare" and needed to be scary. Also, she was played by Marion Cotillard, who is a french actress I adore. She's sexy as hell. Va-va-voom! I am now a shipper of Athur and Ariadne. Because they rock. Thank you, Ellen Page.
So, good scenario. good characters. Good music. Nice special effects. The usual makings of a great movie.
What I didn't like :
Oh, Christopher Nolan. I like this director but his formula is always the same. Intricate and complex opening, action-packed-Americanized middle and neat ending. I would have taken the middle with a bit less James Bond and a bit more weird. You're in a dream, after all. I get that dreams need to look and feel real for the subject to gravitate in them... But I was sad that the dream's "protectors" were not more surreal and immortal-like. But then that might have fallen in the realm of the Matrix. And also made it easier for people to see what is a dream and what is not. So I guess it's okay. I still would have enjoyed more surrealism. A lot more. The opening was so promising for surrealism. We got a lot in the final parts of the movie. The Limbo world was nice and intricate. I guess I was hoping for more then the usual mook-killing-click-beating-stress-or-death type of development. It's still a good movie. But I was hoping for a bit more. They did have a fight without gravity. That was cool.
I liked Mal but I felt Ariadne took on the role of the "team chick" a bit too much. But I feel Nolan has problems creating women. Reh. Mal was pretty awesome, so it kinda makes up for the few weaknesses in Ariadne's character.
So generally, it's fun. It's not really a mind-screw like most people seem to think it is. But it brings in interesting elements for action movies. If action movies can start all being this good, I would love that.
Aside from that, new week starting. I've got a busy week ahead of me. And a busy weekend too. I'm feeling stressed again. I have the nasty habit of wanting to give my 100% everywhere. It's like I can't accept situations where I "fail". Like not being able to go see someone because I already have plans. I just start feeling guilty. A lot guilty. Self-inflicted guilt. What is wrong with me?
Namesake pages are advancing well. I even started drawing art for internet ads. You know, to advertise the webcomic. Here are the non-colored, non-cropped version :

I like these because they are mostly designed to be vertical, but can be easily adapted in horizontal banners.
Each banner would have a different character and tagline. I'm hoping people will like them.
I never imagined making webcomics would be this stressful. I keep worrying about not being able to follow a schedule.
Whew. Only 5 weeks until the launch of the Namesake website. 5. Weeks. Eeek. I know it's a dealine I put on myself and that I can totally move, but I still prefer being able to make the original deadline.

Date: 2010-08-09 03:38 pm (UTC)Gah. Marion Cotillard! Why are you and your accent so sexy? It's not even funny.
Needed less c4 and more mind screw.
Awwww. Thanks. I,m often told composition is one of my strong suits. I don't even know how I learned that. I'll trade composition for your inherent talent to draw sexy ladies. I need more sex appeal.
