As always, the animation looks great. There seems to be a strong focus on the male character. Probably to attract a male audience. I get the feeling that by creating a dashing thief, there just gonna attract more girls...

AAAAH. I cannot wait for this movie. As much as I love 2D animation...I'm really excited!

And it doesn't hurt that the dashing thief is...very dashing. Like you said. Attracting a male audience? Yeeeah... xD

Yeah, I think that's a strong prediction. It looks awesome though. (Is it wrong that I like the little lizard.)

Oh, I can hear the fangirls already...Seriously, I think they're popping up even now in the comments on that video. XD;;

But yes, it looks like fun and the animation is pretty amazing. The thief's voice actor sounds familiar too.

I'm all for more male characters akin to Aladdin, where they take an active part in the plot instead of just kicking back and relaxing until they're needed to save the day at the last minute. I know it's something Disney has struggled with for a long time, since the male lead in the original source material isn't usually up to much. From an insider's perspective, Disney of course wants a male character that young boys want to emulate. Disney's made a killing with the Disney Princesses franchise, but all it has to go on with boys is the generic pirate.

On the other hand, if Disney wanted to pander to an older age group of men, it would focus on making the female lead more 'hot', ala Jessica Rabbit. It scares me that men still drool after her despite how many years it's been since Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released. I don't think using sex appeal to draw in the male population is the way to go, however, at least not for the Disney label.

(Anyway, I saw the trailer the other day but didn't have a chance to post it up. Even though I prefer Disney's traditional animation, I love how Disney has made it a point to insert traditional animation techniques, such as squash and stretch, to its CGI movies. It makes movies like Shrek look very stiff and boring by comparison. ...at least to me.)

Oh that is too awesome. I'm going to have to go see this when it comes out. It looks better than I expected.

Rapunzel as a girl who kicks guy's butt with hair and has a little green chameleon for a mascot? Oh, and let's not forget the thief, yes, definitely don't forget the thief...

Hmm, I think Disney might've just found a way into my wallet. XD

Mainly because it was planned as CGI from the start, and also because they were going for a specific artistic look with the film so that even if it's CGI, it's supposed to look more like a painting. It's something that probably could be done with traditional animation, but would be much more expensive to do.

(Edit: This movie was in the works while Pixar and Disney were having a falling out, so at the time Disney was pushing CGI. It would probably destroy too much work to start all over with traditional animation.)

Oh trust me, I do, too. I still don't really like cgi movies. Yes, it looks pretty, but a lot of the time it just lacks any real lasting appeal. I'd take a movie like Beauty and the Beast over, say, Avatar, any day!

I love the animation sequence where she beats him up with her hair. It's kinda sad that they showed that in the trailer because it won't be a surprise anymore.

I wonder who plays him *goes to check*

Actually, in the original fairy tale of Rapunzel, the prince had a pretty large (and somewhat tragic) role. He wasn't much of a saver either, since the witch kinda kicks his butt and wins.

I'm all for more active heroes too, but I doubt this type of hero will attract more males in the audience. I think they should go more towards characters like Hiccup, or Jim, or aladdin, as you said. This guy seems way to dashing.

I like both computer and traditional. I find both can bring out something that the other can't. Like light. Lighting is quite unique in 3D animation. However, traditional still has the more artistic edge.

CGI will last. I don't expect one to trump the other. That's like saying traditional animation "won" over stop motion. They are just different styles with different tools and different possibilities. As long as Disneys officials realise that BOTH tools should be used (aka release CGI and traditional), I think both styles can live side-by-side quite nicely. Having one "die out" would just be sad.
