Flights of fancy

Animated women are hard to please. Some of them are princesses, goddesses, wizards... And they are obsessed with having MORE. Until the hero takes they on some kind of magical ride in the skies. So all you men of paint and lines, make sure you've got the right items!
Also, flight sequences most be awesome to animate. Pure awesome.

Magical boots are a real fairy tale items, if you guys are curious. It's actually one of my favorite magical items. I'm surprised nobody ever did anything with these. Heck, they were actually used in the "Howl's moving castle" novel. Well then, I guess i'll just have to write a comic book centered on this item one day. Mwahahaha.
In other animated news, A french magazine released a pretty picture of Rapunzel (Raiponce in french). The animation and characters look amazing. Apparently, Rapunzel can control her hair to lift and move things. I'm a bit sad about that because I have a Rapunzel character myself that can do that. Now, I will probably be pinned as copying from Disney when i'll use her. Oh well.
One look at the image and you can tell right away where the internet communities are gonna go with the movie. I'll give you a hint. It starts with a "B" and ends with an "age". Ah, internet. Sucking the innocence away from animated features since 1997.

Animated love is complicated, right, animated characters? You've only got 2 hours to work your mojo.

Date: 2010-04-11 12:41 am (UTC)I like the seven league boots. I think they were also in the novel The Two Princesses of Bamarre (same author as Ella Enchanted), but it's been a long time since I read it. So, I could be misremembering.
Ah internet, no Disney film shall ever be safe from you.

Date: 2010-04-11 04:16 pm (UTC)(And coincidences are going to happen. I had been working on a concept for one of my Slayers fics for a long time, then when I was finally writing it out, Knight of Aqualord came along and made my idea canon...and it was scary, and also made me panic that people thought I was ripping the idea off. Sadly, not enough people have read the manga so such things have not happened. But argh!)

Date: 2010-04-11 05:52 pm (UTC)Coincidences happen a lot, especially if people inspired themselves from a similar source. However, even if a source is old, and a specific twist as been used before, people always seem to assume you ripped off the newest and/or most popular version. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OlderThanTheyThink). For instance, Rapunzel using her hairs as a whip was used a lot in the old kid novels "Rapunzel's Revenge". But barely anybody knows about this (excellent) Wild-wild-west steampunk graphic novel.

Raiponce? (Rapuncel) Is there a new animation movie about that tale? Not surprising, seeing how short of ideas are the writters lately. However, if she uses her hair like that, it's just the typical Hairy Japanese ghost XD

Date: 2010-04-11 11:26 pm (UTC)And I like the look and feel of the screen shot. (Setting the B-age aside of course.) Though it makes me think of Milerna (Spelling?) from guilty gear. If memory serves the character was french and used her hair to wail on people.

Date: 2010-04-12 08:22 am (UTC)wow, retelling stories seem to be getting trendy now...though i'm not complaining, I'd love to see the new spin to Rapunzel. (i was hoping more 2D than 3D. oh well.)
and thanks for the hint. XD
