Problem with the LJ cut

Since the instored the new system, I seem to be anable to make an LJ cut. Am I doing something wrong? How does this work?

there is a new lj cut system?
is it not < lj-cut text="text here" > lalalal cut stuff < /lj-cut > (with no spaces around the <>)
