...Well I do. But for the colors. The other implication doesn't apply to me. However, I like that rainbow's are Gay Pride's symbol. It make's walking in Gay parts of town really fun and colorful for me. This kinda makes me wonder why Rainbow Brite was never remodeled as a Gay symbol. I mean, they used Tintin lately. I figure Rainbow Brite would be more fun then Tintin. But she has a pretty clear crush on a boy so I guess they never though of using her. Oh well.

I like when people re-use characters for political or social statements. It cracks me up.

On the subject of rainbows, I noticed I posted a lot more colored drawings lately. Yay! Color is awesome.

I just finished adding color to a page of Jabberwocky. It seems my photoshop suck is not that sucky! This is pretty much exactly the result I wanted:

Neat huh?

Jabberwocky is the story of a little girl who creates an imaginary friend (a double of herself) as a child, and is obligated to dispose of it when she becomes an adult, because the double is becoming very smothering and controlling. It's the sister book to ROSE (mainly since it was originally suppose to be a short story in ROSE) so it's got similar graphics, symbols and ideas. It's going to be shorter though. And in color. SHA-BAM! Color!

How awesome is that? :D

*Edit - I forgot to include all these Avatar Icons I made. I bought the magazines and made scans, then icons. I love these. I really should get a paid account so I can use them. Avatar fans on my list, take and credit please! :D

What? Rainbow Brite as a gay symbol? o.0

Also that story sounds so tragic, but so neat at the same time. =D

Awesome -- I love your style. :3 The story sounds really good too. Like [livejournal.com profile] amelia_seyroon said: tragic but neat. It's a great concept.

I still remember the rainbow wall we found while wandering Tortonto. *grins* I love rainbows toy, which is probably why I still have my old Rainbow Brite dolls.

That's a cool idea for a story and I like the style for it. Is this wordless like Rose was.

Also, I'll probably be snagging a couple of the icons. ^_~

I'm secretly happy the gay community moved on to using the rainbow as its symbol since before that it was the color purple, and I love the color purple and I didn't want people getting the wrong impression about me... -_-;; But Rainbow Brite wouldn't work as a symbol for it at all, aside from her liking Brian she's not a figure to sexualize anyway. She looks like a little kid, for crying out loud! Tintin at least looks like someone old enough that you can't accuse him of being jailbait.

And I'm going to scoot away now. This is all rather awkward for me to talk about. Much luck continuing to explore coloring in Photoshop!

Right! It used to be purple. I,m also very fond of purple. But I like that rainbows are their symbol. It makes nice walls (like the one Joanne took a picture of me in front of).

Rainbow Brite doesn't work at all (she has a clear crush on a guy!) I'm just amazed nobody though of using her character as a symbol simply because she was associated to rainbows. As stated before, her preference was clear. I think Tintin probably became a gay symbol because his preferences are vague. And he hangs out only with men. And makes a lot of anti-women comments (at least in the original french version). Not to mention the only female character in the series is a fat hag. No really- she's mean and whiny!

I realise it's an awkward subject. But at least, you gotta admit having rainbows everywhere is fun and colorful!

I do like what they're striving for in using rainbows (inclusive, etc.), but rainbows will never equal gay to me. I grew up in an area that gets a lot of rain so rainbows are a somewhat frequent occurrence. (And even in the summertime, we could easily make rainbows with some sunshine and a water hose!) Plus, there's the Biblical sense that rainbows are God's promise never to flood the entire world again...so yeah, completely different meaning to me.

I don't really encounter a lot of rainbows (edit: the symbol) in the city though, not even Seattle! Maybe if I went down to San Francisco I might, but I don't know for sure. We're all into being green in the Northwest. A person's sexual preference isn't so out in the open since it doesn't have to be. (I'd be curious to know how Vancouver, B.C. compares!)

I found that gay symbols (rainbows or others) usually appeared more frequently when a sector was dedicated to them (the same way chinese flags are shown in chinatown, but a random immigrant won't usually put one up in his residence if he's in another part of town). It's a way to claim territory, and say 'this is where our community exists and belongs'. I guess people don't feel a need to expose it, as you say, in other parts of town since it doesn't fill the purpose of marking something quite as well (they might also feel unconfortable - or scared - doing so outside of the 'designated area', but that's a whole debate in itself.)

I heard somewhere that rainbows were chosen as a symbol because of it's connection with religious beliefs.

One way or another, it's still damn pretty. I love rainbows after rain.

Washington state is pretty open to gay people, actually. There's even a bill right now that would give gay couples all the same rights as married couples (it's called "Everything But Marriage") without having to wed. Whether it passes or not is another matter, but from what I've encountered of the lifestyle (including having many friends come out of the closet), while they're not always embraced with open arms, typically they're not going to be cast out for being gay. And no one likes a flaming gay (one who has to make it obvious to THE ENTIRE WORLD what their sexual preferences are) - not even other gay people! At least in Washington state.

You kind of have a fondness for the macabre I've noticed. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation tis all.

Awesome icons! I've noticd I've gotten a bit better at it myself. Not great, just better. I look back on the early ones I did and cringe.

I love macabre! I really do. Tim Burton's number one stocker here!

but, I usually give a positive, upbeat ending of message. ROSE's ending is pretty much on the good side, despite the 'woah! Nasty' of the book.

Yeah, I still need to get better at this icon thing.
