I don't think I ever took the type to type this down but... THANK YOU!

Thanks for coming by and reading my posts. Thanks for all your comments, love, support and general awesomeness. I really appreciate it. It's thanks to people like you that artists like me are encouraged to work more! Now that ROSE is published (thank you to all the people who signed up for a copy!) I just want to do more books/webcomics/LJ posts. The ideas are overflowing. And I know I can count on you guys for love and support every step of the way.

A comic artist is nothing without it's readers. So, thank you. I hope you will continue to love my drawings and laugh at my jokes. I really appreciate it. I'm lucky enough to be able to follow the blogs/ljs of other artists (such as [livejournal.com profile] rosalarian , [livejournal.com profile] lycorne  and [livejournal.com profile] ginasketch ) and I can see it's hard to find a readership and it's hard to make comics. But I know that with a gang like you guys, my readership and motivation can only increase from now on, no matter what the format I choose to work it.

Feel my motivated fire!!! It BURNS!!!

-Isa

p.s. ROSE buyers - I'm getting my box of books by the end of the week and should get right on the signing, packing and sending ASAP.

p.s.2 I wish people would stop being so overdramatic about Disney buying Marvel. I don't think Disney will ruin Marvel. They know the fanbase. If anything, Marvel might get a better marketing department. Disney has one heck of those.

...you need to stop drawing things! When I see some of your drawings the first thing to pop into my head is, "Hey, I could SEW that!" Gaah! On that note, one of these days I will figure out how to make a Work Creature to my satisfaction and then the world is DOOMED!

*cough*

I find it funny that people rant and rail about Disney. I think people tend to forget that while Disney is known for being safe and family-friendly, Disney also has adult labels (HORROR! Has anyone ever heard of Touchstone Pictures? Miramax?) so that it can produce edgy things without soiling the Disney label. And Disney would have to be extremely foolish to destroy what Marvel is since it is such a huge market for boys (pre-teen, teen, or post-teen) which Disney has struggled to latch onto. Disney has tried with the pirate thing (seriously, girls in the parks get dolled up as princesses or fairies, while boys get to be pirates) with so-so success. Disney's going to milk this for all it is worth! Plus, possibly deal Universal Studious a crushing blow since it contains attractions with characters that are now owned by Disney. (Whoo! Good thing I paid attention in my Disney Corporate Analysis class while working there!)

Sheesh, no wonder people call Disney the Evil Empire... In any case, I personally hope to see some cool Disney comics come from this. Gargoyles would be nice to see picked up again!

P.S. - Awesome subject line, by the way. I love Labyrinth!

Labyrinth is made of pure, concentrated awesome (except maybe David Bowie's....dominant feature. No you know what? Even that's hilarious.)

Hahahahah. If you decide you want to sew a voodoo doll, i'll make you a better sketch then that! Make a really nice desing and torture you with it!

I din't even worry about that buying out thing. My dad mentionned to me and my reaction was 'Meh. Nothing will happen. Or maybe we'll get Disney comics by cool illustrators.' People are so focused on the whole Disney = family friendly = apparently uncool that they forget that, as you say, Disney is not 100% kittens and flowers (and heck, even in the kittens and flowers section, there's some freaky, deeky stuff.)

Also, Marvel is not one of their direct competitors. They obviously bought Marvel because they want their series/democraphic without using the Disney label (which would be hard to do anyways since people have already associated it with the previously mentionned kittens) or creating a new label.

Oh no, even that *ahem* aspect of David Bowie added to Jareth's overall imposing figure. And many women still find him dreamy to this day... o_O

People really seem to go two ways with Disney. They're either completely oblivious to Disney producing anything beyond the Walt Disney name, or they're so horrified that Disney produces adult content that they're convinced Disney is of the devil waiting to corrupt our youth. People are weird... And you're right, Disney and Marvel were not in competition with each other. Actually, whenever I'm browsing channels and pass by 'Disney XD' (what used to be Toon Disney) I see a lot of Marvel cartoons on. Methinks Disney and Marvel have been in talks of merging for quite a while now...

And people really do forget that Disney can make outstanding movies beyond the family-friendly. People and their short attention spans.. XP

(You don't have the guts to torture me!) :D

Jareth was awesome. I never found him dreamy, but I think he was one of my first encounters with a 'gray' 'supervillain' rather then the classic 'Mwahahahaha I r evil' types.

Disney even did more adult stuff under his Disney label... to only name a few: Gargoyles (GUNS!), Pirates of the Carribean (I know they market it as for kids in the parks but you gotta admit some parts of the movie are a bit more adult. And I don't just mean the monsters.) and a few older movies and Pixar movies try to include the adult audience.

I really don't like this vision most people seem to have that he's either kiddish or evil. I kinda see them as a evil mega-corporation a little (their treatment of their artists under the italian branch is pretty awful) but they are the home of so many brilliant artists... it's good that they exist in a way.

(don't TEMP me.)

Jareth was definitely in the grey area. I found his actions at the start and throughout the film to be scary (as a kid), but later on we see that he's not truly all bad at all...and perhaps not even bad. He was just keeping his end of the deal Sarah unwittingly made with him. He even gave her a sporting chance to fix what she did, after all... Man! Now I need to watch it!

All of Disney's movies (aside from those marketed specifically toward children in the past few decades) are made for all ages to enjoy. I think that's one reason I keep being pulled back to them, because every time I watch a movie I get something new from it. But yes, things like the Pirates movies have elements that would be a no-no in a purely kids' movie, so lets be thankful they're not! I for one loved the Pirates movies because there was action and adventure (not to mention swashbuckling!) with dark elements, but they didn't rely on mass amounts of blood and crude language to attract people. I really loved the characters. I hope Disney continues to produce such movies. (I'm really getting excited for the upcoming Prince of Persia movie and the Lone Ranger movie. Not to mention a third National Treasure!)

Disney now is doing what Walt Disney did back in the day: trying to put out the best content possible. Walt Disney himself did start out by producing his works through other companies, but doing so meant having to deal with red tape and then there was the fiasco of a company undermining him by taking his then most profitable character. (Poor Oswald the Rabbit.) You can't really blame Walt for being fed up with that stuff so he started to produce his own stuff, which is why the Disney label has lasted beyond the man. As long as the company keeps on producing quality entertainment (and steers away from the cheap High School Musical-esque movies) I'll not have any complaints.

Well, almost none. If I ever get my foot in the Disney door again, all bets are off. ^_-;

(Okay then, I'll pull out for now. But should certain pairings be made for that crafty thing know you caused your own doom!) >XD

Here's a totally, utterly belated congratulations! \o/ I'm really impressed that you got your work published. God knows how much time, sweat, and tears go into making a book (even a short doujinshi is exhausting) but you've done it! ^_~

As for Disney buying Marvel thing, I can't help but imagine Micky trying to shake hands with Wolverine while saying to him "Welcome to the family!" XD

From: [identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com
That reminds me, I still need to get back to you on that doujinshi.... maybe once my life slows down a little.

That would make such a cute drawing! I hope to see Marvel return to cool things thanks to Disney (example - Xmen animated series versus Xmen movies? NO CONTEST ON WHO IS THE COOLEST!)

I'll be leaving tomorrow to travel for two weeks and then again in October, but I'll most likely do a second sale of the doujinshi for people who missed the first sale. :)

I donno, for me it's hard to say what Disney will do with Marvel. I think they'll probably let Marvel keep doing their own thing but a cross over would be very interesting to see. XD Would it sound weird if I hope for a Marvel/Kingdom Hearts cross over?

I think a lot of the anti-Disney-buying-Marvel thing comes from geek snobbery. Despite the fact that superhero movies are hugely successful, and graphic novels are becoming more and more popular, the ones who read Marvel's comics (and are doing most of the complaining) are still pretty much deep in the geek culture. And if Disney buys Marvel, they might do things to make Marvel more popular, and Marvel comics will be *gasp* read by people who have seen women naked and take regular showers! :P

It's the Indie Rock Pete syndrome. If too many people start liking it, they'll stop liking it. Which is pretty much the definition of snobbery.

Date: 2009-09-03 01:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] secondlina.livejournal.com
I'm not much for snobbery. I like to think i'll read anything, as long as the story/art interests me. And this whole freakout is, as you said so well, full on geek snobbery. I wish people would wait and see the result before throwing things around.

I don't see why people have been over reacting. I honestly think it won't be any worse then when Warner Bros. bought DC Comics (and look at some of the movies they came up with *cough* The Dark Knight *cough*). And it's not like Marvel has been doing great for the last couple of years. Ex: Civil War.

I actually read that this fall, there's suppose to be a return of some Disney comics again. So, maybe with buying Marvel, Disney will bring back even more Disney comics like Darkwing Duck, Talespin, etc.

I will say onething, the webcomic artists having been having a field day with it, not that I blame them.

I think the webcomic artists are having fun with this subject because of the hilarious potential and the fact that people are really, putting a big emphasis on this.

I think only good things can come from this partnership. Usually, when Disney buys brands, it's to gain their fanbase/characters, so I doubt they would jeorpardize that by making everything kiddy. If they is something to be said about Disney super-ultra-huge-evil-empire of marketing...it's that's it's a really good marketing team.

I think the only time I got annoyed at Disney was when they bought the ABC company and canceled Reboot. Granted, we Canadians were able to still watch it on YTV, but I can imagine it was frustrating for the rest of the Reboot fanbase.

However, I do think that only good things will come from this.

Well, they got to do the movies at least. I find Reboot finished his story well in 4 seasons.

Um, roffles at your entry title.

Disney bought Marvel? That should be good for marketing, I totally agree.
