ROSE finally exists as a book. But I can't sell it before the launch so you guys are still going to have to way next monday for the list of stores/who wants to order thru me post kiddos!

The books look good. Kinda. I'm very angry at the cover. It's pixellated and odd. Aside from that, the rest seems pretty okay (just ignore me being a picky artist looking at her pages saying "I'm a crappy artist! I ink bad! Aaaah!" Because I don't have much self esteem.) For those of you requesting a photo of the book and those of you requesting photos of my new hair style here you go. Yep, it's blurry. Live with it XD.

The few people who have seen the book so far have had interesting comments. Lots of cool suggestions. However, I was amused by a somewhat sexist comment a guy-friend of mine said: "This book is so very like you!" Intrigued, I asked "How so?" ...thinking he was gonna bring up something about the creepy or the angst. But nope he said: "The book is like you because it is about heartbreak and female emotions. You know, drama. Ladies stuff."

I kinda laughed at him, stated that I never have been heartbroken in my life and therefore invented the whole thing and that associating "Ladies" with "Emotions and drama" was sexist. Then he said "But you don't see female writers write about anything else!"

Dammit, where is a good copy of an Agatha Christie of Mary Shelley novel when you need to smack people on the head with it?

Still on the subject of "Ladies", you kids have to watch Demitri Martin on youtube. He is a quirky and hilarious comedian who finds humor in everyday language. And because he is a master virtuoso of language, I have a huge crush on him. I especially like this skit where he made the observation that by simply adding a pause and the word "ladies?" to the end of any phrase,  you can instantly make it creepy.

Again, on the subject of "Ladies" (THEEEEEEMEEE!), I made a drawing with all the leading ladies from Tim Burton films. I love this drawing. I really want to finish it!

The "ladies" - Emily (Corpse bride), Catowman (Batman Returns), Lydia (Beetlejuice - cartoon style), Alien chick (Mars Attack), Katrina (Sleepy Hollow), Alice (Alice in Wonderland), The Siamese Twins (Big Fish), Mrs Lovett (Sweeney Todd), Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) and Kim (Edward Scissorhands).

Tim Burton seems to like blonds.

Time for sleep now!

-Isa

The cover looks fine through the blurriness of the photo...:P Well, it's kind of a shame that it turned out pixellated, but people still ought to find the cover intriguing!

Short hair looks good on you, by the way!

Sounds like somebody's been watching too many chick flicks! I really hate the trend for women to be all about angst and heartbreak. We're not all nearly so fragile - even those of us who have yet to go through a major breakup. It's not like the guy doesn't feel anything for his part anyway. XO

I'm pathetic. I saw your short haircut and instantly though, "Huh, looks like Akane got too close to combat again." which is odd since I haven't watched Ranma 1/2 in well over a decade. The 'do looks good! I'm ready to go for a new look myself. Long hair needs to die a horrible death!

(It would appear I have not watched a lot of Tim Burton's movies. I really do need to get Beetlejuice one of these days. I'd love to have the cartoon again! Lydia was so cool!)

I hope they will find the cover intriguing. It also does this weird foldy thing. It needs to at least arouse interest or else i'd be really disapointed XD

And thanks.

Sorry to hear about the cover, but I can't wait to see the book.

That guy must not have gotten much exposure to female writers if he thinks that's all women write about. My mom has got a whole shelf full of Agatha Cristie books to hit him with if you want. Besides, what about male writers? It's not like they never writer about emotions either.

Tim Burton has an interesting cast of ladies. Soon, you'll have another one to add once Nine comes out in a couple of weeks and also Alice when that movie comes out. *grins*

I remember reading an essay about how men had a larger tendancy to take heartbreak more badly then women (when the genuinly care anyway). Women are more in the moment - it will seem like the sky is falling and the earth shattering for about a month or two, but past that second month, the lady in question will be completly okay. Guys, however, usually pine and have aggressive-passive responses for 6 to 8 months (according to the study mentionned in the essay. So I guess you could say women are more into emotions, but that's probably because once you felt it all out, you move on much better.

This is pretty generalized though. I think there is a lot of people of both genders that seem to master the art of drama.

I never watched the beetlejuice cartoon (English = what are they saying?) but I loved, loved, loved the movie.

Lovely and creepy ladddiiiiiess...

I forgot a few though. I don't have the chick-puppet from the upcoming '9' either.

Women don't write. Writing involves getting out of our kitchens and thinking. *Gasp*

He's a bit of a traditionalist and slightly sexist, but I think the more he hangs around with us, the more he seems to learn (read - he learns or he dies a horrible death at the hands of my more violent friends). I think his stereotypical way of seeing women was fed a lot by the women he dated too (You should have seem them - more stereotypical girly-girl then that is impossible.)

Thanks. I miss the somewhat longer hair though. I think I look a bit like a guy. But I've been putting a lot of emphasis on my cleavage lately, because short hair allows you to have free necklines. And that compensates XD

From: [identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com
Dude, that's true. You can also play up your neck, make it look longer. Guys dig that; it's sensual.

Of course, I think Link likes you no matter how short yuor hair is =3

Alice is already there (bottom front, with the hat!) I forgot about the chick from 9. But does 9 count? He was more of a producer on this one. Bah. She's cute. I should add her.

The guy puzzled me since I find some of the angstiest, whiniest, 'why don't you looooveeee meeee' crap was definitly written by men. Twillight not withstanding. Remember poets 'back in the day?' Barely any women, but buckets upon buckets of sobbiness.

He doesn't especially like it short though. But I don't care much. I enjoy the hair freedom!

....he does seem to enjoy the resulting clevage though.

That is wonderful -- both Rose and your beautiful Tim Burton drawing. I forgot he was behind Batman Returns lol. ^^; Please do finish. I would love to see this in color.

I wish you the best of luck with Rose's launch. From one highly self-critical artist to another, don't worry yourself too much over the details, ok? You're a wonderful person and a talented artist -- you will be fine and so will Rose. :D

Men are the more emotional of the genders, at least when children. Our society at least tends to make men shun their emotional side because it "isn't manly", but yeah, men do tend to deal with heartbreak in a more destructive way. I'm shocked at all the men who do hurt or kill their (ex)girlfriend when the guy is hurting emotionally. We just recently had a case in he Seattle area of a boyfriend shooting his pregnant girlfriend in the head and then fleeing... The girlfriend ended up dying about a day after, and the boyfriend finally turned himself in. Disgusting.

Drama does make for a more intriguing story. Too much can ruin things, but just the right amount is excellent.

The cartoon series was pretty cool. I haven't watched it in forever, but typically Lydia would call on Beetlejuice when she wanted a break from the living world to go run around his world. I seem to recall there being a French skeleton they'd hang around with... I'll have to see if it's available anywhere...

OH! And there's one woman you're missing! :D Way back in the day Tim Burton was the character designer behind a short cartoon called The Family Dog. It's worth checking out!

I never gave much thought to whether the authors of what I read were male or female. I've been surprised to discover male romance writers who I assumed were female, and female science fiction writers when I hadn't thought much about it one way or another. I figure I either like the story, or I don't.

Speaking of female writers, let me add one to the list.

Hiromu Arakawa.

Author of Full Metal Alchemist.

I know! I was really impressed to learn that she was female (and I always seem to amaze people when I tell them she is). She's an excellent mangaka and she can really get into the brain of characters, male or female!

Although, I dunno how where she learned about alchemy. I have no idea where she got 'magic' out of 'basic medieval chemistry set' Yet, once in a while, she pulls into the scenario something linked to genuine chemistry / alchemy (like the contents of the human body)

WIN.

I admit I was surprised too to know and forget this info at times XD (but the anime is slightly more sexist than the manga so one can be confused)
Now everytime someone talks abut FMA I correct them.
People:"The guy who made FMA is so creative and amazing!"
Me:"You mean THE GIRL?"

Congratulation ^__^ I can't wait to see some previews ;)

Tim Burton is amazing...but lately his movies are starting to become weird, because he always casts Johnny Depp and Helena Bonan Carter XDDD (Alice is no exception, I'm worried it will be more "The adventures of the Mad Hatter" and the trailer didn't erase my suspicions >_>)

OMG! Your hair is so adorable!! :DDD It's probably nice and cool for summer and everything...

I saw Demetri on Conan once and he was very cute in it. He brought a sketch book with him and had cute a quirky sketches he did.

It's a change for him. He might end up really liking it eventually, because you really do look cute with that style. (The first time I cut my long hair, after about three years of marriage, my husband didn't like it because it was a change, but then he kept reminding me to get it trimmed. I dislike going to hair salons, so it's been long again for 4-5 years. Another excuse: I have a big investment in hair ornaments that require long hair!)

Demetri was one of the "reporters" on the Daily Show on Comedy Central and also has his own show. Cute and quirky definitely defines him.

I barely have any hair ornaments. I haven't had really long hair since elementary school. I always had it shoulder lenght since then, and never really tied it... I did wear a lot of bandanas though, but you can wear those with short hair too.

Yeah, I sorta dislike that whole "MAD HATTER IS A STAAARRRR!!!1111" aspect of the trailer. I really, really hope it doesn't turn out that way. I like Depp, but there IS such a thing as too much Depp. Especially Neon-Orange Depp, basically acting like jack sparrow in a different costume.
