 Wow, you guys today was a horrible drawing day. whatever I tried to draw crapped out on me. I had to re-do a page of Rose twice before deciding to screw it. I guess some days are like that. *sign* Isa just tired.

On a positive note, I FINALLY got Slayers knight of Aqualord! In French! Wee. It's weird to read the characters in french (for the first time EVAR!!!). Amelia is very polite. I kinda found it funny when she compared Line to bankrupted business that needs to sell out it's items when she learned Lina could not do magic anymore. As for Lina and Gourry... They speak in slang. But not ANY kind of slang. Oh no. Most people might not know, but french-canadian slang and french of france slang differs greatly, much like british english and american english. So Lina and Gourry use really, really France french slang. And really pushed slang too in some pages! It's a little ridiculous sometimes. But it fits...I guess? How does Lina talk in japanese?

I spend a lot of my evenings lately going thru my boxes (and boxes and boxes!) of drawings to finally file them neatly in my BRAND NEW FILING CABINET (biotch, yeah!). It's kinda therapeutic and funny to see all my old drawings again (and scary too. Ah, my eyes! feel the burn!) I want to scan so many to show you!

I noticed that the greater majority of my drawings wither went to Secondlina's Panel's file or a file destined to a older idea for a series I created with a friend called Bizaar. Bizaar was kinda like Buffy meets Magic Knight Rayearth meets Strangers in Paradise. It's a strange little idea that has an enormous lot of potential that I still want to pick back up someday.

Here, have a drawing anyways. It's not by me, but it's by an artist that really influenced the Rose project called Moki. Moki is german and her wonderful book <Asleep in a foreign place> is on amazon but currently unavailable (DAMMIT). I love her. Feast your eyes my friends, feast your eyes!

I'm tired now.

Lina's speech in Japanese is...pretty crude/rude, actually. The only times she speaks properly is when she's addressing people like Prince Phil (if she's in the mood) or old people (whom she doesn't want to think she's a rude person). Gourry's pretty rude with how he talks too. I think it's really supposed to just indicate class if anything, since then you have characters like Zelgadis who usually speak in a bit more polite way...sort of not really, sometimes Zelgadis is the rudest one of all! Pretty much, the only really polite characters are Amelia and Sylphiel, but Sylphiel tops her in politeness in speech. Crazy, crazy Sylphiel..

You still need to get the novels at some point. They did a good job of translating Lina's way of speaking from Japanese to English. (Sounds like they did a decent translation to French as well.) ^_-

I ought to look at art like that whenever I'm in a "I can't draw realistically enough!" angst session. The octopus alone looks far too cute for what it's really doing to that ship. :D

Sylphiel must top everyone in polite speech.

Hang on. What about Filia?

Honestly, I haven't watched TRY in forever. I know she's very polite herself, but for the life of me I can't remember how she addresses Xellos which would be the perfect indicator on how polite she is. Filia falls into a different area though, being a dragon talking to humans, as opposed to humans talking to fellow humans. (Xellos, by the by, is very polite.)

I checked Wikipedia for this because I also haven't watched Try in forever.

That's not what I meant, I was meaning words she uses in general. How she refers to herself, etc. Lina tends to say "Atashi" when referring to herself, Amelia says "Watashi (wa)", while Sylphiel says "Watakushi (wa)" which are all ways of saying 'me' but how polite each is varies. That alone is a great indicator on how polite a character is in general. (On the flipside, Gourry tends to say "Ore" to refer to himself, while the ever formal Xellos refers to himself as "boku".)

Are you at all familiar with Dryads?

Yes I get them mixed up with Nymphs

Nymphs and Dryads are of the same ilk, both being spirits that possess things in nature (rivers, trees, etc.). I think people just like coming up with extra names for the same thing. (Word origins are fun! :D)

I always figured Dryads were a subset of Nymphs.

a few weeks ago I was spring cleaning and found my old sketch book from high school. *shudders* It's amazing how a few years can put a different view on old drawings/stories.

Those drawings are neat. I like the dark shadow flying over the valley. It's an interesting...contrast I think is the word.

Also, I've been wanting to show this to you since I found it. The muppets perform the Jabberwocky poem.

"One of those days" for drawing, right? Just as long as it comes back after a little rest. Drawing tired is hard. x.x

Old drawings are fun to look at though! Sometimes there's some really interesting stuff...and on the other hand, sometimes you feel like getting them out of your sight (like you said). ^^;

What's even stranger?

Listening to Lina and Gourry talk in Chinese. I really wanna hear Amelia speak in the Chinese language, too. xD;
