Goodbye, Futurama. It's been awesome.

I watched the last movie of Futurama today, Into the Wild Green Yonder. Apparently, unless by some miracles, the DVDs sell like hotcakes, pretty much everybody are sure this is going to be the last animated release of futurama (there might be comics.) The movie wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, it was really more for die-hard fans and tied a few loose ends of the story, mainly concerning Fry and Leela (oh, Fry and Leela fans, let's just say the last 5 minutes will make you VERY happy.) The last minutes of the movie were definitly really good. They made the movie worth watching, even if it lacked a bit of awesome. Goodbye, crazy, zany future. I will miss you. I can't believe the Simpsons outlived you.



I also saw WATCHMEN yesterday. The movie was eyecandy O_O, especially the opening. Wow, the opening was mind-blowing. The rest was very faithful to the original. Almost too much maybe, to a point where the story felt like an animated version of the book and seemed a little long in some parts. But generally a good story, interesting characters and unexpected ending. I do deplore however the gore and graphic sex scenes. Obviously, I went in expecting grittyness, violence and sex. But I really don't need to see bones sticking out of wounds, or 10 minutes of soft core porn. Blah. But I did enjoy Watchmen. A lot. PG13 seems a bit low of a rating for it though, if you ask me.

Next time - comics. I know this is turning into a movie review blog, but it's to be expected... Free time means Isa is seeing movies! :)

I never did get to finish the Futurama television series so I've been hesitant to see the new stuff. I really did enjoy the series though. (Yes, me!) The Simpsons was good back in the day, but when Futurama came along it was such a welcome change! I only wish it had done better...

(Movie makers are horrible and will make an R-rated movie but get the rating knocked down to PG-13 specifically to draw a larger audience. What's sad is how much worse some PG-13 movies are compared to R!)

PG13? It's R out here! Heh, there's a lot of funny "OMG, it's a comic book and therefor for kids!" yelling from parents about that. And watching them wrap their minds around THAT is hilarious.

I'm ashamed to say that, so far, the only Futurama movie I've seen is Bender's Big Score. I've been reluctant to check out The Beast With a Billion Backs because I heard it sucked. But I might go out and buy Green Yonder since it actually does something with the dragged out Fry and Leela "will-they-won't-they" subplot. Is seeing the second movie a requirement to understanding this one?



And some of my friends came back from the theatre last night complaining about the awful sex scene in the Watchmen movie. I hate watching scenes like that when I'm with a bunch of strangers (10 minutes!? Seriously!? O_o) so I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD.
Oh well, I wanted to read at least one of the Watchmen books before seeing the movie anyway. :P

Movies are also a good source for writing/drawing inspiration. You can always use that as an excsue. ^_~

I saw a behind the scenes special of the Watchmen movie yesterday on tv. Seems the director was a die hard fan of the comic and he wanted to keep it as faithful to the comic as possible.

...I hate that "comic books for kids! EEYAH!" attitude. Whenever I tell parents I draw comic books, they either ask me "Oh, do you draw stuff like Titeuf (aka specific child comic)" or give me a sad "clearly, you are a loser" look. *sigh*

You know, I actually liked the beast with a billion backs. Sure, it wasn't great, but I still enjoyed being in Futurama for an extra 2 hours. I think the movies can be seen as bad or not. There's a lot of parts that are good in it. It mostly just lack a dynamic, coherent whole. The movies are episodes put together since comedy central ordered episodes, not movies. So obviously, the slightly woncky format kinda prevents a dynamic movie in a way. The last movie is by far the one that feels the most like episodes put together.

You don't need to watch the other movies to see Into a Wild Green Yonder. Only the two firsts actually follow themselves. The two lasts can be watched as stand-alones. Even if into the Wild Green Yonder wasn't that great either, I found the ending to be AWESOME. The last 10 minutes make it worth it. Especially for Fry and Leela fans.

Yeah, but short of buying the seasons it's not really an option. I ought to buy the seasons on DVD one of these days, but it will have to wait until I have an actual income again. Not to mention I've paid off my student loan.. XP

Yeah, I always get the same look when I talk to people about animation/cartoons. This especially gets annoying when they bring over an anime or any show from another country and broadcast it on tv as a show for kids, but it's actually for young adults. *cough*Escaflowne*cough*

It's annoying when things get labeled as 'kiddy' when it's not. -_-;

It's rated R in Cambridge.. I don't understand how the rating could differentiate so drastically in such a short distance..
