secondlina: (Artist block)

CAN'T. DRAW. EFFING. HANDS.

Well, there you go. I'm suffering a (writer's?) block. Actually, it's more of an artist's block. In french we call it "the white page syndrome" and honestly nothing is more frightening then a white page when you have half a million things TO DRAW!

One of the down points of making your hobby your job (thru being an artist and doing contracts.)

So right now i'm trying to fight the block by watching a million movies and drawing silly manga images, like this one, of the characters of bleach.

I watched lately a bunch of disney animations, the Sex and the City movie, the indiana jones collection, the indiana jones NEW movie, Stranger then Fiction, The Mask, V for Vendetta and The bleach movie; memories of nobody.

So far, most of this stuff is pretty good. Lilo and Stich dazzled me with it's watercolor backdrops (one day I shall be so talented). The Sex and the city movie was pretty good. The potrayal of all the characters was pretty accurate, especially Samantha, that brillantly shone as herself at the end of the movie. Charlotte was impossibly cute, as always, Miranda took her legendary pride for another spin. Carrie was true to herself as well, throwing her own stubborness away... for a pair of shoes. Yes, indeed. It was good. And a good way of introducing people to sex and the city too.

The indiana jones movie threw nostalgia my way. It was okay for the most part. The ending was definitly odd and perhaps not the best way to go. But it reminds us all how Lucas and Spielberg are now obsessed with CG, aliens, cool technology and bad acting. I'll admit though, every time the characters whould utter "Henry Jones jr." I'd feel chocked up, looking for dear old daddy jones and his grail.

Stranger then fiction was awesome. It was definitly a victim of bad marketing; it's commercials made it look like a boring comedy/chick flick. It's actually really smart, and offers an interesting lesson on life, and a few interesting critiques about litterature. Loved it.

V for Vendetta is still one of my favorite movies. I love V. How can you not? And the main actresse is definitly better as Evey then as Padme.

Finally, the Bleach movie was kinda cool, though Senna's classic hyper japanese schoolgirl attitude (sigh) really got on my nerves. I'm warning you, this movie is filler glorified. But it's not bad filler. I felt bad for Inoue, Ishida and Chad who get like, two lines each. They got butted out of the flick by the damsel in destress, Senna. Ah, Ichigo. He's really popular with the girls. XD There was a few ichiruki moments in the movie too, for fans of the couple. I like the idea of the couple, but I kinda like them as is (aka mostly platonic super close friends with romantic hints). Most of the romantic hinting is caused by Inoue anyways... I still thing Rukia is cute. I like how she's less like your basic shounen girl (aka Inoue). She's stronger and more adrogenous, a bit like Ana from shaman king, who is also deeply cool.

Ok, time for bed I guess; tomorrow I have one of my gallery openings. It's in Vankleek hill, which is why I didn't really tell people; it's awfully far to get to. If you wish to visit one of my exhibits, i'll have one in ottawa and one in montréal soon. The one in Ottawa will contain all new works. The expos in Vankleek and in montréal show mostly the stuff I had in the Graduate show, with three new fairy tale works.

Man, I hope this white page syndrome goes away soon.

Oh, I still don't have a job either. But i'm starting to look very hard. Most people say they won't hire for other then student jobs, at least not until september.... Gah. Need job, please.

*squeeeeee*

OK, this entry made my day. I love IchiRuki like woah and to see TWO cute drawings made me smile inside. I have the one you made me on my closet where I can see it... :DDD

Ottawa is awful far for me to see one of your exhibits.... I wanna though...

I find ichiruki cute, but I can't bring myself to draw them kissing. I kinda like their relationship as is. It's a bit like the relationship of booth and bones on Bones (if you know that series). Partners and friends before lovers, with some cute hints. One way or another, it's shonen, so it might stay that way forever. That or Inoue will take over, even though she seems to refuse to do so.

Yes, I'm very familiar with Bones. It's a favorite of mine. And I also like the dynamics of the relationship between Booth and Bones on there too.

Me, I'd be perfectly happy with hints and cute moments up until the end of the series. I think that's the way it should be with long running series like this. Don't resolve anything until the end.

SO CUTE!

I didn't know you were an IchiRuki fan!

Who isn't? XD

Rukia's a cool character. I kinda miss the interactions from the beginning of the series. Nowadays, it's more fighing strong espada storylines.

And to be honest, it seems the series is leaning towards IchiHime. =/ Not that I don't appreciate that pairing, either.

Rukia was my favorite until Soi Fong came into existence...*~*

Bleh. I know how you feel regarding the "white page syndrome." It's true for writers as well. It doesn't help that your creative energies get sucked away by other things.

The drawing of Ichigo and Rukia is gorgeous. I guess I'm having a hard time seeing Rukia as kick-ass again after how utterly useless she was during the Soul Society arc.

Good luck with your gallery opening! Take pictures!

Rukia gains back her kick-ass-ness when she kicks Ichigo out of a "my-hollow-is-slowly-taking-over-why-is-this-happening-despair-woe-emo-can't-protect-my-friends" slump. She even gets a good entrance. I admit the soul society arc made her a little wussy, but among captains and without powers, who would not be?

Hands were the one part of the human body that I can draw well, probably because you always have two sitting in front of you where they're easy to see. (I even had kids in an art class vote my hand drawing out for being "too realistic"...then they voted on a guy's drawing who had no artistic ability at all. Ugh, maybe I should have gone into art after all.) In any case, when in doubt, stare forever and a day at your own hands until you can make sense of what you're trying to draw.

White pages, blank slates, whatever you want to call them, they vex artists all over. Might be time to break out some lined paper. For whatever reason, I've always had an easier time drawing on that than the sketchbook pages. I think the blank white pages are secretly terrifying how they taunt me with their whiteness. :P

If you haven't already watched it, another great Disney movie in regard to the animation is 101 Dalmations, especially how the people are animated. Everything was totally stylized, and yet the people were still easily read as people, and the animation just impressed me. (Just try not to think of the technological advance of using Xerox laid a lot of women off who worked there.) I need to have another marathon soon, but I did at least watch Lilo and Stitch recently. They really did do a good job with the watercolor backgrounds (something the studio feared not being able to do since one mistake means starting all over with..a blank sheet of paper!), but how sad that animation halted so soon after that movie. Man, I hope we get something new to look at, soon.

In any case, much luck overcoming the dreaded blank pages of doom. I've not gotten back into drawing for that very same reason, and I hate it. -_-

I find hands are hard to draw, specifically because they are always in front of me. I know what a GOOD hand looks like, so when I draw a bad one, it's super obvious. XD

I haven't seen 101 dalmatians in a while, but I can't find it anywhere. The oldest video store we had burned down, and the newer ones don't have older disney movies (nooooo). At least they re-released the three caballeros! I can rent it!

They just released 101 Dalmatians to DVD last year, but I don't know about VHS. (Would that I could just say, "Here, borrow something from my massive collection of Disney DVDs", because I'm working on getting....well, most of them. I don't have movies like Alice in Wonderland because it traumatized me as a child, and I've never wanted to go back to that.)

I saw The Three Caballeros the other week, but I hadn't decided whether to spend the money on it or not. I really should... I've been reading through the book on Walt Disney's 'Nine Old Men', and that movie's been mentioned more than a few times now. Besides, Donald Duck is just an awesome character. ^_-

I pretty have all of the Disney movies on VHS (except for like 4 I think), including I think the first time Lady and The Tramp was put on VHS. Mind you, that one and my 101 Dalmations tape were getting old that I had to get the DVD ones.

I really liked Stranger Than Fiction, but then again, I'm also an English major/writer. I think that was one of those movies that was hard to market, because the market would be very critical of it. I wasn't the typical WIll Ferrel movie and that was what made it so good. (Like Spanglish) But I am going to stop rambling and get ready for my flight now.

I like that drawing! I always thought Rukia/Ichigo would be a cute couple. But I agree, hands are tricky. Lately, I've been having writer's block too for writing. Hopefull, we can all get over it soon.

Lilo and Stitch is one of my top favorite Disney movies. Hopefully, that "Frog Princess" movie Disney is working one will help bring back 2D animation. I miss that.

101 Dalmations is great for watching animation style. Another good one to rewatch is probably The Sword in the Stone (they're going to be re-releasing that one this month apprantly). Merlin is always fun to watch.

Never seen Bleach so I know nothing about the drawing, but it still looks awesome~ XD We're planning a Quebec trip in August, so if we pass through Montreal, maybe I'll get to see your works!

That's a problem with inspiration. It takes vacation all the time! I think mine wants to retire already.
