And well you should be proud of your French. One should always be proud of one's ethnic origins and language, but not distain learning other languages or put down other cultures. In the States it's so rare for people to be facile in more than their native language, unless they are an immigrant, like my father. I've tried to learn French, German, Russian, Bulgarian, and Arabic, but I've forgotten almost everything with disuse, although reading French isn't as difficult as the other languages. (My high school French teacher was my favorite teacher. In addition to French, she taught us to think for ourselves.)
