Geeks worldwide rejoice as they learn in canadian newspapers that peter jackson will not have a word into the cinematographic adaptation of "The hobbit"
I get why people would be happy. I can't say i'm that impressed with some parts of the Lord of the Rings (Gimbli...why are you stupid now?). But still...It's unfair to critisize the guy so much. He tried. And the movie, despite how some hard core geeks point out missing chapters, is still amazing. It is a 3d animation, epic battle, marvel fest.

Yes, chapters are missing. Yeah, legolas is orlando bloom. Yes, gimbli is an idiot. But I wish people would remember that this is an adaptation, and doing a decent adaptation that you can comprehend of the books is still one heck of a good thing. I mean...anyone remember the old, unfinished animated adaptation? Breathtaking, but completly impossible to understand.

LOtR was a huge thing to do. The guy tried. And he still made something of quality. Give him a break.

It seems this week people are dancing on character's graves, and critisizing artists galore. I wish those hardcore fans would tune it down a bit. Yes, hatred and bitching is part of being a fan...But remember, without those artists and characters you all so fondly lash out on...there would be no story to fanatize about.

That is all.

ps. to all Secondworld players: I'm currently (slowly for I have homework) working on a more detailled explanation of the world, doing a cultural analysis of the surrounding countries. I should post it up in Secondworld_fan by the end of this week or next week. I'll at least try to post half of it soon enough.

I agree with you completely here. I love Peter Jackson's LOTR - it's what got me into that series to begin with. He did a really good job with them and I hate that he won't be involved in The Hobbit.

I like Lina's new clothes for this. ^_^

Besides, if he'd filmed every. single. detail, we'd have been in the theater for six hours! That's a long time to go without a bathroom break.

As it was, when I went to see The Two Towers the first time, it had to have an intermission...

Personally, I don't think there's anything as a perfect movie adaptation to a book, but it still can be a good movie. There's always going to be things you're not happy with but there's no reason why that you can't like both. For example, I love Miyazaki's verison of Howl's Movie Castle, but there are things I wish he could have kept from the book, like how Sophie's argues with Howl a lot more in the book, of the fact that Howl is actually from Wales but I still love watching the movie.

As for secondworld, if it's any help to you I'm going with the beast people idea for Toby, just in case you needed to know that. I'm planning on working on his profile this week, so let me know if you want me to e-mail it to you.

I'm no fan of movies that are 'loosely based' on a book, but yes, I do understand that movies cannot show everything that happens in a book. (Even The Princess Bride -what I consider to be the closest adaptation from book to film- had to cut out the Zoo of Death and simplify it into the Pit of Despair.)

If I ever do get into the movie-making business, I hope I can at least try to do books more justice. Just don't string me up if I also fail... XP

(I hate Orlando Bloom fans. They only liked Legolas because it was Orlando Bloom...and because he was blond. Argh! ...he makes a better pirate anyway.)

*looks at HP movies*

*looks at LOTR movies*

As a fan of both, I think LOTR fans should thank God they didn't get stiffed in the same way that HP fans did. At least I can feel the same spirit of the books in the movies. Hell, at least Peter Jackson had READ the books!

heehee...I like that you can vent your frustration in drawn form.

It's doubtful that I will see The Hobbit, but I think Jackson did an excellenet job with the movies. For someone who'd never heard of the books, it did a lot to get me to start reading them!

People will always complain about something though.

Hey, uhhhhh... I hope this doesn't come across as totally stalker-ish but I came across your art in a Slayers community awhile back and really liked it... and recently came across your journal again and totally had a nostalgia trip. Would you mind terribly if I friended you here on LJ? XD You've got such a fiesty, unique style and... yeah! :O

pee ess - totally agree with you about the Jackson comment as well. I was actually really peeved to learn he wouldn't be directing it. :( I loved the movies - they were really special.

Nowadays, whenever something happens I go "I should make this into a comic." Actually, nowadays I just go "I-" and people add "Comic. We know." XD

I was a reader of the books, and saw really nothing wrong with the movie. I have no idea why people were freaking out.

Yes. Lina changes clothing in my drawings once in a while. She was still herself for halloween, so I gave her a new suit today XD

The thing with tolkien is that he explains EVERYTHING is excrutiating detail, therefore anal fans expect them to be in there.

Clearly, those fans never made a movie. I was in cinema back in college and did a few student films (That I shall NEVER post here XD) so I know how hard it is to adapt something, especially with little budget.

Hopefully the hobbit won't suck.

Howl is the perfect example of a adaptation. Yes, both are different, and yet I love love LOVE both. Although I agree I miss Sophie and Howl's quarrels when I watch the anime, I must admit bird howl and cute calcifer are pure isa fangirl love.

I miss the whole whales stuff myself. Although, I like how the war was included much more in the movie. I also miss Martha. T_T

I,d appreciate you sending me toby's profile ^^

The princess bride was a book? I never knew! Although I only started liking the movie as of late (it was one of my mother's favorites therefore I hated it just out of spite.)

Orlando bloom does make a better pirate. I feel sorry for him in POTC 2. Stupid elizabeth.

If anything, the movies made me a fan of "The Two Towers." When I read those, I read the first half of TTT, got to Sam, Frodo and Gollum scampering merrily across the countryside in excrutiating detail...and skipped to book three. :D

People will always complain. Heck, I also complain. But the way I do is usually thus: I bitch, bicker and whine WHILE i'm actually doing something about it. When i'm done, people then say "there, that wasn't so bad" and I huff. Fans like that...They just whine. Period. They sit there and whine.

Urgh.

And yay for comics of venting XD It's like a stand up comedian, but flat.

I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive the third movie. The fourth, I agree, kept with the books the best, or at least tried to. There's only so much you can do.

Oh! Of coarse, of coarse! :D Ahmmm... Well, I'm currently majoring in 2D Animation in Vancouver, Canada though I'm originally from Boston (and pee ess, my name's Kerrin :D nice to meet you!). I've been ghostwriting for cartoons (premises, really) for about a year and a half now. The pay is rather helter-skelter but hey, whatever helps - right?? I also do freelance art and webdesign, mostly for local bands, etc... (http://www.side7.com/art/sugarplum - is my portfolio site :O). Aside from art I really enjoy history and gardening - I also love, love music. I can really listen to anything :D I especially enjoy Modest Mouse, T.Rex, and Kate Bush (all time favs that can never do wrong in my eyes XD).

As for Slayers-fandom wise, umm... I'm not really a big "participant" in the community, I guess. :O I got into Slayers when I was around 13 after my friend Ruby's dad got the series in his store. We borrowed it for the evening and, yeah XD Hooked ever since. I don't really know too many people who are also into the series since I tend to stick to my own friends and not branch much... but I guess if you've ever seen my friend Steph's (http://bgeezus.deviantart.com) or my friend Lily's (http://fiedael.livejournal.com) things you'd find mine XD

My favorite character would have to be Martina but I truely love all the characters. Pairing wise, uhhh... obviously aside from canon I'd have to say my favorite pairing is Filia/Zel :O Because... well, a various amount of reasons! >D I'll refrain from clogging your journal here with all that.

Annnnd, yeah! :O Sorry for ranting here XD;;; but I tried to be as concise as possible!! Thanks so much for the considerating and the warm welcome! Your super sweet :D Take care!!!

Unfortunately, no. :( It came from this absolutely wonderful community called [livejournal.com profile] potterpuffs. I highly suggest checking it out! I've made quite a few of my own icons, but they're mostly Slayers-related.

I took a peek at your artwork. I like your style a lot!

Boston heh? I have an aunt in boston.

I'm a french quebecer studying at Ottawa University in arts and administration of the arts (basicly doing two bachelors, which is downright insane. I realised that this year.) So yeah. I'm a frog, so excuse the occationnaly horrific english.

I'm glad to hear you're an animator! I'd personnaly like to become a comic book artist. I don't know if you looked around the website a bit, but my boyfriend Link, who posts once in a while, is a 3d animator. I like to draw manga but I also have a realistic style, a european style and a superhero type of drawing. I also shamelessly copy disney once in a while.

Contrairy to all apparences, i'm not a super-fan of slayers. Well, actually I am. But differently. XD All I know of the series is the anime and some of the manga. I just really love to use the characters in my fandom, because they are very fun and easy to use and draw ^^ My favorites are Lina and Zelgadiss (Yes, i'm so original.) I admit I have a weakness for Filia as well.

You probably noticed, Secondlina's panels is a bunch of comics about my life. Most of them are based off actual events (only 25% of insanity added) Some I make up randomly as a special story once in a while. (They stick up a bit. You can tell which is which XD) Some of the characters here are real people (myself, Link, Diane, Tama, Megan, etc) others are fun little characters who's input on my life I like having. They represent the little voices in my head. Sometimes conflicted, often wrong, always loud and incredibly insane. Having imaginary characters also allow me to critisize my own work.

Kerrin is an interesting name. My Name is Isabelle. But everybody calls me Isa or Za. ^^

Ah yes! What a small world. :D I'm from Brighton/South Boston myself... where abouts does your Aunt live?

If you don't mind me asking, but what school is your BF attending (I'll have to start digging through your pack posts so I can see some of his stuff! :D)? I am currently at VanArts :D And that's super cool your also majoring in the arts :D I had hopes of majoring in Art History and Illustration but the tuition at Emily Carr is absolutely insane, even with scholarships :P And just for one year too! I can't imagine attending for fours years and racking up such a bill.... D: At least not until I have a regular job, at least!

And I can so see the different styles in your art, too! So much potential - you seem like the type to easily adapt :D Thats so sweet! Your one talented chica, mmhm!

And yeah, I get what you mean :D Your comics are really clever, even despite english not being your first language! I speak an alright dose of spanish but your english skills so surprass my spanish! It's so difficult trying to really be open and descriptive while using a language that isn't your natural one... so I am super impressed by how well you do!! Thats so cool :D!

The characters in Slayers are so human and relatable that I see why you'd enjoy branching them out so :D They're very personal and very realistic and that's what makes them so timeless! Every character is unique and seperate from the next. You don't tend to see that in too many things and that's part of the reason why I have remained a fan of the show.

:D And you have a wicked cute name, too! Very elegant and royal!! :D Cheers!!

XD Do not even get me going. LOL It's soooo my guilty-pleasure couple. I love Zel with Amelia too but more so with an older Amelia because she's yet to acquire that "maternal" side by the end of Try, I think :O And that's really what seperates her from Filia. Both can be hyper, prideful characters - and I looooove the quirkyness of them both... but that maternal bit I think is what truely makes the difference :O But that's just me!! And it's sooooo always up for interpretation because different people are going to see characters in different lights... But again, thats just me XD

I have a friend who is a huge Lina/Xel fan, and I am a huge Lina/Gourry fan. She wanted Gourry to be paired up with Sylphiel in her stories and I've never liked Sylphiel/Gourry at all. Then, I started making a case for older Amelia/Gourry and it actually worked. So, I can definitely see having a guilty pleasure couple! I'm a hardcore Lina/Gourry fan and I write Amelia/Zel, but my guilty ship is probably Amelia/Gourry if he had to be with someone other than Lina.
