Day off

Today is a national holiday in Canada. So, i,m gonna stay home, do some laundry and draw. I'm going to draw a lot. Because that's honestly what I like to do on my days off. Stay in my kimono-ish bathrobe and draw. Well, I might actually put on jeans, since laundry is outside the apartment. Unless I can convince the boyfriend to do my bidding. Hum. And maybe i'll fix up my bike too. As many of you know, biking is something I adore. I could seriously bike all day, every day. It's right up there in my favorite things with eating, sleeping and drawing.

Kung Fu Panda 2 comes out next week! I'm seriously stocked to see it. I loved the first. so there. The new "Pirates" movie is out. I kinda want to see it too, but I think I might just wait for the DVD release. I like Jack, but I'm not too sure about the quality of this sequel. It sounds like a lot of awesome scenes strung together with poor plot. Then again, it has mermaids, so it might just get me to go see it in theaters just for that. *laughs*

This was a pretty good, relaxing weekend. I felt sick for most of Saturday morning. But I got better. Friends visited to celebrate my upcoming birthday, which was nice. I also managed to score some new comics. Woo. One day, I think I might actually classify my collection with the Dewey system or something. It's so large. *laughs*

Not much to talk about, I gotta say. Basically conclude from this that I have done little work this whole weekend and mostly just relaxed like a cat spread in the sunlight of a window. Yeah.

I did finish these namesake drawings. They are for convention flyers. I wanted one to be kinda funny and the other, Dramatic. So one is two girls in a pile of books, and the other is Emma having tea with "past incarnations" of Alice, Wendy, Ozma and Dorothy. And the ghost. Hey, we'll get to see plenty of the ghost in the next cuple of pages. I can't wait. I love drawing her.

Well, that's it.

Who said the new Pirates movie had poor plot? I think people just like to whine. When the last few strung plots throughout the movies, they were deemed too complicated. So now that they keep everything contained within the movie, it has no plot? You would be foolish to heed what they say and not see the movie in the theatre. Even if you only go to see the mermaids (which you totally need to! They are amazing in all of their frightening glory), I think you'll be very surprised by the movie.

I know I'm glad I saw it on the big screen. That alone allowed me to catch attention to detail that won't be so easy to see once it's on my t.v. screen.

I said the new Pirates movie had a poor plot. I also think it was a very uninspired and uninspiring movie. And I don't just "like to whine." I just like movies.

(I'm sorry if I sounded aggressive, I didn't mean to, but the internet doesn't allow for a sheepish tone :( I wrote a whole review on my LJ in case you feel like discussing my perspective or something, that way we don't invade Lina's comment section :P)

Also, who said the last two were complicated? They were just about pirates... doing stuff... and going places...

Interesting, as this one was based on an existing novel and everything. (Not that I ever heard of it before, but still, has to count for...something?)

I was thinking more on movie reviewers in general. They always seem to put down every movie I like, while praising movies I despise. I liked the original trilogy of PotC a lot, even if the third was still a bit confusing to me. (I really just need to have a marathon soon.) I don't know what people expect from these movies, to be honest. I go in expecting to be entertained and enjoy myself, as is the norm when seeing a Disney movie, and I've yet to be disappointed.

(And I don't think the previous movies were complicated at all, but I run into reviews where they say that.)

Yes! And they also based the Monkey Island games on that novel! I was like "... but... BUT THEN WHY!?"

LOL, I actually don't read all that many reviews, but I look at rates and percentages on rottentomatoes.com when I'm not too sure...
I liked the original thrilogy too, even if the third one was a little bit too much (maybe if they'd cut-down a bit on the action and special effects...).
I wasn't expecting art from this. For that, I watch art movies. But I expected to be entertained, and I was just... bored.

(Sorry for the super late response, I had to dash to work, and then of course we got out late!)

Actually, it's interesting you bring up Monkey Island. Seems there was talk of making the series into a movie (or movies?), but it fell through. But it didn't go to waste, as the main writer went on to write the PotC movies. And if that wasn't enough, fans have noticed the similarities between the two franchises. I saw this video the other day:

I usually look at reviews just to see what others are saying, not to sway me one way or another. Usually if I'm curious about a movie, I'll just go and see it (or wait for it to be on t.v. later). Again, it seems like reviewers always hate the movies I love, and love the movies I hate. It just makes me wonder what they want from a movie. So far, it seems the more violence, gore, and language in a movie, the better...

(I do think the third suffered a bit too much from EPIC SCENES OF EPICNESS THAT GO ON FOR TOO LONG. Honestly, I'm still not entirely sure what was supposed to be happening.)

Huh, well, to each his/her own. The group I went with all seemed entertained, even the friend who told me he would fall asleep during the movie. (He works early mornings, we saw a late screening.) I am interested to hear different reactions to the movie though, so you're more than welcome not to agree with me on the movie.

GOD!
I want to play Monkey Island SO BAD now...

...
What reviewers are you reading!? :\

I really want to play the original games as well! I never got to, aside from playing the very beginning of the first game at a video game exhibit. I got to play the new "Tales from Monkey Island" games at least, and they were excellent! I miss point-and-click adventure games...

I read reviews from American newspapers, and sometimes UK reviews as well. I ought to stop. What they want and what I want are not the same thing. XP

I had the first one, but I was never able to finish it, because I was a child and I was bad with language, so the part with the appropriate retorts always meant my defeat D:

I just believe what Roger Ebert says... I mean, I don't read him often, but he kind of knows what he's talking about, so...
Like I said, I don't really read reviews.

To me, the second movie was the best of the movies. I thought the third movie went on a bit too long, and I was disappointed in who the ultimate "baddie" turned out to be, considering she was so cool in the second movie.

Yeah, the baddie was a bit of an ass-pull.

CALYPSOOOO

I remember the second one being my favourite too. I liked it better than the first one, but I should probably just re-watch them and see what I think about them now...

I visited your LJ last night and read your entire review before bed. Yeah, I think I'll go spend my $15 on a book instead of that movie. You also nailed what I felt was wrong with Alice in Wonderland as well. My friends were all, "The movie was awesome!" and I was, "Uh ... It looked pretty?"

LOL OMG thanks for taking the time :P

I'm glad I was able to save anyone from spending that amount of money on something that... it's really NOT worth it.
I mean, if you can go for free and still want to, or it's a way to spend time with a friend you haven't seen in a while, then I guess you could. But I would still consider it a bit of a waste of time, and a big waste of money :\

I'm pretty okay with waiting for the DVD because I have a fairly large television, and action movies in theaters seem to make me feel ill. But I want to see this movie. Just not sure when!
