I'm just thankful the internet does exist. I can remember back to a time when it did not, and the only friends one had were those who did live nearby. Growing up in a military area as I did, I made many friends, only to lose them once their parents' two year time was up. Having people faraway without any way of keeping in contact is far worse than being far away.
That said, trains, planes and automobiles are wonderful inventions, thought I wish I could just borrow Thorvir from Relina and visit places that way. ;)
