 Okay. MEGAMIND REVIEW!

The non spoilery part :

Well, I loved it. I feel this movie exists in the same unvierse as The Incredibles, Dr. Horrible and Despicable me. It's not the best movie of the yeah, but it has a nice mix of humor. It's a storyline similar to the Incredibles (in the sense that it subverts then confirms and plays with various superhero tropes) but with a bit more goofyness. The goofyness mostly comes from Megamind himself who is flamboyant and fun and has what I think is the BEST ANIMATED SMILE EVER. His smile is adorable and hilarious and wonderfully natural. Plus I have a thing for goody-two-shoe villains, i'm quite happy. So yeah. Good movie. I don't think it tops How to Train your Dragon, but it's still in the same vein. Most of the humor is based on wacky body movement and language and witty dialog. So I had fun.

Also, good god, so much leather.

The movie had an interesting storyline, but it wasn't unpredictable. Like Megamind himself, it's good old predictable villainery. However, the different twists and turn to get to the classical points in the movie that are interesting. It's kinda like the movie is a weird baseball game. They hit all the usual bases, but they do wacky and intricate backflips instead of running to one or another in a straight line. The way the story is told is really interesting too. Basically, you kinda expect where the movie is going, but the ride to get there is the original part. And I find that often makes the best stories. Familiar yet twisty.

My favorite part is how they decided to open with the ending. Very interesting storytelling choice.

And now for mild spoilers and spoiler-ish art :

My favorite things about the movie... First, Megamind falling in love and being loved back. It was so adorable it killed me. I liked how he was not really evil, but more like he was trying to find his place and express his creativity. Minion is awesome. I was amused by Megamind's "gay" side. Or rather, i'm going to go with flamboyant. I fully expect a lot of slash to exist for this character until the other characters showed up. His relation with Roxie is very cuddly and genuine. And Metro Man treats him oddly enough, like the black sheep little brother.

I though Metro Man was an ass for never coming back to rescue them. But he also wanted them to learn to fend for themselves. I still think he was probably around in his trench coat, just in case.

I found the items were wonderfully used in the movie. The "disguise" watches and the dehydration gun are used often enough for it to not be used out of nowhere in the end. And yet, during the movie, the whole use of them (and the invisible car) flows really nicely. The gadgets don't feel overused. They feel like Megamind's trademark gadgets. So they constant use in every day situations is amusing and natural.

I loved the evolution of Megamind's character, and how both him and Metro Man eventually realize and come to term with the fact that they are just puppets acting out for each other. Megamind becomes a true hero when he beats true evil, and then uses all his science to clean streets, fix buildings, make life in general better. The hero part comes from just being there for people and being yourself, not from performing wacky heroics.

Skeletons wearing capes are a bizarre imagery.

Oh. Stay after the animated credits. Little spoof visible there.

And I must say : teen Megamind is the cutest thing ever. End of story.

And the music is by Hans Zimmer, so officially chock full of epic.

ALSO "BAD TO THE BONE" PLAYS. This had me rolling in my seat, laughing.

This is a great review! You are awesome. <33333

I was intrigued by how it seemed to play around with super hero tropes in the trailer. And even if the plot is predictable, I really wanted to see it for the characters and the playing around with tropes. Like you, I enjoy the familiar yet twisty. It seems like the characters and story was done pretty awesomely, so I'm still feeling really excited about seeing it. Thanks so much for the review <333

This movie is a lot like HTTYD in the "we hit all the required tropes but you'll never guess HOW." So it's predictable to an extent, and the originally lies in how the content is mixed together and flows. The characters also make up a lot of what's great about the movie.

DUDE. If YOU don't love this movie, I will honestly be surprised. It's got everything you want and adore in life short of fetishistic behavior, but considering Megamind is crazy about spikes and leather and Roxie is kick-ass, i'm sure you'll find something in that department too.

I think Megamind works the same way, How To Train Your Dragon Works. The story maybe be cliche but it's the characters and what they do with them that draws you in. Granted, Megamind doesn't beat HTTYD, but it's still awesome! Just proves that characters are just important as the story itself.

(With that said, am I the only person wondering what Roxanne and Megamind's kids would look like? I'm thinking blue skin children. XD)

I enjoyed the movie as well. Not my fave movie of the year, but a good one to go see. I did not stay for the credits, but I'm hearing that it solved that one hanging thread, and probably other stuff.

I think the only weakness is how they were pretty much hitting the expected story points, so it was predictable. That said, it was getting to the points where the fun was. And I did think Mega's developing relationship with Roxanne was well done and sweet. Her reaction at dinner was understandable, and the reconciliation largely done well. And, yeah, I was so ready to completely hate Metro Man, but he turned out okay at the end.

I know exactly what you mean. The trailers/commercials made him look like such a huge, selfish jerk, but...well, yeah, you could argue that he was being a bit selfish, but he had a decent reason--he was just unhappy with his life at that point. (I kinda noticed something in his face at "What would my life be without you?" Wanted to give him a little hug right there, he seemed kinda depressed already. :( )

Yay for DreamWorks not deciding to make an all-out jerk out of him.

He seemed really depressed. You can't blame him. Plus, you can see that he didn't really want to fight Megamind. He treated him more like his kid brother. He didn't feel like he was on a mission, he felt like a babysitter. He wanted Megamind to evolve like he was.

Oh, man, the whole dinner fight was done really well. And when the garbage appeared in the street, just to add to the lie? Man. I felt sorry for both of them.

This is a great review and such a cute fanart! I admit, I kinda only went into this movie, because I thought Megamind was hot, LOL. (But it turned out to be pretty decent and funny.)

Also, Donkey Kong.

I missed the credits though, because Dad decided to get up too early to leave. :\

.....yeah I think he's sorta hot too. Or rather, he's completely adorkable. I love it. Especially the smiles and the speech patterns.

Oh, man, they gave minion a monkey suit just for that gag.

I got to see it! *jumps up and down!* You were SO right! *is smiling from ear to ear!* =D I did like the fact that they didn't draw out the disguise bit until the last ten minutes of the movie like some have done in similar situations. Megamind and Roxie are totally adorable! And Minion is too fun! XD I will have to draw some Megamind pics soon! Jason just drew a couple for me to tide me over ;)

Hehehe did I tell you that I was a scratch voice actress in this movie? Apparently I made it within one cut of the final film, but Dreamworks didn't want to pay me so they replaced my stuff with something called a loop group (re: royalty-free background voice actors). Bummer really, according to my friend who audited the film I nearly had 27 credits in it as various screaming women! LOL

BTW, I'm so happy you liked it!
