I set aside Namesake a bit for an evening to work on a few pending things (apologies to all those involved). The first of these being this Slayers group picture! I really like how it turned out!

I also tried to draw some ladies in corsets but failed. I really can't draw sexy things. Even when I try it winds up as "cute". [livejournal.com profile] torreadora  and [livejournal.com profile] skybison  are awesome at drawing sexy things. Did you guys find a tutorial on the sexy? Or are you just blessed with the power of sex appeal? I seem to have gotten the power to draw really cohesive groups. Is it better then the power of sexy? I do not know. It probably sells less. *laughs*

Awesome thing of the day : MODCLOTH. It's a neat little website where you can buy vintage clothing. I found that a while ago after ranting that I longed for stuff styled in the 50's. It's actually not that expensive (50$ per dress is the average, which is decent considering the crap you can get for 50$ in other clothing stores) and all the dresses and shirts have a really nice retro feel. I just got myself two dresses, you know, as a pat on the back for doing a good job at work. Good, Isa, good.

Watching Pocahontas and the Lion King while drawing. Anybody else finds Pocahontas has a bit of a childish dialogue in the first part of the film? It feels like it's been written for a younger character. Weird.

At least being stuck on the telephone wasn't all bad. ^_-

I'd not say the dialogue in Pocahontas is childish more than it's simple. Then again, are you watching it in French or English? And are we talking English settlers setting out onto the ocean, or Native Americans? ...too many questions... (As for Pocahontas herself, she's supposed to be somewhat childish when we first see her. Nakoma even says, "Aren't we a little old for these games?" Childish = free spirit, apparently.)

And stuff! More at a later date.

Oh wait, I lied. I think some people just have a gift for "sexy", some have it, some strive for it. Again it makes me think of Walt Disney's 'Nine Old Men'. One was renowned for his naked ladies he would sketch. The other animators even requested drawings! Not everyone can do it. Maybe it takes a trained eye or something. I've never tried, so I have no idea.

I hugely envy your style, so it totally rolls me that you like anything I do that much. :D And who says sexy and cute are mutually exclusive? The one is often better with the other involved.

And hell, I have trouble drawing more than one person on the same page. :D Having a way with groups is a major skill.

Your Slayers fanart always rocks. I don't think I've ever seen you draw Zangulus before. I love how you made him look all rugged instead of just drawing him to look like a Hispanic version of Gourry. It's an interesting twist on his look.

That Modcloth site is amazing! I never buy clothes online because I'm a little oddly shaped (skinny waist & huge hips) and I'm afraid to spend money on something before I try it on. But this site is tempting me.

I think Pocahontas' dialog feels out of place because she behaves like a lovesick teenager but is stacked like a 30-something Playboy Bunny. XD

I'm not that familiar with Slayers, but I love this drawing! It turned out really well. It's always fun to finish a big group shot -- are you going to colour it?

Yay Slayers! It turned out great!

For Pocahontas - I didn't notice that, but now that you say it, I almost want to watch it again to see. That would be ironic if it was written for a younger character and they forgot to age it up when they aged up the character.

I love Slayers! This is a great drawing. It's great to see art of the cast from all seasons.

That is an awesome group drawing, I'm impressed you were able to get everyone in there. Martina came out really well too.

Hmm, it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe they originally were planning on a younger Pocahontas but then thought she needed to be older in order to include the love story with John. I would need to rewatch it, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Hahahah! I'm so amused by what your saying. You are one of the Deviant artist I adored so when you actually replied to my messages I was completely amazed you deemed me worthy! *laughs* So hearing that you envy my style is like... the most awesome thing ever! And the most awesome thing is carrying cookies! Yay!

Cute and sexy can be together... I did ask my boyfriend about it and he said I drew my characters too "androgynous", not body-wise, but pose-wise, and that sexy was all about flaunting the characteristics of a specific gender. Curves for girls, stability for males, etc. Would you say that's true? I wonder. Maybe I concentrate too much on the flow of the movement and not enough on the body langage.

I did still find the character a little too childish. Because her body looks so...developed.

Nakoma is awesome. :D

Which of the "old men" was that?

"Hi, i'm pocahontas!" *VAVAVOOM*

Dude. Modcloth is so amazzziiiinnng. Check the dresses, they usually give you the specific measurements if you click on the "measurement" tab in the product description page. So you don't have to worry about it not fitting you!

And now I have doomed you.

I really like my version of Zangulus. I always saw him as more rugged then gourry (gourry was more the clean cut hero). I just find anime doesn't always show that well.

Slayers is a popular humor/fantasy japanese anime I enjoy that first came out in 1997 and had a revival in 2009. Novels have been coming out steadily in Japan for the past 20 years. It defined the genre quite a lot. Many of my friends and me love it.

Of course, in this case, I didn't draw them using the anime style. I wanted to give them my own style.

And yep, the coloring is imminent!

Thanks!

I haven't watched pocahontas in years, and I was a bit baffled by the simplicity of the dialogue.

Developed bodies don't indicate age. When I was 12, my days of running around as a kid were over. XO

I'm not sure if you can find examples of his art online, but Fred Moore was his name. If you ask very nicely, maybe I'll scan an example of his art later...

Edit: Since I've had this staring back at me for a couple of hours now, I just noticed what you did there with Amelia and Zelgadis. Sly! Very sly! I think I better understand now why Zelgadis isn't looking directly at anything right now. XD

No, I think your boyfriend's got a very good point, and that's very observant of him. Definitely, sexy is all in the presentation, in the attitude. Think about what you personally think is sexy, what characteristics and traits, and then sort of exaggerate them a little.

Also: holy shit, but you are in a serious class far, far above me when it comes to art. :D I could just go on, but let's agree it's a mutual adoration?

I am soooooo addicted to Modcloth. The saddest thing about working part time now is that I won't be able to afford their cute clothes. But I'll have to time to visit Goodwill now instead of having to order all my clothes online, so I'll be okay.
I bought myself my last Modcloth thing yesterday. Wingtips. Shiny wingtips.

Ooooooooh wingtips!!! I wish I could buy shoes online. I have weird feet so I never do. I hope they are super stylin' on you!

Pocahontas looks a LOT younger in some of the storyboards on the Pocahontas DVDs. But I'm not sure if that's because of the storyboard artist's individual style or because she really was written as a teenager character early on.

I also follow [livejournal.com profile] torreadora on deviantArt and I really like her style.

And I stumbled across ModCloth somewhere down the line and I do agree their stuff is muy adorable!

I think the deal with Pocahontas was that she WAS really young when she met the Europeans, but that tends to be....frowned upon now, so they had to make her look way older but then didn't treat the character dialogue as if she was older

I hope this doesn't sound weird, but I LOVE what you did with Syphiel's posture! She looks so dainty!
And whoo! for ModCloth! I'm in love with retro fashion, so being able to get NEW vintage-inspired clothes is the best! But sadly I'd never be able to buy anything out of clearance with my babysitter salary, haha.

But thrift store shopping is always fun~
