Well you already know I'm going to see it tomorrow afternoon... :)
My point of seeing it is to watch a (hopefully) entertaining movie. In regards to all the changes... simple. Shamalamalamala needs this thing to bring in the big bucks so he can complete his trilogy. To do that, he has to make it appealing to as broad a North American (or U.S., really) audience as he can.
As a long-time comic fan who has had ALL his heroes skewered on the big screen, I've long since given up hoping for authenticity and simply let all the different "medias" be different interpretations/ "universes". Makes it easier to not get caught up in stuff out of my control ;)
