I have a weird love/hate relationship with the franchise.

Mainly, I don't like. I never liked it. And I tried reading it to see what the hype was all about.

I can see WHY people might like this book. It's a love story with super-powerful fantasy guys and a heroin is basically the reader by proxy. And there is a few good jokes and some interesting secondary characters. But what threw me off the books was the poor writing, the even poorer french translation, the lack of spine and brains of the leading girl, the overbearing and useless self-provoked angst, and the ending. The ending is so weird, even actual fans acknowledge it's awful. This book also taught me it was possible to overuse the words "Dazzling" and "love".

But, this book is very present in my life lately. A lot of my friends are fans. I would say, about half my friends are fans.

So, i'm kinda inclined to see the better parts of the franchise out of respect for them.

However, Jennifer, if you ever try to drag me to see this movie again, I will stake you. with a half-wood, half-silver spoon.

Friends don't take friends to see Twilight unless there is a LOT of alcohol and snarking involved.

I read the first book, just to say I read it and therefore justifying in why I didn't like. I could barely get through it and had to speed read the last half of the book. (I swear, I lost count just how many times Edward was described as "gorgeous" and "godlike".)

I CAN see why people like this book, but there are just SO MANY better vampire stories out there than Twilight.

I only watch the movie if I have friends to make fun of it with me and LOTS Of sugar to help me through it. ^_~ (On that note, have you seen this: http://poopbear.deviantart.com/art/Down-for-the-Count-153668816)

Her choosing Economics would be the best ending for that series, ever! I read the first book and saw the first film and that was quite enough of that. Have you seen [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's journal? One of her (recent) specialities has become snarking on everything Twilight related, and it's hilarious.

I know a friend who read the first book and have the same reaction as you did to the writing. she told she didn't know how it still got published.

LOL! That comic describes that fandom perfectly! XD I'm in the same boat as you, me no likey Twilight Gah! To the writer's credit, she professed not being an actual writer and had only been writing down her dreams. Either way, I think a lot of people like it for the romance put yourself in the main character's shoes aspect. Not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal for a lot of folks.

I've read the whole series, but I just can't get around that type of relationship. I:

HAHA! This is great! I like how you accurately drew the glittering vamp looking like a douche.

The actor that plays him has a strange face that inspires drawings and fear in my heart.

I love that picture. I've never read any of the Twilight books or seen any of the movies, but from what I've heard, they sound pretty offensive. Yeah, anti-feminist screeds are JUST what we need in our society, right?

Tell me about, I got sucked in at first but then reread it and realized how horrible it was.
