Yesterday, I finished coloring the Namesake website banner. The banner shows all the "2009" cast of characters (characters from older years and scheduled to appear in flashbacks). From left to right : the heroin, Emma, her sister, Elain, Wendy in the orange and red garb, Alice looking smart, Jack, the Cheshire cat (as a smile) and last but not least; Warrick, the wicked warlock of the west. The tunnel in the background was meant to quote the rabbit hole Alice tumbles down and is also a slight reference to the "Tunnel to the other world" from "Coraline" (I adore that movie).

I really like this banner. It's bright, colorful, the characters are clearly seen. I should have given all the characters a "blue" hue (to match the light of the tunnel) but I found when I did that it made the characters blend in the background and made the whole thing very flat. Now they pop out.

I started drawing the first pages of the webcomic. There is a strange feeling that overcomes you when you start the first pages of a project. Pride, for one thing. Also, a really strange gut-fear. You're afraid nobody will read it, people might hate it, etc. Also, wonder. You breathe life into characters, but then they always seem to take control of the story at some point. I guess creating a story must feel a lot like raising a large family. It's stressful, fun, scary, wonderful at the same time and those darn kids never listen.

The webcomic project is still aimed to start in September 2010, but hopefully, it might start a bit before! So far, things are going well.

I'll post up the website URL when it's a bit more ready. Right now it's pretty much a banner, links and filler text thanks to my partner in crime! It requires more comic pages me thinks!

I'm visiting my family this weekend. My parents are going on a long trip to France soon. I'm happy for them! I wish I could go to France too. Go see some art!

The banner does look awesome--go bright colours!

Starting a new, big project is both exciting and scary, but I bet it'll really be worth it once things kick off. Good luck and have fun!
